Corky, just checking to see how you are doing. Our players always looked forward to seeing you and your truck at major tournaments.
We played a tournament in San Marcos, TX last week, I thought about stopping by and see if you could straighten
out my swing (not likely).

Some interesting stats on pitch count (from MLB over a (4) yr period):
Absent similar FP softball data, MLB averages by pitch count for 4 recent years as borrowed from the following theoleballgame.com website (link http://www.theoleballgame.com/battin...-analysis.html ) I can't verify the validity of the data because I don't know the source but it appears consistent w/ average splits i've seen previously (I used the referenced site because I could easily copy and paste the data from it for view here)

Count 2000 2007 2008 2009
First Pitch .336 .344 .337 .338
1-0 .343 .341 .339 .340
2-0 .360 .350 .355 .368
3-0 xxxx .396 .370 .395
0-1 .324 .324 .339 .317
1-1 .325 .327 .329 .332
2-1 .340 .339 .339 .339
3-1 .344 .368 .350 .352
0-2 .160 .164 .160 .156
1-2 .178 .170 .179 .171
2-2 .195 .191 .194 .189
Full .234 .230 .227 .233

I have always believed that 3-2 is a pitchers count. The statistics above indicate that the pitcher's advantage is only greater in 3 other counts (i.e., all other 2 strike counts). Are your opinions and your recommended approach to DD/players, whether pitcher or hitter, consistent with the data? Other thoughts or revelations?

Although I'd expect FP data to reflect higher averages than MLB, I don't expect major differences in the relative averages by count. FP data would be welcomed if anybody knows a source.

The separation of church sb the norm. I see MLB players
looking skyward after hitting a home run, it could have
been divine intervention, who knows.

Discussion: international tie breaker-runner

At the Heart of Texas Qualifier in Georgetown this rule was violated.
The tie breaking runner did not advance to 3rd before he was replaced
by another runner. The umpire did not know the rules, the opposing manager questioned the umpire, but they umpire allowed another runner
replace the tie breaking runner at 2nd base.
5.4(2) • INTERNATIONAL TIE-BREAKER RULE
Teams start each half-inning with a runner on second base. The runner is the last batter of the previous inning whose turn at bat had been completed, assuming a position on second base. No substitute or courtesy runner may replace him until he has reached third base.
If the last batter of the previous inning cannot continue to play because of injury, illness, etc., he will be declared out and the next previous batter will be the tie-breaker runner.

I have a question, if a team, after winning the elimination bracket, forfeits to the other team that is in the championship bracket, does the team that forfeits finish 2nd?

Correction: We will be playing all our games at Shadow Rock, since the Clark County Economy is booming, why doesn't the county invest some money to upgrade the fields at Shadow Rock? Simple upgrades, level the fields, water the fields, drag the fields, we are not asking for a field of dreams complex, but fields that are worthy of the $700/entry fee.
Thanks

Note: Clark County
Overview
With a population of more than 1.7 million, Clark County is home to the fastest growing city in the nation (Las Vegas). As the county continues to grow, opportunity and resources follow in step. Quality education beginning with the local school districts and enhanced by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas help produce and improve the workforce that supports growing industries in the area.
From education to technology, growth is prevalent in the county and technological growth is supported by a new fiber-based telecommunications infrastructure. Strong transit and transportations assist the local and regional economies while providing easy access to the 11 Western states and nearly 53 million people. Additionally, Clark County offers an exciting quality of life with countless entertainment outlets, cultural activities, and recreation including golf and outdoor opportunities with nearby Lake Mead, Red Rock and Mt. Charleston just to name a few.

Discussion: VEGAS FIELDS

Since we had 60 plus team in 50+ age bracket (AAA) playing in Las Vegas World Championship in 2014, is it time to
review the mix in the 50+ division:
50+ Major Plus- 15 teams,
50+ Major-31 teams,
50+ AAA- 62 teams, &
50+ AA- 8 teams.
Note: Is there a AAA+ rating on the horizon for the 50's?

My recommendation would be to relocate the Texas State
Championship to Austin, TX., There is (11) field complex
at Krieg, with (9) of the fields that are 300 ft. Lots of
things to do in Austin. Austin has great airport to fly into, with all the major airlines serving it.

Yes, assuming the hitter does not swing at an illegal pitch.
Also, in tournament and league play, umpires seem to call more illegal pitch when the ball exceeds the maximum arc of 12', than the minimum arc of 6'.

Discussion: Required Face Masks

What is the best slow pitch softball pitcher protection mask/helmet?
Some of the infielder's mask don't seem to have adequate
protection for a pitcher. Our pitcher has purchased
a pitcher's helmet that is designed specifically to protect the pitcher.

Correction:
IS:
Our league does not require a pitcher to wear a mask.
We have some heavy hitters, that can really rip the ball.
Can a softball exceed 100 mph when traveling from the batter's box to the pitcher's rubber (50 ft)?

Discussion: Proposed changes in our local league

We had (4) teams in the 60's/65's league tournament bracket play double headers on Saturday. The results were:
1) one (1) team was 2-0
2) two (2) teams were 1-1
3) one (1) team was 0-2.
4) one (1) team did not play.
All of the games were competitive.

Discussion: Proposed changes in our local league

Our league (SASSL) has no draft, the league has created a
tournament team bracket to balance the league. We have
(5) teams in the tournament bracket, and we have (7) teams in the rec bracket. We have a team rating committee and we do have an equalizer rule in place. This is our first year
using this format. This will affect the 60s'+ teams only.
Without a draft in place, the league has attempted to create a level playing field.
