May 4, 2026 berger	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: This is a new one!!! Bob21, my apology for the umpire's enforcement of something that is not part of SSUSA's "Section 5" rule. The women's division was at a different park for the entire weekend (which is where I was), so I was not at Black Bob. Nonetheless, based on the information I was able to gather from the assistant director in charge of the 60's men's division at Black Bob Park, he was not asked, called, or informed of the action arbitrarily and erroneously implemented in that game. So I can only assume that even if I had been at Black Bob Park, I would have not been asked for any help either--unless "maybe" one of us had been physically watching that specific game. Based on your report above, the game's end result does not appear to have been affected, BUT...that does not allow the umpire to make up and enforce his own rules. So again, MY APOLOGY...thanks for making us aware.

ALL schedules have been shared with the managers. On the other hand, if you're looking for the schedules to be posted on the Wes Weddle page of SSUSA's site, all I can tell you is that the list of participating teams has already been sent to SSUSA, along with the brackets (both pool play and elimination).

Sept. 18, 2025 berger	Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 75 aaa brackets No one, specifically SSUSA management and ALL those California teams, will want to play the World Championships anywhere but Las Vegas, but the quality of the fields in Vegas are so bad compared to the complexes in the Kansas City area. And yes, there are enough quality KC complexes / fields to accommodate all the divisions / teams. Not to mention, wouldn't it make more sense for all those East Coast teams to only have to travel to KC instead of Vegas. BUT AGAIN, who's going to want play in KC versus Vegas ????. Oh wait, Worlds is about playing ball, isn't it....not gambling!

We will be working on trying to compress our already-overbooked teams into game schedules later today and tomorrow.

The source could be from some some team, or teams, who were unable to enter the tournament "because we are full" (no room available for any additional teams). But no, the tournament has NOT been cancelled...just the contrary.

July 22, 2021 berger	Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Midwest Championships Rogers, AR First, I agree with each of you....the Midwest Championships should (needs to) come back to KC. But, being from the KC area, I "could be" a bit biased. 😊 2nd, creins, there were 4 Arkansas teams "listed" this year. But you are correct on the fact that no team from TN participated. Additionally, the info below does not list a team from TN either - even when the tournament was in KC. Now, a team, or two, from TN could have participated in any one of the non-listed years. Just some figures: 2009 at Mid-America in Shawnee, KS (58 total teams): IL - 15 teams; MI - 11; WI - 11; IN - 5; MO - 5; 3 each from KY, MN and OH; and 1 each from IA and KS 2013 at Mid-America in Shawnee, KS (57 teams): MO - 17 teams; IA - 7; KS - 6; 5 each from MN, IL, and CO; 4 from NE & AR; 2 from WI and 1 each from MI & OK 2016 - 1st year in AR (46 total teams): MO - 16 teams; 5 each from IL, KS, and AR; 4 from OK & NE; IA - 3; and 2 each from TX & MN 2021 - Rogers, AR (37 total teams): MO - 15 teams; TX - 7; OK - 5; 4 each from KS & AR; NE - 2 0 teams anymore from IL, MI, WI, IN, KY, MN, OH, IA, or CO 1 positive note.....the number of teams from TX & OK have increased.

Dec. 2, 2020 berger	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Senior League Play with Pitcher using a SCREEN Spider9188, our league in the Kansas City area has used the pitching screen for at least 6 years now. Here are our rules: PITCHING SCREEN. All teams must use the screen. It’s also recommended that pitchers wear protective gear (mask, shin guards and chest protector). 1. The screen will directly face home plate within three to six feet in front of the pitching rubber. 2. The screen must cover a minimum eight inches (i.e., one third) of the width of the pitching rubber. 3. The pitcher cannot “hide” behind the screen and pitch over it; the batter must be able to see the pitched ball, without the screen being in the way, from its release all the way to the strike mat. 4. Any batted ball striking any portion of the screen as observed by the umpire will be declared a dead ball and foul ball. A batter can use up his courtesy foul by hitting the screen but cannot foul out by hitting it. Thrown balls are in play. 5. The screen must be placed to the left of a right-handed pitcher, and to the right of a left-handed pitcher to maximize the pitcher’s safety. 6. Any pitch delivered with the screen not in a legal position will be declared “no pitch.” If a pitcher refuses to place the screen in the correct position, the umpire will notify the player’s manager and remove the pitcher from pitching. If a team’s second pitcher does the same, he will be ejected.
Sept. 18, 2020 berger	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 2020 LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters Game Results!! Kudos to LVSSA/SSUSA and whomever is personally responsible, so far, for actually posting the game results of the 2020 LVSSA/SSUSA WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS. Very nice.
