JLD930, I guess I'll have to take some of the blame for you getting moved up.....since I did mention your team's name in my July 24th message above. However, doing as well as Master Collision has done over the past 2 years, it makes more sense you being there than the KC Kids being rated Major+. Guess we my be seeing you again then, going forward.......if we stay together after this season, and continue to play SSUSA tournaments.

JonnBob, we play the SPA Eisenhower Mid-American Natinals this coming weekend.....which is when we plan to discuss the future of the KC Kids (short-term, and also long-term). The St. Louis tournament was on our 2011 tournament schedule, but the news of us being bumped to Major+ has sent shockwaves through our team --- to the extent that this coming weekend's tournament may be out last.

Hey Brock, if you, or anyone you talk to, ever figure it out (i.e., why / how the Kids were, justifiably, moved up), please let all of us know. Other than Al33 (who posted above), and those who oviously made this decision, I have yet to find anyone who has the answer.

You are correct bbullett (unless I'm missing something). If you look at the 5 teams -- on http://seniorsoftball.com/wc/wc2011/TOC-Invites-2012.pdf -- that have already qualified for the 2012 TOC (other than your KC Kids team)........

Double LL Roofing (FL) • [SNC]
Master Collision (CO) • [SWC]
Northern Virginia Force • [WNC]
Robson.com (AZ) • [SW]
SGC Runner Blue (UT) • [WWC]

......I don't see any of them already listed as Major+, or having been bumped up to Major+ as a result of this recent rerating update.

Discussion: Can we make this a PHX Worlds Score thread?? Post results here

To Andy, and everyone on Double Edge. Yes, we had been scoring a few runs in our games (prior to our championship game with you).....averaging 29 per game. Guess we should have saved a few of them for you guys, huh. I'm sorry we couldn't give you guys a better game. I honestly feel there were a few factors that played into our letdown. It seems as though we were setting goals for ourselves throughout the double-elimination portion of the tournament. Palm Springs Heat had beaten us in pool play....we had the opportunity to play them again in double-elim, and beat them. Minnesota Prize had beaten us earlier in the year at another tournament, so we wanted to take care of them, and did so when we met them in double-elim also. We played Bay State Bombers in the very 1st game of the double-elimination portion of this tournament. They are the ones that set the stage for our long treck by putting us in the loser's bracket in that very 1st game....so we wanted to avenge that loss, which we did. Then we had our sites set on Master Collision, because they double-dipped us back in the Rock-n-Reno tournament's championship games earler this year.....that mission was accomplished. At that point we had just finished our 4th back-to-back game on Sunday, and the championship lay ahead of us. I honestly feel my guys had been "getting up" for each-and-every game up to that point, and had simply given all they had to get there. They had climbed one mountain after another (playing a total of 10 games up to that point), and as much as we all wanted to win 2 more, it was just too much for them to make it through another game. We simply ran out of gas!!!! Sorry.

All this being said, however, I do not want to take anything away from the way you guys played. You are very strong defensively (I feel you played GREAT fundamental ball).....and played "smart" defense. We got only a couple of balls past your pitcher, nothing past your 3rd baseman, etc. You are also solid offensively. I simply wish we could have given you better competition.

Congratulations !!!!!.....and good luck in the Major+, if you guys stay together and go that route.

Discussion: ISA Gallatin TN

Sorry but I can't accept the fact that the flooding a few months back had anything to do with the current condition of the Triple Creek fields in Gallatin. If anyone stayed around and got soaked -- as I did Saturday night (instead of hustling to the car before the rain started) they were able to see the primary problem with those fields. They were "horribly" designed/built. As I walked out of the park after that downpour (grateful that I hadn't gotten struck by the numerous lightning bolts that afternoon) both the infields, AND OUTFIELDS, were under about 2-3 inches of water. The ONLY parts of the outfields that were not under water, were the places where the "very few patches" of grass were growing. That was a clear indicator to me as to why there was so little grass out there.....because grass in any of the other parts of the outfields had no chance to grow. Any rain on those fields puts the other parts of the outfields under water (thus drowning out any grass seed, etc., attempting to grow). The land where the fences were located were at a higher elevation than the rest of the field......the water had no place to drain. So it just sat there -- drowning out any grass attempting to grow. It's hard to believe someone "just recently" designed, and built, those fields to those specifications. Those fields are NOT worthy of hosting a National Championship tournament !!!!! No warning tracks in the outfield either.

Sorry, but the KC Kids had to drop from the tournament as of yesteday. We were down to the bare minimum of players going to begin with -- since 4 of our player did not want to take off work, or could not get time off to travel on Wed., and then play Thurs. & Fri. Saturday, obvoiusly, was not a issue. Anyway, over this past weekend we had another 3 players drop (due to various reasons -- death in family, etc.).

Majority of our players have played in this tournament in the past, and know how good it is, and really wanted to be there, but it would have "pretty much" been a waste of time, and money, for us to show up with a skeleton crew. Sorry.

Discussion: 60 Major Division

Sorry to burst your bubble Jyoji, but the KC Kids have never been Major +. I’m the originator of the team, and if you look at SSUSA’s Ratings page, you will see that we’ve only been in existence since March of 2008……and we've been a Major team since conception.

I guess I also need to apologize to you (based on your disgust), that I continue to attempt to improve the team. We were a 55+ team until this year – i.e., this is our first year playing 60+. Yes, it happens, we’re getting older also.

And yes, I did pick up some players from last year’s KC Bombers team -- for this year’s KC Kids 60+ team. The Bombers began playing, last year, as a 60 Major+ team, but did so poorly that by mid-year they were allowed to drop back down to Major……and as a result of their continual down-slide throughout the remainder of the year, were no longer in existence by the end of 2009. So, I can only imagine that your contention of labeling us as a Major+ is based on a few of those players being with us……I don’t know. It does make me wonder, however, that if you, or someone on your team, recognized those few players being on our team, does that mean that you, or one of your guys, may have played on a Major+ team against them last year…????

Discussion: friday play

This is not only a SSUSA issue. It's across the board for 60's. Our team just went 60 this year also. Never had such extensive Friday play until this year.

We've got our schedule figured. 12 total tournaments: 5 with SSUSA (3 of them 3-day tournaments). 5 with SPA (3 of them 3-day tournaments). 1 ISA -- a 3-day tourney. 1 LVSSA -- a 3-day tourney. Not all of these 3-day tournaments are Fri-Sun. 1 is Thurs-Sat, and 1 is Sat-Mon.

So, 9 out of our 12 this year are 3-day tournaments. Last year, when we played 55, we also played 12 tournaments.....with most of them being the same tournaments as the ones we're entering this year. 3 of them, last year, were Fri-Sun tournaments.

#6, I also definitely agree with you. 70% of our players still work.....which means players have to take vacation to go to these 3-day tourneys.

And "oldbie", I also agree with you, I think more players' wives would be able to accompany the players if more of the tournaments were Sat-Sun only.

Not to mention, more players themselves would be able to go. I am carrying more players on my roster this year -- mainly because I already know a number of them can not play all of those 3-day tournaments. And what do you think it does for me, as manager, having to try to be at all of them.

smooth01, couldn't agree with you more....especially when the only other SSUSA tournament going on that weekend is the Western Nationals -- that appears to have been moved to Lacy, WA this year (from Salt Lake City last year). Having the Western Nationals in the very Northwest corner of the US doesn't make a lot of sense either, but KC is more "midwest" than Champaign (for any sort of Midwest Regional, or Championship, tournament). There is a SPA tournament in Columbus, OH July 15-18.
