Discussion: DALTON, GA. TOURN. AND CAR RENTALS

mad dog: I don't think there is a short cut as to say but if you take I59 to Gadden and pick up US 411, it will take you across the mountain and tie into I75 right above Cartesville, GA which is about halfway between Atlanta & Dalton. A scenic drive but only about half of it is 4 lane. Actually when you get south of Rome, GA you can take GA 53 and it connects with I75 about 30 miles out of Dalton. There are some other routes but I slow and 2 lane roads.

JR- You might consider leaving Birmingham going up I-59 to Chattanooga and then down I-75 to Dalton. It keeps you out of Atlanta and its traffic.

I thought the rules required you to play at least one SPA tourney with your new team before you could play in the National. At least that is what Ridge told us a couple of years ago when he would not let us play with a team. Our team folded so we out in the cold as to say.

Discussion: Senior Geezer

Lefty: I had a Geezer and I felt it hit good after a couple of BP sessions but never felt like it had good distance.

I saw a Veteran senior bat on ebay today starting at $39.95 and buy it now for $99. She states used on time. Maybe at $39.95, may be a good deal!!!

Discussion: Update on 60/over team out of Bham, Al.

There is a new 50+ team out of Montgomery named the Swarm. I think the guy in charge is Don Howell. You may can contact Lagoon Park in Montgomery or some of the Montgomery senior players and get his phone #. They played in Pensacola last fall.

Dog88- were you in Pensacola? I think I met you several years ago playing 40/over ball. You gave me a ride in Anniston during the state tourney when my auto got stuck in the mud.

PlanoPlayer: Leo is a class guy and very good ball player. Leo, I was wearing the SPA board out also as you would have thought they would have updated the brackets with the rainout info and winners declaration.

Discussion: Winternationals Pensacola

There is a new 50+ team from the Montgomery area that will be playing in Pensacola (SPA). I watched them in Pensacola a few weeks in a practice tourney and they looked very good. They feel they can compete immediately. Didn't get the name of the team but they were certainly confident. It appears at this time to be one of the better Winternationals in recent years with over 40 teams. It's good to see a new team and maybe there will be more.

Discussion: Motels in Birmingham

JohnBob: If you still need some motels, email me at standingtall18@bellsouth.net and I will send you some names. The nearest exit to the Liberty P'way exit is U.S. Hyw. 280. There are about 8 to 10 motels on 280 near I-459. 280 is about 4 miles from Liberty P'way. However, the park is about 3 to 4 miles off of I-459.

Discussion: Montgomery, Alabama

jah4: The Mongtomery rec dept could care less if they ever had an adult tourney again. They prefer the girls fast pitch tourneys caused they can make more money. Lagoon Park built for adult softball and paid for by the tax money of adults who are ignored by the rec dept. A town the size of Montgomery with a large population of state gov'mt and air force retirees who could fill several senior teams in a senior league but the rec dept does not want to be bothered with the seniors. Don't move to Montgomery if you want to paly in a senior league. The senior guys who play
in a senior league either drive 85 miles north to Pelham or 90 miles east to Columbus, GA. It is pitiful. So managers don't expect any extra considerations this weekend.

Misty: I think the team you are referring to have played six tourneys with four firsts and two seconds. The same principle applies.
