Discussion: States "Re-opening" plans

In Texas We have tournaments scheduled in June, based on Governor Abbott's decision today, May 18th, will determine if cities, who are hosting tournaments, will reopen.
For us 65 & over players, Texas Dept of Health & Science is using this basic guideline:
Individuals aged 65 or older are at a higher risk of COVID-19. To the extent possible, avoid contact within 6 feet with individuals aged 65 and older. Individuals aged 65 and older should stay at home as much as possible.

Discussion: States "Re-opening" plans

Before cities can open up their softball fields for tournaments, the liability issues would have to be resolved before they allow 100's of 65+ players to congregate & play ball. In Texas we have several senior softball tournaments scheduled in June, all we can do is wait & see.

Check your facts, coronavirus can be transmitted from animals to humans without ingesting the animal. The coronavirus has mutated.

Discussion: Corona Virus (COVID-19) • Part II

In the San Antonio & Austin areas, haven't heard of any senior softball player being diagnosed with corona virus. The Governor has locked down the state. Probably not a lot of testing going on, there are mobile site that have been setup to test. I have done some research, the virus mutated & now can be transfer from animals to humans. Looking forward to playing again, when it is safe to do so.

Discussion: Commitment Line

We had a play in league, 3rd baseman chased the runner pass the commitment line, the 3rd baseman tagged the runner, the umpire called the runner out, in my opinion the rummer is safe if the following rule is still in effect.

SSUSA has a rule that once you pass the commitment line (approx. 30 ft from home plate) he must continue home and it is a force play. You can not tag the runner or he is safe.

Discussion: After TKR

It has been 6 months since I had a TKR, playing again after my Dr released me. When will the stiffness & soreness subside? I am working out 3-4 days/wk, 30 minutes on the elliptical, light weights, & riding my bike. I played college station & running the bases was a challenge. I took a couple of aleve/naproxen on game day, that seemed to help some. I just found out you can purchase 500 mg aleve/naproxen otc, I may try the higher dosage. The team is going to the Rocky Mountain Championship, trying to get ready.
Any recommendations or just take the man up pill & play?

After doing some research, I am having knee surgery (not sure if it will be partial or total knee replacement). My surgeon will be using the Stryker Triathlon Knee replacement implant.Hopefully will be back on the field & playing in six (6) months)

Discussion: Bone On Bone

I will probably have a TKR, my surgeon is skeptical on whether I can resume playing softball again. I have 2 teammates who have had TKR & they are playing again. Their suggestion was to have high flex knee implant with a shelf life of 20 yrs.

Note: Thanks for input & information.

Discussion: Bone On Bone

I have been doing some research on an alternate treatments for bone on bone knee. My surgeon wants to do a knee replacement, I would like to avoid surgery if possible. I have been reading about Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, I haven't been able find any results if it is successful in treating bone on bone knee. Has anyone had the PRP injections, if so what were the results?
Capt Kirk
Note: I have had the gel shot and nerve block shots, they did give me some temporary relief.

Discussion: Clean vs Dirty

I have Dudley End Loaded Bat, and the barrel has a substance on it that attracts dirt and grime. Does it make it any difference, performance, whether the bat has been dirtied up or if it is clean? I just used a scrub daddy sponge to clean it. Maddog, I know what your comment will be about my bat, are you hitting the ball hard enough to dirty it up?

Capt Kirk
Note: We just played in the Team Texas Shootout Tournament in Austin, it was ran extremely well and Tee Shirts were awarded to the 1st and 2nd place finishers. The Design Logo on the shirts are great.
