Discussion: Medical Emergency When Out Of Town

The player was Ed Rothe, our shortstop. He collapsed in the second inning of our first game. He woke up a short time later, said he didn't know what had happened, insisted on getting up and walking off the field. A short time later, he passed out again and stopped breathing.

A 911 call was made immediately, using a cell phone. After a long time trying to have the operator dispatch help, someone ran over to the police station across the way, and finally, help arrived.

We were told that it was not a heart attack, but rather a pulmonary embolism. An obituary can be read at http://obit.howemortuary.com/obitdisplay.html?id=520692&clientid=howemortuary&listing=Found
