Discussion: POWER HITTERS

As an addition to Dave and Bruce, one thing you must have in power hitting is ATTITUDE. There is such a thing as Powering Thru The Strike of the ball. This is where a major increase in distance happens.

Capt Kirk. 99% of the time the 70+ teams I play against use a 5th infielder with the standard 4 outfielders.

Discussion: Endload?

Jimmy, probably around 225 actual swings.

Be sure to rotate the bat 1/8th turn for each strike.

And make sure you hit up and down the barrel of bat
for the full trampoline effect when bat is broken-in.

Discussion: Bats

I used a team mates 2 year old Big Cat in Vegas Championships last year.

It performed almost as good as the original Ultra II with the 47/525 ball IMO.

I always used balanced, now think the EL's are best for launch.

Hi tech single wall + 47/525 ball went out of park, pitchers got hit.

Now:

Hi tech composite + 44/375 ball goes out of park, pitchers are still occasionally being hit.

97 DeMarini $300, 100 to 200 swings.
2015 Ultra II 100 to 1000 swings at $170 to $180.

I pitched against the T2000, wow, nothing else can compare to speed to that ball.

Masks are good. imo

And Finally:

I LOVE THE GAME TODAY JUST AS IT IS, THANKS TO ORGS
THAT PUT ON TOURNAMENTS.

Discussion: Question about single-wall metal bats

Started playing in early 70's. Wood Bats.

When single wall bats came along they appeared to be ready
to go on first swing. Sometimes by the end of 1st inning
a $135 dollar bat would be mashed flat when the top 7 guys on
our team used the same bat.

The Double Wall bat got better after some use. Over time
it also flattened. The best all time double wall bat I ever
hit was the 97 Model 26oz DeMarini. This bat retailed for $300.oo.

Discussion: New Glove - Break in

I use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on the outside and inside of my glove. A good coat slowly melted in with a hair dryer.

Glove does not get slick and with inside also coated in summer moister is not that hard on the glove.

I like a center pocket, so while watching TV put a ball in glove, grab thumb of glove with left hand, get little finger of glove with right hand doing a push/pull motion. this will break glove in a lot and allow glove flex to hold ball when playing defense.

I will put 2 coats on prior to season and one during mid summer.

Discussion: Use a plate to touch to score, over crossing a line

As I have played and understand for a run to score the
runner must touch the ground on the line or behind the line.

If the catcher catches the ball legally and the runners foot is
still in the air even though beyond the line the runner is out.

For this I like an actual plate.

Discussion: Batting Average or On Base Percentage

Question on making a lineup.

Probably a wash BA or OBP.

A lower BA may hit lots of triples and doubles and as a result
score, where the OBP may die at 1st.

Other side the OBP guy is on 1st when the BA drives score home.

For your team if you really want to know, try keeping detailed
records for all of 2016 and see where most runs were scored.

OR, what feels the most productive for you.........

Discussion: Bat Selection Question

JamesLG - I used a Dudley in Dalton. I struck some balls that even the ump said "That is gone", however NONE went out.

In Las Vegas I used a Miken Big Cat. First time to use an endloaded as they did not feel right to me. Now it is the Big Cat for me. Ball went out of park like rockets. Now, it could be the balls and air density in Vegas.

Discussion: The care of senior bats

A lot of bat damage occurs when the grass is wet and ball rolls across infield coming back to batting practice pitcher. The wet ball pick up sand grains. Then when you hit that ball the sand puts little chinks in composite bats.

Great jimperry19.

I totally believe you play with the players you first qualified.

No pickups for the Worlds. Just not clean.

That last statement is really much stronger to me than it sounds to you probably.

Nasty, gutter. No HONORABLE to play those that did not bring you.

Mr. Sjuhoops - just reading it looks like the count is 5-5. You may need to cast a vote to break the tie. lol

I may hit up middle 1 or 2 times a year, it is always an accident. Played about 125 games this year and only hit 1 up the middle.

I really do not want to hit a pitcher.

Discussion: 2 FLEX or NOT 2 FLEX

In Golf, if I try to swing a Senior Shaft (Flex) the club face if open and behind my hands causing a slice. BAD.

I am not convinced in softball flex actually helps. You need swing speed to actually cause FLEX. If you have power/speed to cause flex in a softball bat I would think the bat would be pointed back some and not strike the ball as good. I do not like the feel of a flex bat. Oh, my measured golf club head speed is 109 mph.

In fishing flex is good.good.good.

Game would be more fun and more like real SOFTBALL with 10 players.

All the 70 teams I played against would do just fine with 10.

Discussion: Can you get faster?

Webbie, keep up the Down Hill running. If a bear gets after you in the mountains the bear is faster uphill compared to you because the bear has shorter front legs.

AND, I be the Bear Effect will increase your speed no matter your age.

Discussion: New ADStarr ball

Balls. Really not sure about softballs but the ones used in Vegas Nationals were HOT. They felt really soft on the outside but were rocket balls. If you made decent contact they were gone.

If this adstarr is better they would be fun to strike.

curveball- Most 70+ played against do not need the 11th man (imo).

75+ seems ok w/o the 11th player, played against some and watched some, not all though.

Now I do believe 80+ do need the 11th fielder.

We start out T-Ball and finally work our way back there. lol
