John,
One player moves you up? How about your team's AAA record last year? This is insane. Who does this protect? How about tracking you guys for a tourney or two to see if the impact of ONE player is that great?

Discussion: What Define a Major Plus Player, a Major Player and a AAA player and Who rates Them

Bob,
Nobody had a problem with the team moving up. However, we had one player out of 15 who asked SSUSA to re-rate him to Major so he could join a AAA team. He had a good argument and the facts to back it up. But, BW #1 told us in no uncertain terms that our people were stuck at M+ for two years,no appeals. No facts, nothing; just no. What a chump!
Hope all is going well for you and good luck this season.
Andy,will do.
Also, the remarks I make do not reflect on the work of others in SSUSA. They have some wonderful people there(Dave ,Fran, tourney directors, umpires, etc.),it's the top two who are the problem. BW1 and BW2.

Guys,
Whether a player gets rated down is a figment of someones imagination(Terry's or George). I and one of my players submitted facts that he should not be rated M+. All we received were nasty replies from one of these benchwarmers. They're not overworked, they just don't care. They never let facts get in the way. It's a bush organization.
Thank you to all the SoCal(and one Nevada)teams who picked up my guys this year.
Andy, glad you're playing; you're one of the best.
Dennis ,I'm your witness to that monster HR you hit in Vegas.
Lastly, good luck to NCSSA and SoCalSSA. Maybe you two organizations can get together to have a REAL Cal State championship. You can support the players and get them on the field better then SSUSA.
Oh my, I think I broke two of the message board rules!

That's the bottom line, unless that team wants to move up to Majors. This rule , the California rule need to be looked at and changed. Too many guys are sitting because of these rules. Unfair to the individual players, benefits whom?

Capt. Kirk,
No. You can drop to a 60 major team. But,then that team has to live with the SSUSA threat of being moved up just for picking you up. Nothing about how that team does on the field. Teams are being threatened with a higher rating just for who they pick up(within the rules),not based on how they do on the field. This whole problem with my player could have been solved with a three minute phone call asking me what did this guy hit(avg.,640,errors counted as hits),how many HR(out of the park, none),games(he played in 42 out of 60)etc.,etc. For this he gets the TWO YEAR death sentence as a M+ player. Teams and players shouldn't be rated higher based on two mens opinions, but should play their way to the higher rating. My guy followed SSUSA guidelines to be re-rated and all he got was a nasty letter from SSUSA. I would be happy to foward the letter to anyone. It's a piece of work.

Jawood,
Thanks. It continues. There's 60 AAA team dropped down from Major this year who tried to pick up a guy who played 60AAA last year, but he played Majors 2 YEARS AGO could not join them or they would be moved back to 60Majors. This was not a team that dominated 60 majors and should have been re-rated AAA. Terry doesn't have clue when it comes to rating teams or players.

LP,He's rated as a Major+,can't drop down to AAA. He can go to Major(there are none in So Cal,to 55 AAA and above or stay M+(he's not a + player). Not a lot of options. Plus the letter from Terry was an insult to anyone with any brains. Totally classless. Thanks for the response.
P.S. Terry stated that not only could he not go down this year, but next year as well. I guess the moral is don't win.
it's a death sentence for this type of player.

