| June 17, 2019 SCUBA | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Menifee Valley (CA) Upper Division Senior Softball - Fall 2019 Season Menifee Valley Upper Division Senior Softball (MVUDSS) is a Monday morning men's softball league for seniors 55+. Players turning 55 in 2020 are also eligible to play in the Fall 2019 Season. Games are played at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Perris, CA. Out-of-area teams have the option of playing once a week or playing doubleheaders every other week. We use SSUSA tournament rules and approved bats; e.g. Miken Ultra II is OK. The Fall 2019/Spring 2020 player draft will be held on Monday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 21. The Fall 2019 Season is scheduled to start on August 26, 2019 and run through December 16, 2019. The league is open to tournament-caliber players. It consists of teams/players from the Menifee Valley, Hemet, Ontario, and North San Diego County areas, and walk-ons. Teams will receive competitive tournament style play, professional umpires, the best possible ball fields, more games, and great prizes. | Dec. 21, 2018 SCUBA | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Menifee Valley (CA) Upper Division Senior Softball - Spring 2019 Season Benji4, for the current 2019 spring season we will be adding players to our local teams on a full-time basis as openings become available. When there are no openings, you can be placed in the player pool and may be picked up by teams when they are missing a player on game day. There is no league fee for players in the player pool. At the end of August, however, we do draft all new teams so you would be included on the draft list for the 2019 fall season. Also, you must attend a batting practice to be rated before any of the above can be done. I suggest you visit our league website or call me if you have any further questions. |

| Dec. 11, 2018 SCUBA | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: WALKOFF 4-Base Award With the game tied and men on base, if a 4-Base Award (Rule 8.4(7)) is no longer treated as an over-the-fence home run, do all baserunners score on a WALKOFF 4-Base Award? If so, with the game tied and runners on 2B and 3B, do both baserunners score on a WALKOFF 2-Base Award since a ground-rule double allows ALL baserunners to advance two bases? |
| Nov. 8, 2018 SCUBA | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Errant Throw to 1B First of all, I'd like to thank stick8, B.J., DaveDowell and the others for discussing this issue with me. I do appreciate your input. I also apologize for not making myself clear enough on what I really wanted to ask. Sometimes expressing one's thoughts in print is not as easy as actually expressing them verbally. That said, I'm going to ask the question in the way I should have in the first place. If I botch it again, I do appreciate your responses and we'll call it a day. Anyway, here goes: IF IN THE UMPIRE'S JUDGMENT, there was no chance of a collision because of the errant throw (not because the B/R was trying to avoid running into the first baseman), yet he calls the B/R out anyway for touching the white base. Safe or out? On a side note, Machado should have been ejected... and, I'm a Dodger fan. |

But, let's forget that rule for the moment. Under the scenario where the shortstop makes a bad throw, the batter-runner arrives at 1B after the ball gets by the first baseman, and the batter-runner couldn't collide with the first baseman even if he tried to because the first baseman was nowhere near the bag, would you really call the batter-runner out for stepping on the inside bag? |

I can't see where a throw that takes the first baseman way into right field or is overthrown and where the first baseman is nowhere near 1B when the batter-runner steps on the inside bag can result in an out. If the umpire feels that the batter-runner did not attempt to avoid a collision under the above scenario, it's time to change umpires. And, if the defense benefits from a wild throw with the first baseman nowhere near the bag when the batter-runner steps on 1B, then it's time to clarify the rule. A bang-bang play at 1B is a judgment call. The above scenario is not. If the batter-runner is called out, it's the umpire's misinterpretation of the intent of the rule --- to avoid the potential possibility of a collision. |
| Nov. 7, 2018 SCUBA | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Errant Throw to 1B In league play, ground ball to shortstop, throw to 1B pulls first baseman "way off" the base (and, when I say "way off", I mean far enough such that the umpire, batter-runner, and the rest of the world knows that the batter-runner was not out on the throw). The batter-runner, however, then steps on the inside base of the double base. Safe or out? By the way, I know the answer. But the umpire, who reads the message board, may not. I would appreciate as many responses/opinions/explanations as possible. |

So, do both you and coop agree then that SSUSA Rule 8.4(1) should be clarified (note: not saying it's wrong) by: Removing " Important: The defending player has only the white base, in fair territory, to make the putout; his touch of only the bag in foul territory will not result in an out." and replacing it with "The defending player simultaneously touching both portions of the double bag is permitted." ? |

This tournament will benefit disabled American veterans. All profits will go to the "4 Paws for Patriots" charity. The tournament is open to all tournament and recreational teams 55 years and over.
