Quote "If I am a AA team having to play against Major and plus teams three games in a round robin that doesn't mean anything I wouldn't like it. "

Makes me gald I am going to Boaz. Facing the big boys with so little arc . .

I thought Metro Stars was Major also? Next year Classics will be major or else!

Almost Old (JH Masters) didn't need the if game. They out paced us (Monster Softball) 28 to 23 I think the final score was. We were down 21 to 4 going into the bottom of hte 4th. All our pitchers (especially me) couldn't find the plate or the mat. When we did, they hit the ball. No problems with the balls on that field. Two out per team and several bounced off the fense.

Having 8 teams in the bracket was nice for a change. Playing new teams (Arkansas Team) makes the tournament quite refreshing.

Cheers to Faucetts for putting on a quality tournament.

salio2k, I am playing AAA 50's so for me, SPA is in September. I will be in Marietta this weekend with Monster Softball. Blue Knee brace on the left leg carying a broom stick in my right hand (;>)

Quality hitters deal with the situation (inconsistant umpiring, poor pitching, et al) Developing players (Pitchers as well as hitters) benefit from the use of the Mat. Using the mat allows me to pass on swinging at an Umpires marginal pitch with the count against me. It doesnt make me a better hitter, it helps me make better decisions.

Back in April we played in Birmingham in some tough wind. The wind may have taken about 5 runs a game from the score but the Mat is a stabalizing influence. Throw one pitch and the wind pushes it inside off the plate. Throw the same pitch and it lands just outside. An extra couple of inches would have been a welcome sight to the pitchers.

"The mats would help our leagues."

Our league as well. We have some consistant umpires that call balls 4 feet behind the plate strikes. Some of us smaller players do not look for strikes to hit either. Consisant calls do more for my average than the size of the strike zone. Then again, I can hit with a broom stick. I do not need a stinkin Ultra II
IMO it helps the batter more than the pitcher.
I do not see it hurting the pitcher at all. Yet hitters are far more agressive facing good pitching. The slightly expanded strike adds credibility to location pitchers that nibble on the corners. I see it as helping the hitters pull the trigger on good pitches.