I managed a 60 Major team last year in Southern California called Double Edge. We won the 60 major championship in Phoenix in October 2010. We were re-rated to M+ which was appropiate and expected. However, I had one player who requested to be re-rated to a Major level which would allow him to drop to a AAA team. He sent SSUSA a certified letter with the fact that he was not an impact player(backed up by managers he had played for and against). When he joined my team I told him up front he would bat at the bottom and be the first to sit. He played hard all year long and did his best for us,but he is at best a good AAA player. The letter he received from SSUSA was a denial of his re-rating and a attack on my entire team. Well, Terry and George maybe you should get you facts straight.
(1) The team broke up because their manager moved 350 miles away and no one else wanted to do that thankless job.It wasn't a sinister plan to circumvent your power. At the end of the Worlds, I had no less than 6 players who were hurt and might not have come back. But , I guess I was supposed to make the commute back to California to keep you two happy. Are you going to pay for the rooms and gas?
(2) Nobody else on that team asked to be re-rated. One guy out of 15. Did you ever call his manager, email? NO
We contacted you several times with no response, but you guys have no problem calling me to ask if I'll enter into one of your tourneys.
You screwed this guy, and most of the SoCal players know him and his ability.
I have a copy of your response to him and will be showing it to anyone I think will have an impact on your little, classless organization.
(3) They're are NO 60 Major teams in SoCal for this guy to join and the lone + team would never pick this player up.
Thanks for the Death Sentence to a player who just wants to play. Not at 55 or 55s but with his own age group.
You handled this terribly, thanks for nothing.

SSUSA doesn't care. Had an issue with them earlier this year, they never had the class or courtesy to respond to letters or emails. Pay and shut-up,that's their motto!

If a major team can add 4 M+ players and still stay major, why can't a AAA team add 1 or 2? Does anyone think finding teams for these guys is better than the M+ death sentence? If a team adds a player from a higher level and wins, move them up. More players on the field, more money SSUSA! Bottom line is get these guys on the field.

Curveball,
You are correct, they could play 60 Major. However, there are no 60 major or M+ teams in SoCal. The fine teams you mention have been re-rated AAA. Not many options for my guys. Still waiting to hear from SSUSA,hence the question where are they? SSUSA should be trying to get guys on the field. The M+ rating for the indivdual is a death sentence depending on whats available in your area. M+ guys can play down an age group to majors, but not AAA at their own age. I'd like to see my guys get a chance to play somewhere this year. Have a great year.

sjuhoops,
You couldn't have made a better case. Why should a player 67 have to play down to find a team? That's the situation my former players find them selves in. They can play 55 majors if they can find a team. They have no 60 option in SoCal. There should be a better way to keep players on the field and participating. Good luck,I'm sure we'll run into each other this season.

Harry,
Thanks,Pam and I love Mesquite,it's the small town we've always wanted to live in. No, I'm not with a team this year, although there are some fine teams in Vegas and St. George. We're still getting use to the area and will get back into tourney ball soon. After all I'm married to the best team mom/scorekeeper around. Hope you do well in Fla.,you have a place to stay if you ever come to the Spring Worlds in Mesquite. Good luck this year to NVF. John

I realize you are getting ready to go to Fla. for TOC,however I have a situation involving a player that despite snail mail and email you haven't responded. I have a player who is trying to find another team and has sent you information on why he should be dropped from Major+ to Major so he can find a AAA team to join in SoCal. There are currently no Major or M+ teams in SoCal,my former players have no teams to play on for the next season. I've moved to Nevada and have disbanded Double Edge Major+ 60s. With no teams to move to,could you please evaluate the situation for my former players and give them the opportunity to play somewhere this year? We've sent you letters and emails, how about a response? Also, you have somehow separated my profile from my homepage.

Gary/Dirty,
In Andy's defense, his manager is the one who used the CR for him. I don't
remember Andy asking off the base at anytime. It's not always the players decision to be CR'd. It's the rule and you're correct,it is taken advantage of
too often. When I make a lineup I consider who will be running in certain
situations. I think you're correct that the last out should be the runner.
It would be less wear and tear on guys
like DMAC. Change the rule. DMac's world records will stand forever.

Harry,
Congrats,we're still together. Just don't know what kind of schedule we're going to play this year. We're still working on TOC(short players),hope to make it and play against NVF. Great to see you in Phoenix. I guess the only plus of M+ is less competition. If we had gone to Vegas this week we would have been the only M+ team, gone 0-5 and still been the champs at M+. Go figure.
Hope to see you in Fla.,good luck to NVF this year.
