Discussion: Remembering 9/11

Let's take a minute away from softball and remember what took place to our US 17 years ago today. The US as we knew it was changed forever on that day! Many innocent lives were lost, people just like us just going to work, police & firefighters who responded were among the nearly 3000 lives lost! Those of us that were in the Military, our lives were changed in the blink of en eye. Families had to watch as their loved ones were shipped off to a country most had never heard of before and are still being sent today. Lives are still being lost each day! Thanks to all who have served and are still serving today, military, police and firefighters! While we love our softball game, the 1-1 count; what type of ball or bat we use; what fields we play on, don't really mean that much compared to what some have lost!
Thanks,

Discussion: HOW LONG?

Tim, well said!!
I drove to the TOC from central CA, 6K RT. Enjoyed every mile! We have players from No CA & So CA who, depending on where we play, must drive 6 - 8 hrs to play the game! Self supporting team that has been together since we started as a 60 team, now playing 70's (could go to 75's next year, but won't). Yes, we have won, yes, we have lost, but we always enjoy playing the game, seeing each other again, having our families there enjoying the time together!

Discussion: Tournament Prizes

I donate all of my old shirts, hats, etc to the local VA home. Nothing like going back & seeing several "old" guys walking in tournament softball shirts!

JY30,
for the comment about TD's sitting around doing nothing but walk around every once in a while, please come join us at a tournament. You can get to the park 1st, usually before 630AM to get prime parking. Oh, that's after you stop to pickup ice for the coolers, that you have to fill & place around each field, then you have to re-fill them several times a day! A lot of times you are there until 10PM or later! But, because we have to sit to record scores, finish the seeding while 20 managers are standing are asking when they play or trying to post the seeding but you can't get thru to the board because the managers have already figured out the seeds, I guess we do sit sometimes! We also get to settle rule questions, arguments, being cussed at, or dirt kicked on you, etc. Fun!

But in spite of the long hours, etc, I do it because I enjoy the game, playing & being a TD!

Please, if you would like to join the TD group, I'm sure Fran would love to hear from you.

Thanks,

Win Downing,
Mgr Game On 70's & TD

2nd: JayCo/ISP

60/65/70 Gold Division

SSUSA’s first one day tournament & it was a great success! Rain stayed away - great softball complex - fields prepped between each game thanks to Brad & crew - Travis from City Rec dept had everything prepared & took care of every request - Ken Smith’s umpires adapted to SSUSA playing rules without a hitch - teams enjoyed the tournament & are excited about future tournaments in Boise! All this & we finished 30 minuets early!

Thanks again on behalf of SSUSA for making this a great tournament & making my job very easy!

Discussion: Stealing other teams Softballs

Dbax, ALL teams are given 6 balls for each tournament & if you play more than 6 games you are given a new ball for each game. Many teams like to have more than that & that's ok, but you have buy them. The gates between the fields at BLD that could be left open were open to allow teams to get HR balls. The balls that were returned to the table were put in a box for teams to get. Kudos to the maint guys who retrieved a lot of balls!!!
Agree 100% also about taking some other teams balls!!!

We, Game On, thought the fields were great, umpires were better than in many tournaments, bottled water in dugouts was great!

Wish I could say something good about the TD, but it was Mike! LOL Good job, Buddy!
