Discussion: Moving on up

It was my understanding, from previous SSUSA posts, that 60 major+ players are considered equivalent to 55 Major players for rating purposes, so even those two guys should not be the reason for the bump.

Interested to hear the logic on this one.

Discussion: SSUSA RULES COMMITTEE 2011 AGENDA SYNOPSIS

My $.02 worth

Border: eliminate for M+ division

Mercy Rule: i would like to see this implemented, at least for bracket games. If for all games, then move "run differential" ahead of "least runs allowed" in the tiebreaker hierarchy.

M+ vs. Major: the status quo is not acceptable.
(i)based on results/performance, i would recommend moving at least the top ten (10) Major teams up to M+. Some will disband, some will age-up, some will reorganize and come back as Major, but after a few years of moving up at least ten (10) teams, there is a viable chance at a meaningful draws at your regional tourneys.
(ii) Major+ draws of four (4) or less teams will be combined with Major division, using exsting equalizers.

humm....tried it again on this end, and it is blank - i.e., the bracket is there, but no scores/results.

if it works for others, then my decision to upgrade my pc this Xmas sounds timely.

all the best this holiday season.

Ok, no game and both will be declared Major+ champ's, correct? i will assume it was a typo listing EBO as Major in your comments above.

See you in a few days.

I see that the National Championship game is listed on both the 50 Major and 50 AAA draws, but not on the 50 Major+ draw. Does that mean that there will not be one, or is the game time still TBD?

Thanks.

Discussion: reebok vis a vis ultra....a year later

Ok, around this time last year, the new Reeboks senior bats were first introduced. Most new product offerings go through a few hiccups, and we have been made aware of the Reeboks via this board. (By the way, Reebok owes that one guy who is on this board a bonus as he kept a lid on it when things went sideways earlier this year.) At this point, it appears that the bugs have been worked out, so.....

Did Reebok met its goal of making as good as or a better performing bat, with improved durability, than the Miken, or is it just the same bat in a different wrapper? Is it clearly better? Not as good?

I don't have a dog in this fight, i am just asking as a comsumer. Is it just personal preference, or is Reebok the new king of the hill? I am tryign to "baby" my remaining bats, one miken and one worth, through the worlds, but after that i need to decide what i will be using next year.

Any informed insight from my fellow players?

Thanks in advance.

Discussion: Divisions

Be care what you wish for......i had a friend play in the USSSA 35/40 Regional/Worlds (?)in Oregon this past weekend, and he cant wait to play SSUSA World in Phoenix where he hopes the bats will be more uniform.

Why? He said that doctored bats (some of which he claimed were superior to senior bats) were the norm rather than the exception, and it was so obvious to everyone in attendance that it will probably be worse next year - i.e., the guys who brought knives to the gun fight will not let that happen twice.

I have heard comments that some seniors actually doctor senior bats, but i would suspect that they are the exception. For the most part, we are playing by the same rules as it relates to bats. I will grant that the bats have had an impact, but at least it is a level playing field.

A reduced bat ideology, however altruistic it may be, would only result in an "enhanced" bat combo, for those with the "win at all cost" mentality. Sure we can monitor it, but after years of trying, the young guys are no closer to fixing that problem.

Discussion: World Tournaments...time limits

Growing up, World tournaments were always the one exception to the time limit rule. The thinking was that a lot of teams have spent a lot of money to be there, and with it being the Worlds, it was prudent to allow all games to go the full seven innings (except for mercy rule games).

Our senior team has accepted the fact that we will rarely, if ever, play a seven inning game. and i wonder how we let that happen. We would be willing to compromise on a time limit for the seeding games at 70 minutes, but feel that all brackets games sohuld go the full seven(7) innings.

i am sure we have all played in a close, exciting, important game at the Worlds that was called on time, only to sit around and see that the next game on that field didnt start for 30 minutes, while the ump and teams dilly dallied around.

I know it is too late to fix for this year, but maybe this could be discussed for the 2012 season. Keep in mind, the 5 run limit will still keep the games moving along. If put to a player vote, i am sure an overwhelming majority would not mind having their time at the fields lengthened as a result of beign able to play the full seven innings - it is not as if we have something else to do that weekend.

Is EBO "likely" going to be named National Champion or have they been named National Champion, as your wording hedges on that fact.

A clarification is appreciated.

Discussion: How do the other major teams feel about major and major plus in western national

I have been going to SSUSA events for four years now, and the fields in Vacaville feel far below the standard they have set in their other venues over those years - i.e., they were horrible. We could all name a number of softball facilites within a thirty (30) mile radius (the distance from Woodland and Vacaville) in any direction that would have been much more acceptable to the fans and players alike. i understand that many may have been in use, but there had to be better option(s).

The "what are we going to do with Major+ teams" issue has to be addressed sooner rather than later. Senior softball is going to lose out if things stay status quo. Similarly to the growing sentiment of the Major teams refusing to play in mixed tourneys (and I empathize with their concerns above), the Major + teams are/have gone on record as no longer willing to participate in three-team, multi-day, full-price tourneys - so, something has got to give.

My personal feeling is that there should be no more than two divisions per each age grouping, so that we can get back to the 15 - 20 teams draws where winning a tourney actually meant you had to go through a gauntlet of competitive teams. As it stands now, every team feels that no matter how good(or bad) they are, they should be placed in a division where they have a chance to win - it didn't work that way in any sport I played growing up, and I don't like it now (and i have been on weak teams that were on the short end of many butt whipping over the years in lots of different team sports).

Discussion: awards package....

To be clear, i do not play for awards at this point (never really did unless it was money or super cool stuff), but I was talking to a non-softball playing friend about my Western Nationals tournament this weekend. He asked me "what do you get for winning?". To be honest, i was stumped and he laughed like i was nuts.

Now that he has made me curious, does anyone know what the team and individual awards are this weekend? (I could not find this information on the tournament link).

Thanks in advance.

I got your backs, Joe and Tim. Barons and MTC will both end up in the top three.

Roll with 2 is the old Wilson Trophy team...solid.

This is done all in fun, as we all know it is determined on the field, not this board.

Good luck to everyone.

Discussion: SENIOR REEBOK

help me out, and i welcome any and all opinions/comments.

early on, one of the biggest selling points of the reebok bat vis a vis the ultra was the improved durabilty - i.e., everyone was tired of having to baby their ultra through a few games and/or tourneys. It now seems as if reebok buyers are now being told to "do this and dont do that" so that it will "last" - a familiar tune directed at the ultra.

first off, let me say that i do appreciate reebok's efforts in allowing us another choice in the marketplace, and that, from a performance perspective, i have wintessed that they have delivered.

i am milking the last days out of my current bats. When they go, can i buy a reebok and feel comfortable that it will last the rest of the year or should i put it in the same category as the ultra when it comes to durability.

There are exceptions to every rule, but i think it is universally understood that combats last longer than ultras - where does the reebok fall in the spectrum?

thanks in advance.

Discussion: rosters

there seems to be a little circular logic going on here.

The reason i posted this question: when you visit the NCSSA website and try to use the "Roster" or "Distance Calculator" links, they state that this database (which heretofore has always been accessbile via NCSSA) has been turned over to SSUSA and they are awaiting a link from you...and now you say it is not a matter of public record.

Any workaround plans?
