Discussion: Question for those who pitch

I don't remain in the box after I pitch, as well as the majority of pitchers that i have seen. The PPR rule does nothing to help me. If you are going to use this rule it should be any batted ball hit through the pitchers zone being the individual width and height of the pitcher and positioned directly behind the rubber. If I choose to position myself outside the width of the rubber to the sides I am fair game.
The other thing that I can think of that will help keep pitchers safer with out without screens, and I do use protective equipment, is not to make home runs outs. Use the one up rule to help teams that may not have as much power as the opposing team. I have seen a lot lower divisiono teams here in Nor Cal stay with upper division teams and beat them on occasions using this rule.

Discussion: REPLANT...... FOOD 4 THOUGHT???

Replant-It has happened after my team hit up the middle which the other team thought was intentional, when a member on my team made the comment "the middle is closed" by the way a comment I do not care for being a pitcher because the other team can take as a challenge. I let my team members know and ask them not to say that. It wasn't necessarily announed, I hear a lot of the comments or remarks from other teams being close to the dugout from the pitchers mound or while coaching bases. It has also happened in my local league where some players use it as bragging rights to say I couldn't catch there batted ball. I still get amazed of how we can lose sight of sportsmanship in the game we all love to participate in.

Mango-My name is Ray and I have been pitching on and off for over 30 years. The majority of players who hit middle I feel are doing it for a base hit, there are very few who do it intenionally to hit me, but I know this happens as I have heard them say they are going at me. I learned early when I started pitching to back up and get set to field my position, I also wear chin gaurds and just started wearing a cup. I have a face mask which I don't use because it restricts my visability a little. I have very little time to react to batted balls that any new restrictions like the mask or chest protection I feel would limit my fielding. The best thing I have found to limit balls up the middle other than pitch location is to field your position and make as many outs as possible when balls are hit to you.
