How many 60 Major teams are going to this event? I've hear that Herb does not rate teams untill after the seeding games and this could be a big mess. If a team gets hot for a game or 2 a team thats rated M could be moved to M+ for Tourney. What have you guys hear about this, I really like Mr Oliver and he has done a lot for Senior ball but feel a team should know before hand what division they will be in.

I have no problem with the 44x375 ball but feel no ball hotter should be used with the senior bats. The only rule talked about on here if applied would cause me to stop playing is a screen!!

Discussion: Running in the Batters Box

With all the discussion on here about safety for Pitchers what are your thought about running in the box? We keep moving the rubber back so pitcher will be futher from Batter but some runners will be 3-5 feet in front of plate when they hit the ball and the Umps very seldom call him out. A lot of the wicked shots I have seen come from this. Pitcher throws ball a foot short and thinks no way batter can hit it hard, relaxes and then a rocket is coming at him. Some batters take one step and hit and this does not seem so bad but the ones that run 3-5 steps and end up way in front of plate I feel should be addressed. BTW we have a couple of guys on our team that does this.

Discussion: To screen or not to screen... (Continued)

None of us wants to hit Crappy balls Joe,but if I remember right last fall there were a tourney in Vegas and a real hot ball was used and that's what started this stuff about screens and some wanting a more balance game. I'm fine with the 44x375 ball but nothing hotter than that should ever be used with the senior bats, but also feel that a toned down ball would be better. Its crazy that a Pitcher makes a good pitch and batter miss hits ball and it still goes out of ballpark.

Joe,whether we like it or not Liability is a big concern for SSUSA-SPA etc in today's world. I do not know if the 52x275 ball is the answer or not but one thing I do know and that's a screen is not because most good defensive Pitchers will not play. They love to field their position as much as you like to hit a ball out of sight and do not want to hide behine a screen. One Question I have is you say that a great majority agree with you,do they not post on here?
I don't know if your last sentence was directed at me but I'm player/manger play 3rd base 60M and love and understand our senior game as much as anyone and do not let my ego get in the way of common sense.

Hey guys lets just back off, enistein is not going to change his mind. The common sense thing to do is go to the 52-275 ball that will protect the whole infield and the HR hitters will still hit thier's. Putting up a screen would change the game why to much. We need to let Terry H and others know our feeling and Joe and the other 5% of senior players that want the hot ball will whine some but will join the fun!

Good luck in Pensacola. Another close tourney that should have a good number of 60 M teams is the SSUSA qualifier across the Ohio River from Louisville in Clarksville,IN 1st weekend in June.

wazoo, our Jim & Joe's 60 Major team will be in Fort Knox and it looks like a go. I talked to Wes yesterday and he said there were 21 teams and thought a few more may get in.
As far as the Gallatin tourney it's always 1st weekend in May and the 6 teams here in Louisville can not play that weekend due to the KY Derby plus Indy and Agusta have tourneys same weekend. I talked to Ridge last year and asked him to consider moving date of TN tourney and was shocked to see it was left at same weekend. I belive that event has been canceled 3 out of last 4 years due to lack of teams???
Hope your team will come to Ft Knox we just want to play, went to TOC in Fed. and have not play since.

Discussion: Pitchers Reaction Time Study

mad dog, great post I agree 100%. Common sense says something has to be done, and the most logic thing to do is cooler bats or balls. Most agree that the senior bat helps kept doctored bats out of our game,so the thing to do is tone down the ball. Most if not all good competive Pitcher's do not want a screen and say they would not duck behine it after pitching anyway,so why put it in the middle of infield ?
Einstein says most senior players wants to hit hot balls with the senior bats. Reading all the post on this subject why aren't all these players speaking up? Most of us that play this great game want to play the game as close the way it was played in our prime and a screen would change it way to much. Most of us are happy to hit our line drives and ground ball singles and let the HR hitters hit their HR's and do not have to stroke our ego's by hitting one 100+ feet over the fence. Also a cooler ball will stop a lot of miss-hit balls from going over the fence.

Steve,is there any way this tourney could be moved one week? There are 6 Louisville,KY teams that would like to play because its so close but can not due to the KY Derby on same weekend. I'm probably beating a dead horse (lol)but thought I would ask.

Discussion: Screens Needed? Read This.

I hate to hear about this and my prayers go out to George's family and friends. But I agree with Dirty the hot bats are the problem. I play 3rd base and have had line drives go by me so fast I could not move my glove, luckily they were not right at me. A screen is not the answer in competitive softball, maybe reck ball,co-ed etc
Joncon, was MR Crisp playing with the young guys like 30 year olds, and was the batter a runner. I belive that if the running in box was stopped this would help,a lot of the time a runner will be 4-6 feet in front of plate when he hits the ball and Umps never call them out of box. I'm not talking about one step but a batter starting in back of box and running 3 or 4 steps. MHO
