BJ, We were using balls that no longer had printing on them. Yes every once in a while you would hit one that was somewhat ok. But the majority of the balls were very old. 44-375 balls do not go splat in 60 degree weather unless they are very old. I hit Trump 44-375 balls in league every week and once a month in the Florida Half Century. These balls were worse than anything we hit all year long including in the hottest months of the year. 50 Major Plus or even 50 Major teams should never go an entire game without a home run. I'll just make sure to remind teams of how the people at the Villages think its funny to make teams play a tournament with year old balls. You talked to one player, I talked to a bunch of people who live in and play ball in the Villages and they said that they are sick of the crappy that they have to use. The same ones they use every day of the week that were used in the tournament. A three day tournament is an expensive proposition for players. If The Villages wants to be that insanely cheap, there is no reason to play there anymore.

Lefty, I heard that after hitting some of the balls in bp, both declined to participate. As far as Team 1, they easily had the most power of any team there and they did an excellent job of using the wind that was blowing out to right center. Their pitcher did an excellent job keeping their opponents from doing the same. I can assure you that none of the 50 Gold teams were happy with the balls. In fact not a single person I spoke to was. And I asked a lot of teams. We will just have to hope whoever runs it next year will allow decent balls to be provided. The idea that such a great tournament would be played with balls that had been used all year by the rec league is a joke.

A great deal of people skipped the home run derby for the same reason EVERYONE was upset at this years tournament.
The derby and the tournament were played with the used rec league balls that some didn't even have printing on anymore. Hank Garris one of the greatest hitters ever in the game hit 4 barely and 1 bomb to win the derby. One of balls used in the Miami Power Team 1 losers bracket final actually had a broken core. I bounced it on the sidewalk and it went sideways. When you hit a 44-375 ball in the early morning with high 50's temps it should sound like a cannon going off not like a wet sponge. Anyone associated with running this tournament should be totally ashamed, embarrassed and called out for being so cheap and or clueless.

Discussion: the new bat "Nightmare"

I'll say this about my dealing with Kevin aka Tattooball.
I was fortunate enough to get one of the first production Nightmare bats. When I got the bat I told Kevin that after the break in process I would make a video review.
Kevin told me the following.... if you roll the bat it will break right away and whatever your opinion of the bat is, be 100% honest. Good or bad. He insisted that I be totally honest in my review even if I hated the bat. What I learned about the Nightmare is that it is a stiff feeling bat that performs very well even when it "feels" like you missed the "sweet spot". I am definitely a bat breaker. Bats that don't break right away like the Legit will get too soft to perform for me. My Nightmare lasted me 1100 very happy swings. An Ultra 2 pc 200, Reebok 275, Legit 300 too soft. Is the Nightmare for everyone? No way. Some people won't be able to handle the big end load. Some won't like the stiff feel. Some people simply won't like Kevin LOL. Me personally, I am thrilled and I hope to shoot some more video tomorrow morning with my second Nightmare. My youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiacdL27kS55sZDHZMyVD2EIoWWzWgAe2

TerryN you are welcome.
The Blue Flame I am using is about 3 years old.
It is extremely adjustable and is currently set to throw a 12' arc. As its names implies [UPM45] it pitches to 45 mph. The Black Flame machine UPM60 throws up to 60mph.
You can quite easily dial in whatever arc you want and it is very consistent. The only variable being the weight of each ball.

This bat is the real deal. Those of you that know me know I have swung just about every bat out there. My favorite bat is now the AD Starr Nightmare. I have 750 swings on it and it is amazing. In fact I have ordered a second one already.

Discussion: Hitting

some great points in this thread
1. Practice with purpose!
2. Limit your rounds to 20-30 swings.
I think it is difficult to stay focused for more than 25 or so swings a round.
3. Hit at targets in the infield. Five gallon buckets make great targets and help you keep the ball down. In the game the confidence soars when you have "practiced with purpose!"

Discussion: Worth legit

Paco, if the end cap is just the really thin part of the end cap..... that happened to one of mine as well. I used Loctite marine epoxy on 7 Legit handles with no issues. BUT, when I tried it on the end cap [twice] it did not hold. Worth informed me that because I had tried to fix it myself that they would not fix it for me. So before you try to epoxy it, call Worth. Good luck.

Discussion: Worth legit

One thing not mentioned in this discussion is playing conditions and how much easier it is to hit the home runs at altitude. Dry conditions and altitude add up to huge home run numbers. In the southeast, with heat indexes in triple digits and high humidity it is a little more difficult. While for some of us it is still pretty easy, for most it is not. As far as USSSA goes the major division limit is 16 and the A division is 12. If you want to insist on run limits and home run limits the current number needs to be higher in Plus. I think maybe the problem is trying to make the rules equal with vastly different playing conditions across the country.

Discussion: Worth legit

I think the Legit is the best of the 3. The Legit is a fantastic bat in distance, feel and durability. The Barrage, Melee or Ultra 2 Maxload 2 piece for for EL.
The Big Cat 2 Piece Ultra for a 1 oz end load is fantastic.
The Legit is very easy to hit with being balanced and to me does not sacrifice distance. The end loads are great but harder to swing if you are tired.

I rate both of these equal in distance and give the edge to the Worth in durability and without question the Worth in feel.

The Legit is the best balanced Senior bat I have ever hit.
The Ultra 2 Maxload is a fantastic bat with a 1/2 oz endload. Either of these two is a great choice.

Topic: Rules of the game
Discussion: 2 Rules that are somewhat unclear

5.5(3) • MERCY RULE FOR 50+ THRU 70+ MAJOR-PLUS (ONLY)
If a team is ahead by 15 or more runs at any time after five innings have
been completed, or four and one-half innings with the home team ahead,
the game shall be declared a complete regulation game.

AT ANY TIME would mean that the visitors ahead by 15 in the top of the 6th...... game over. MAKES NO SENSE.

5.4(2) • INTERNATIONAL TIE-BREAKER RULE
Teams start each half-inning with a runner on second base. The runner is the
last batter of the previous inning whose turn at bat had been completed,
assuming a position on second base. No substitute or courtesy runner may
replace him until he has reached third base. EFFECT: If the last batter of the
previous inning cannot continue to play because of injury, illness, etc., he will
be declared out and the next previous batter will be the tie-breaker runner.

If the open inning ends in a tie..... are the extra innings open or subject to the 5/7 run limit? The rule states that the last inning of the game is open. Does that rule carry over to extra innings?

Clean Up, as is often the case the last Barrage that was being tested was purchased by someone who wanted a bat that was game ready. Team 1 Sports will be playing for the 5th time this year on Saturday and we have been spending a lot of time hitting with our Mikens.

Discussion: Barrage or Legit

Lefty,
They are both in my top 3.
I have always been an end load swinger.....
but the Legit is so forgiving and so much easier
to swing if you have to hit that tough 15 footer :-)
There is only one down side to the Legit. You have
to buy epoxy for the knob when it comes off.
Either way you will not go wrong.

DieselDan, he meant
The Reebok Barrage
The Miken Ultra2 two piece
The Combat Ambush
The Triad Blackout takes a long time break in and would not be a good choice for a base hitter.
