Having enough "fresh" players is a big deal, as I found out at the TOC this past Jan.
After being the #1 seed, then losing the 1st. of the double elim. games, we had to win 5 games played back to back on Sun. morning. We won 4, and while doing so, ran out of gas only to lose the championship to a team we had already beat. If I had more than the 12 players that were able to go, I believe we at least could have given them a more competitive championship game. Lesson learned............

Joe
I love your enthusiasm and your desire to get you point across. Yeah, some where along the line I said "its only softball" and that is what I truly believe. I think we should all be happy to be able to still play this game [some better than others]. I remember a couple of former teamates, Ralph Key, Dave Galassi, Jeff [from Russel Realty, for that matter, Rennie himself]and others no longer with us, RIP, that would love to still be competeing like the rest of us. I hope you really do mean "there are bigger fish to fry" because I'd hate to have to add you to this list!!!

Depends on your ultimate goal. My AAA team is sponsored from the profits of a tourn. I run. I have 17 on my roster with 12 to 14 showing up for any tourn. [I know in advance who's coming]. Everyone bats and I rotate outfielders. As most of us are closer to 65 than 60, and play close to 100 games a yr., a break is not a bad thing. We all actually LIKE each other AND enjoy playing as a team. That being said, on the rare occasion of having more than 14, someone will sit out a game, usually an outfielder, and usually they like the break as they will still pinch run and base coach.

Sluggers13. It doesen't matter what you did. Rules are not applied evenly. We played aa for yrs. Win one tourn. [4games decided by 1 run], and are automatically moved up, play 2 tourn at aaa, go 1 and 9, appeal and were told we had to stay aaa. Other teams stay where they are after winning 2, 3, 4, or MORE big tourn. and never get moved. A real head scratcher!!!

Obviously Joe [Einstein], is very passionate about the sport he loves, but with all do respect [and I do mean respect], I don't believe he speaks for ALL of us NCSSA members. He speaks for the guys he hangs with NOT all of the "regular" guys. Yes, most of the players I hang with are not from teams no. 1 through 10 on the "left side of the ncssa rankings list" but we also believe what we believe and not always agree with what Joe thinks. Joe, in trying to make your point, you may be giving our assn. a bad rap, so to all you guys out there in cyberspace, don't paint all NCSSA guys with the same brush......

LP. this is what's good about this board, everyone is intitled to their opinion and I respect yours, BUT I also disagree. I see no reason to "get out of the kitchen" just because your getting older and your skill level is declining AND you've pitched all your life AND LIKE IT. As we get older and want to stay active, somethings have to change NOT END. The screen makes sense for some age groups.

LVSSA used to do a good job but has gone downhill the last few yrs. Poor fields, no maintenance bad umping and bad schedules. No wonder few teams participate.

NCSSA doesn't need another fake "WORLDS". How many "WORLDS" does softball need before they mean NOTHING. We have a tourn every weekend 10 months a yr. and have our own "Championships". We don't need anything more. I would invite any team any where to compete in one of our tourn. and see the quality of ball played by our teams. I know you'd have a great time.

Had to pay a 25% restocking fee when shoes I bought, and returned, didn't fit! After paying postage , I had very little left from my original purchase. Good service?

LP, what is your experience with the screen? Have you ever played a game using one? Have you ever seen a pitchers face after he's been hit? Do you think your skill level is the same now as when you were younger? Do you think a pitcher, or for that matter, ANY player should have to quit playing because of reduced skill levels? If so, would that mean you too?

I believe Terry is basically a good guy and I thank SSUSA for giving us a place to play, but the explanation of "How the entry fee discount works" isn't "working" for most of us. It becomes pretty obvious to anyone who checks that this is nothing special and certainly NOT any kind of a discount. After playing in these tourn. for 13 yrs.,I don't need to have any explanation of why or how things are done, especially one that insults my intelligence. I don't care if you get a kickback from the Hotels, Car Rentals, Airlines, Jostens, Annaconda, Miken etc. YOU SHOULD! If you didn't you'd be stupid!, but be honest about the explanation and try to get a deal for your attendees too. It is there!!

All this talk about PPR, Hot bats, Hot balls, who hit the ball, was he a big guy?, Young guy, big hitter, Monster Major player yadayadayadayada. The proof is out there. No PPR is needed, allow home runs, ALLOW ALL NEW EQUIPMENT BUT protect the pitcher BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. USE A SCREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 99% of these discussions go away. The only time the screen gets in the way is WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO.

Rod Sweet. I totally agree with the use of the screen. Ones safety should take precedent over image. Week after week I see the difference the screen makes in our local rec leagues [which have as much talent as most tourn. teams I've seen]
"Sports have inherent risks" "You can't stop everything" What a bonehead statement. Ever heard of seat belts and air bags!
