Paul:

Too bad you couldn't have made it to Barberton..we have 14 65's and 16 70's.

But anyway, I called to check how many teams they had for ROUTE 66...TEN TEAMS TOTAL. I also heard only TWO 65's and THREE 70's.

Hey, contact TEAM USA 50's MAJOR out of MARYLAND area..they called us (THEE BUCKEYE CLASSIC) looking for a 50's tournament in JUNE but we don't take majors and we are all booked anyway with 80 teams.

You can probably get the phone number from SACRAMENTO.

Good Luck

Discussion: Tee-shirts or other prizes?

I'll chime in on this one. We (THEE BUCKEYE CLASSIC) try to shy away from anything which requires sizes. With 80+ teams and 17+ Division winners which receive individual awards it is impossible to determine what the sizes of 300-shirts would be.

The alternative of course is to get the sizes after the tournament and then get the shirts sized and mailed and of course also pick up the shipping costs (and then hear complaints of wrong sizes, should have ordere larger sizes, etc).

We have found it easier to award travel duffle bags (about $35 reatail but we don't pay retail), no sizes needed. we can duplicate this year because the majority of last year's champs were moved to major and we don't invite majors to THEE BUCKEYE CLASSIC. As a result we do not run a huge risk of last year's winners winning again and receiving the same awards.

For next year we will pribably figure out some way to guess on sizes and give jackets (which retail at $40 and that is definitely not what we pay for 300 of them).

Everybody always complains what do TD's do with all the money. So here are some expense we occur which may not be considered..$6,000 for field rental...grounds crew individual wages (Barberton is a union town); $25 weekday; $37.50 Saturday and $50.00 Sunday. Since it is a union town we have to use their union work force. Umpire fee's $7450.00 and awards should (trophies inc) be around $5,000. Throw in softballs, our own help which we hire and other incidental costs there is not that big of a profit margin for a TD.

Do not know what the profit margin was at the tournament you were talking about but maybe there was a reason for the awards you received.

The other option could be to conduct your own tournament and sit back and watch all the money roll in.

Bob:
There are 15 75's; 4 80's and 19 70's ALL AAA or AA at THEE BUCKEYE CLASSIC. I think SHELBYVILLE had 8 75's last year and Columbus, Ohio had 5 75's last year. No other senior tournament east of VEGAS except for TOC (7) and FORT MYERS (7) last year bettered Four teams.

The 2013 SPA WORLDS had 17. Looks like if you want to play more than FOUR 75's and you are east of VEGAS it is BARBERTON, COLUMBUS (OH), SHELBYVILLE, COLUMBUS SPA WORLDS; SSUSA TOC and SSUSA FORT MYERS.

Looking forward to seeing you and the JAGS in June.

Discussion: Brickyard Game Schedules & Brackets

Actually I think the 65's and 70's brackets would be the hardest to put together. When you have two AA 65's, three AAA 65's, one AA 70 and Two AAA 70's it gets pretty diffiult to try and mix teams for pool play and then separare again for double elimination.

It is a no-brainer when you have a lot of teams in the same age and class, but the 65's and 70's mix is not that easy.

However, if anybody can work it out,it is DAVE. He has a lot of experience and is very good. I think you will be much happier waiting the extra day for the schedules and knowing they are right then having a hurry-up job put together.

The BRICKYARD is one of the best run tournaments in senior softball (and that is coming from a director in another organization) and they always do things in the best interest of the teams. Despite the extra wait, you will eventually be very happy with the end result.
