Discussion: Vegas Umpires

there are plenty of umps in Vegas that wanted to work but SSUSA feels that the out of town umps deserve more games to cover their expenses of traveling to Las Vegas.. There fore when they did get stuck for umpires the guys in Vegas don't wanna work cause they werw not ask to work from the get go.. I know what the attitude is here cause I live here..

Discussion: Rules question. Happened at Huntsman

Stick I had the same answer as Texas & Paul.. They did appeal the runner from 3rd and I told them I didn't see him cause I was lookn at RF to make sure he caught the ball.. which is my 1st priority.. I could see 1st & 2nd as I came out from behind plate towards 1st base & mound.. It was not a routine catch by any means..

you can appeal all the runners as long as its done properly..

Wayne I may have used the wrong word but I'm sure ya new what I meant..
As far as the situation you presented I as an ump may call a do over because I've gotta be aware of whats going on in my game..That in my opinion is a correctable mistake no matter who likes it or doesn't.. sometimes ya gotta have integrity as an ump..

Stick or any other ump "do you agree on this" ???

Stick< they was playing SPA rules and I don't know how they came to that conclusion but that was their decision.. Like I said earlier " I'm glad it didn't effect the outcome of the game"..I now know the correct way to call the play if it ever happens again.. I also agree with your hypothetical play.. Have a good one..

Stick, they ruled that it was a continuous play with no time out ever being called when ball was thrown back to 1st base.. score of game ended 12-9 instead of 14-9.. when I do games I have the players best interest in mind cause they are paying the money that pays me to make sure that they get a fair shake while playing.. I still play and that's all I ask of the umps doin my games.. It's not about me when I'm doin games.. I get my satisfaction when games over and the guys say "hey blue good game"..

Michigan Vet, I was the ump involved with that call..the ball was caught on a great catch at the fence and that's why runners took off and didn't tag up..that explains why the runner from 2nd scored but was never appealed.. Ball was thrown directly to 1st and I called runner out for third out.. In my 20 yrs of umping I've never had that call so that's why I asked for UIC and director for a ruling.. Wanted to make sure we got it right.. My ruling was that runs scored and their rules said no they didn't..thats the way it ended with the home team not scoring in the bottom of inning.. runs didn't effect outcome of the game.. believe me now I know how to make that call !!!

JRD, I pitch and have played in many games where sun is a problem.. whether on offense or defense its gonna be there.. I pitched in a game over in Hemet and I couldn't even see the ball once it left my hand.. I would let ball go and start running towards second base.. I'm not saying its right but but like SB4B said "sun is goin to be there on any field "... IT still wasn't a reason to start fighting over a silly softball game and then get suspended from playing a silly game that we love to play.. I've been involved with softball for 40 yrs. and have never heard of players getn in an argument and then a fight cause of the sun.. Call me what you want but I think it was pretty stupid of both parties.. Give me the sun anytime..

Gibby, I understand people have to work on Monday but how would it look if any of the guys had to call off cause they got injured in the fight or even worse they was sitting in jail if the police were called ??? Was just a dumb thing for them and the fans to do at such a great event..

SSUSA, I hope yinz do investigate this further and take action against the few that were really involved and not punish the innocent because of a few bad apples...

yep you guys are right about umps and TD's will be back.. we play leagues all year round here in Vegas at the same time of day and there's never any fights over the sun or teams asking the umps to delay the games.. there was a game at A-G involving Vegas Elks in 55AAA with the same sun problem on right side and the game went on without incident.. The older the guys are the less complaining you here from my experience with Senior softball.. as for the TD's being upset about the schedule, there are leagues goin on here that do supercede any tournament know matter who they are..

Discussion: Hr or out

Stick,me as an ump on that play I watch all runners because all its gonna take is for a player or coach to see the runners not touch a next base or step on wrong plate and if you're not paying attention you're in for plenty of arguing.. I know as an ump for 20 yrs that in senior ball someone is always watching the plays all the way thru.. So do your self a favor guys and watch the plays all the way thru cause you'll get caught one of these days in a situation ya don't wanna bring on yourself.. also it doesn't have to be a lazy ump ( there are a lot )cause if the balls hit over the fence he/sheis only gonna be by the plate to call HR.. I've yet to see an ump go out much further on HR call..

on the intentional drop the umps gotta be on his toes and call the "OUT" right away and loud enough so all can hear him so runners know what's going on.. "AND I MEAN LOUD ENOUGH" cause a lot of the seniors have that selective hearing !!!! ha ha

Great explanation Texas and funny story SSUSA.. Ya always get the one where infielder goes out into the grass and guys say he was in the outfield.. If that IF makes a reasonable effort to catch ball and doesn't turn back to IF that is still IF fly rule..

I swung this bat in Reno.. I'm not a power hitter but was hitting one bounce line drives to the fence against the wind.. I liked the feel and sound of the ball comn off the bat.. I want one when they come out for that reason and the warranty that comes with the bat.. Also don't play tourn. ball, just with LVSSA..
