Nov. 23, 2010 Dirty | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Who will be attending? Good pitching speeds up the game the way it was intended. If you have opponents taking 4 or 5 pitches per AB, get a better pitcher. Who has the right to tell me what I have to wear as a pitcher? If I choose to wear only my glove for 'protection', whose business is that? Seriously, why is that anyone else's concern? |
Nov. 18, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Old is the new...old Look at Einstein dropping a Hendrix line. Good job Joe! |
Nov. 15, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 3 changes E4, artifically short games in very small brackets makes you "so happy"? Pitchers looking like Sir Lancelot makes you 'so happy'? I wish I could be as easily pleased. :) |
Nov. 12, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: HAPPY VETERANS DAY Dang, sometimes I have wondered about some of your ages. I am 54 and don't have a grandchild yet, much less one of military age. Good luck to him, Gary. My son spent 15 months in Baghdad a few years back, and it was not fun for any of us. |
Nov. 12, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 3 changes E4, you might have missed my point, or I might not have said it clearly. Why are only Seniors, as far as I know, using the 5-run rule? Why not the younger/under 50/non-senior games? Aren't they also concerned about long games? Aren't their umps also concerned about length of games? Don't these games care about 'economics'? Yet they don't use the silly rule. |
Nov. 12, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 3 changes Couple of things. One, Jawood are you a Socialist? :) Two, there have always been money, umps, and long/longer games in softball. Why all of a sudden were these such factors that silly rules like this came into play? And three, why isn't the run rule used for the kids? Don't all of these factors apply to their games as well? Or is it because they more consistently hustle on and off the field? |
Nov. 12, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 3 changes What is the reason for the 5-run limit? To speed up the game? If so, terrible reason. To keep games close? That is the job of the players to improve themselves, their team, and make themselves competitive. NOT for some hokey rule to try and do that. Seriously, what was the reason for the rule in the first place? And is it only in Senior ball? I have not seen it anywhere else. |
Nov. 12, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 3 changes Bruce, I always knew there was hope for you. LOL Now as far as some of these other guys............................. |
Nov. 12, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 3 changes 0-0 count. The way the game was meant to be played. You want games to be faster, pitch better and hustle on and off the field. NO mat. The game was meant to be played with a vertical strike zone individualized to each batter, NOT horizontal and the same size for all. NO time limits. The 'beauty' of baseball/softball is it is the only team game without a clock. What genius decided to ruin that? |
Nov. 11, 2010 Dirty | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: rules of the game Jawood, I understand. But a good pitcher will take the bat out of the batters hands, well as much as you can do that in slow-pitch, and speed the game up as well. The problem is not the count, it is the silly time limit rules. |
Nov. 11, 2010 Dirty | Topic: Bats Discussion: Combining Divisions Part II There sure should be a difference, or the divisional structure is failing miserably. I think they close the gap. Guys who have no business hitting homers, and probably weren't 30 years ago, not hit them. The true Major or Major+ guy who was hitting 325' is now hitting 375', but on typical 300' fences is matters not. But the true AA or AAA guy who was hitting 280' and is not hitting 315' is getting credit for the same home run as the upper level guys, since distance does not matter as long as the ball clears the fence. |
Nov. 10, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: BREAKING NEWS ALERT! ALERT! The truth is, if I can be so bold, winning AA is by definition being the 'best of the worst'. AA is the lowest level of tournament ball, that is just fact. NO judgement at all with that statement, just fact. |
Nov. 10, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: winter nationals - ft. myers Ray, I was looking at the bracket. Are you guys now Northern Ohio Printing? Most of the guys still from NE Ohio? |
Nov. 10, 2010 Dirty | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: rules of the game Then let them 'work' the batters. At the end of the day, it is a big ball being delivered underhand. Whatever a pitcher can get away with, more power to him. |
Nov. 10, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Combining Divisions Ooooooh, you used my real name! My God, not I am going to have to go into witness protection. What a D-bag! So you are saying that old men have such little pride that they would be willing to play up just so they could use special bats? Sad statement on senior softball. By the way, since you tell us so often about your championships, care to provide some detail on what classification they were won in? Sorry I don't know, I must have missed SportCenter the day after you won and did not see the feature on you. |
Nov. 9, 2010 Dirty | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: rules of the game Joe, good pitching does the exact same thing without further changing/altering/bastardizing/ruining the game. |
Nov. 9, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Combining Divisions What I didn't get out of what DMac originally wrote is why do the best players need the best bats? Counterintuitive to me. |
Nov. 9, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Combining Divisions E4, it is a basic economic principle. The more of something there is, the less value it has. As far as me having to win a championship to speak on the subject, I am going to guess you have had an opinion at some time on politicians. What offices have you held? Have you been critical of a TV show or movie? How many have you produced, directed, and/or acted in? Have you had an opinion on a restaurant? Where have you been a chef? Get the point? |
Nov. 8, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Question 4 Major Plus teams?? Joe, if teams want to make/keep games competitive, they should improve themselves. NOT look for more bizarre rules to do that for them. I am 54, take BP 3 times a week, and am in the gym 5 times a week in the off-season. Not that this makes me all-world or anything, but I'll be damned if I am not going to keep trying to improve myself. Others can work to do the same, and stop looking for rules and equipment to do it for them. |
Nov. 8, 2010 Dirty | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Combining Divisions boston, you have that pretty much exactly correct. :) |
