| Dec. 14, 2022 armiho211 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TORN MENICUS Thanks for the responses, will see the doctor in about 2 weeks, will see what the next step is...the doctor is a sports medical surgeon at the Carrell clinic in Dallas.... kinda late now, but over the years , i was always one of the faster guys on my teams (in my own mind)... and too many times i was called to replace a slow runner... no big deal, i never imagined i was destroying my knee.....lesson learned: dont volunteer, how are the slow runners ever get into shape if we keep running for them....IF the game is on the line, then, maybe, do it..... mad dog, i may have to join you in the rocking chair group..... nah...... i will keep going as long as i can.....once i get fixed up...... Let it be a warning to the boys that dont think it could happen to them.. be careful, the pain is terrible.... THANKS AGAIN, GUYS ! FRANK A. |
| Dec. 13, 2022 armiho211 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TORN MENICUS right knee hurting pretty bad, and for the last few months ,i survived playing games taking 800 mg ibuprofen , which felt pretty good, no pain... UNTIL it wore off.... finally had an MRI done, and the results are TORN MENICUS.. saw the doctor, he said to try the GEL and therapy to strengthen the muscle around the knee....have gone thru 5-6 sessions of therapy and it hurts to do some of the exercises...the therapy will not fix the problem, i am going to make another appt to see what the next step is....the gel was no help, i walk around like CHESTER from the Gunsmoke series....guess the next step is to try to clean up the tear area and see if that helps..............after that , ( gulp), knee replacement..... may have no choice... just curious if any of you guys have gone thru this and what did you do, and what was the end result.... any input of your experience will be greatly appreciated...... frank a, 80 and over player. |

| May 14, 2017 armiho211 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Lower back problems Guys, any of you boys have/had lower back problems that affects basically everything, even worse softball. ? it's gotten to the point that it is affecting my swing, bending over, etc.etc.etc.. I am taking one 800mg ibuprofen per day, I take them only during tournaments and no other time, but the rest of the time I suffer with the chronic pain... this has been going on for the last year, and it's getting old. apparently L-4, L-5 ARE INVOLVED..... YOU see the commercials on TV , where a guy is having back problems and cant move, he goes to the doctor, get a 1" incision in his back and then he is running around like a young guy, with no pain. SOMEHOW, I DONT BELIEVE IT. I HAVE HEARS ABOUT INJECTIONS INTO THE DAMAGED AREA, but this sounds scary as these would be temporary at best. I have not heard anything good of operational results where they cut to fix the problem... ANY INPUT BASED ON YOUR EXPERIENCE IF YOU ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ??? THANKS !!! |

During the game, players should drink a 1-3 cups of water between innings, even if you need to force yourself to do it. got extra players ? utilize them... most teams have 2-4 " fast runners " that are used to run for the slow players, HAVE MERCY ON THESE GUYS! Carry a water bottle in your bag, keep it filled in case the water container goes empty. Keep an eye out for your team-mates to see if they are developing any symptoms of heatstroke. common sense sometimes goes out the window during a game, look out for each other, especially the guys that dont want/like to sit.. temps in texas can/will get hotter in the coming months, plan accordingly.. |

Dan, i found a pair of welding glasses and bought them , will try them out at a practice. thanks ! there is a company called " LOCS ", they make " super darks" sunglasses, and they are really dark. i bought a pair, but i only use them when the early sun is right in your eyes and i am batting... they are too dark when out in the outfield. If you wear them too long, you will have trouble adjusting to normal light when you remove them... |
