Feb. 26, 2018 Lecak | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: MLB discussing allowing anyone to bat in 9th inning MLB executives kicking this around to bring excitement to game. Apparently MLB has noticed all other sports allow their best players on the field when the games are on the line. This should send the purists to an early grave. Sounds like a great idea for softball debate. |
Feb. 5, 2018 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Spot the Major + player OZ40 I do some personal training with Seniors of all skill levels. I have an easier time training people for strength than I do balance, flexibility and speed. I have a program I use for the latter 3 and I’m noticing that older folks find the work necessary tedious with results taking time to notice. Strength training even among older adults you can see noticeable changes much quicker. My observations for what their worth. |
Oct. 18, 2017 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Do you use wearable fitness technology when you work out I’m going to be involved in a research project with my local university to study the reliability of wearable fitness technology. Studies at this university have only been conducted on younger groups. They want to study how seniors use this technology for their performance goals and if the information is accurate. It’ looks like promising and timely research given recent news that Apple is looking into getting into health care. I can’t imagine their watch technology won’t be a center piece. Anyone use iwearable fitness technology and what do you measure. Me personally I measure my resting heart rate, and my heart rate when working out and the elevation change measurements. Some features I don’t use are the calorie expenditure and measuring steps taken. |
Aug. 2, 2017 Lecak | Topic: Bats Discussion: shaved bats Bert I'm only getting a trainer license not a license to practice miracles from the Vatican. Just kidding Mike tells me you guys are having a good season. |
Aug. 2, 2017 Lecak | Topic: Bats Discussion: shaved bats A couple observations. I can't speak to shaved bats or PED's. I can speak a bit on performance. For anyone to add 30-40 pounds of muscle especially a 70 plus year old would be a monumental task. I'm close to obtaining my fitness trainer license and my studies tell me adding that kind of muscle would require a very specific regimen not available to most. Most likely someone that age could change diet, add strength and power training and lose 20 pounds of fat, add 8-10 pounds of muscle and significantly change their look even at that age. I've seen a number of 65-70 year old players pound the ball. Mike your one of them. Wolfman if a 70 year old asked me to train them to add 40 pounds of muscle I would politely decline I would have no idea how to proceed. I hit some balls the other day I have not swung a bat in 4 years . Used an Adiddas Melee from a friend forgot how much fun hitting is. Never say never. |
May 15, 2017 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Lower back problems Armiho211 About 6 years ago I was scheduled for back surgery. As a last resort I asked for additional therapy. I was sent to a rehab clinic that specialized in Pilates. Long story short we cancelled the surgery and I don't have many issues except when I over do it. I continue to do Pilates with an instructor 2-3 times a week. Anyone that asks me I always suggest talking with your doctor and see if he or she will recommend Pilates. If you can get 10 sessions the information and education on your core is worth the investment. Make sure your doctor is involved. I have not found much that would qualify as over doing it by the way. Good luck back pain sucks. |

Nov. 16, 2016 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Fall Training Camp for Senior players JT25 there is a gentleman in Phoenix you might know Steve Imlay who I know will be putting on softball clinics throughout the west and Southwest. There are numerous players on this board who will vouch for his ability to teach. Contact him his number is 702-521-3550. |

Dec. 17, 2015 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: In your whole softball career who was the individual(s) (coach, player, relative, etc) who had the most impact on your approach, development and how you play the game? And why? Stick love this. I started playing back in Pittsburgh in the early 70's. I played with a men's team when I was still in high school at the Mifflin Club. I was asked to play for the US Steel team when I graduated from high school. I was going to be given a job giving out parts for maintenance never took the job went to college and moved to Los Angeles. While still in high school played against Paul Tomasavich. I watched everything he did. Best lesson I was a home run hitter back then and quickly learned when you hit one act like you did it all the time keep your head down and get into your dugout quickly. The other big lesson it's OK to lose big and beat a team big. Play the game out don't show up the other team and put the game away when you get the chance. Tomasavich was the best softball player I've ever been on the field with. |
Oct. 11, 2014 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 1 and 1 pitch count Pttcher22 I can vouch for attending the meeting. About 10 years ago myself and another gentleman attended the meeting in Tucson we wanted to pitch the 40 division. SSUSA at the time had a sparsely attended 40 tournament more as a side show. We got an audience in front of all the associations including UTRIP, ASA, SPA and SSUSA. Our proposal was to offer the division full time including ratings, and offering memberships. We got laughed out except for one SSUSA. ASA at the time was the king of the 40 division. In 2005 I think we had 5 or 6 teams in the 40's this year it was probably their fastest growing division and probably had well over 50 teams. They obviously listened. If you want the 1-1 count do what they told in the post we did and it worked. |
Oct. 11, 2014 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: WHO ARE CURRENTLY THE MOST POWERFUL HITTERS IN SENIOR SOFTBALL Steve remember Derek Williams from Vegas heard he turned 50 and started hitting with the seniors. I forget who told me he was hitting some jaw dropping bombs. |

Oct. 9, 2014 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Vegas parksfields, applies to other events as well. LIGHTS Traits revolving power outages? We're like two feet from the hoover dam we have probably the most stable power situation in the country. I've lived in Vegas for 12 years and don't remember ever losing power. |
Oct. 3, 2014 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: WHO ARE CURRENTLY THE MOST POWERFUL HITTERS IN SENIOR SOFTBALL How about another spin on this. Senior softball I believe works with the Wounded Warriors. There are 3 tournaments in the next 4-6 months that are well attended Phoenix, Florida and the Tournament of Champions. Maybe the brothers attend each and have a home run derby with all proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors. Win/Win for everyone. Sounds more productive than posting unproductive stuff. |

We get 300,000 thousand visitors a weekend people love the NFL in Vegas. Prime weather also for golf. Lots of competition for cars and taxis. |
July 6, 2014 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Anyone find relief for piriformis syndrome? Bogie a couple things I do. I use a foam roller daily you can find them at any good sporting goods store, when I was in rehab it was Pilates based I swear by Pilates and google the figure 4 stretch it really helps stretch the muscles in that area. Good luck. Tony advice is really good same principle as using a foam roller except the balls go deeper. |
Dec. 13, 2013 Lecak | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Shoulder replacement Birdie curious what your doctor said. I'm going to have a shoulder replacement sometime in the next few months. I made the decision to go through with it after consulting with a top shoulder doctor in Los Angeles. I'm working with doctors at the Kerlan-Jobe clinic. I don't have a set date that will be determined in mid January. I'm working right now to up my conditioning, come in at a light weight with the hopes of speeding up the recovery time. If you decided to have the surgery it would certainly be helpful probably to both of us to stay in contact misery loves company or something like that. I got nothing left of my shoulder joint for conventional surgery, I have metal in there from a previous surgery 30 years ago and it migrated the MRI revealed that between the spurs and metal everytime I moved the arm it cut something. Frampton your thoughts were appreciated when making my decision. |
