Discussion: Playing without an ACL ligament

I had knee replacement and the ACL is typically removed as part of that surgery, at least mine was.

I'm not sure how a knee replacement differs from your situation. I continue to run the bases and wear no brace.I do run more slowly though.

Discussion: Miken Pro Series Glove

I think I will like the glove. It is not 70% game ready, as touted. I'll need to keep working it a few more weeks before I would us it in a game. I have a former teammate who bought a Player series, not the Pro series ... he says the Player series was almost game ready.

The leather on the Player series has a different look from leather on my Pro series

Thanks for the feedback on the glove. I went ahead an ordered it and I'm anxious to get it. Bad weather has apparently slowed delivery.

Discussion: BP swings

When I get a new bat, I take it to the field with a bucket of balls and then throw it up and hit it into the backstop, I do count and target 75 to 100 hits to start the break in process. I've read with new bats that you should not initially take full swings. After that, I just kind of estimate. The leagues I play in let us get BP prior to a game, so it is BP swings plus game swings

Might be over kill but that is my answer to the "count" question

Discussion: 2 pc vrs 1 pc

Currently, it seems as if 2pc bats outnumber 1 pc bats about 80% to 20%. I don't know if it is peculiar to my bats or my swing, but, over the years, I hit consistently better with my 1 pc over my 2 pc bats. Some of the longest hits have been with 2 pc, but for me, the 2 pc do not produce as consistently.

I continue to think that 1 pc bats have a larger sweet spot and that may be a contributing factor in the better performance that I get from 1 pc bats.

Do others have an opinion on this?

Discussion: Pickup BP in San Diego?

Tim,

I would have an interest ... but it definitely appears that I would be the old guy at 70. Can you give me info about the location of the field?

Discussion: Pickup BP in San Diego?

I play senior ball in the SF Bay Area ... two leagues and a pickup BP each week. I'm 70 years old.

We will be vacationing in San Diego in mid August and I don't like to miss an entire week. Are there any senior drop in BP sessions going on in SD? Ideal would be near Ocean Beach where we are staying. I've noticed fields on the way into OB in the past.

Discussion: knob cuff advocates

I now have a knobcuff on all of my bats and feel that my hitting has improved since .... I now can drop a pinky comfortably ... but I think that the real difference maker is that I now grip the bat with my fingers and do not bury the handle in my palms.

Different players used to coach me to line up my knocker knuckles. When I tried to line them up without holding the bat in my fingers and burying the bat in my palms, it was not a happening thing. Lining up the knocker knuckles is quite natural when holding the bat handle in the fingers.

Then, using the knob cuff to facilitate "dropping a pinky" also becomes natural ... the combination of a "fingers grip" and "dropping a pinky" has improved my hitting

Ditto on the Senior Gear ... I'm currently using mine over my 2 pc Ultra II. I just seem to hit better with it. At $99, it's tempting to buy one as a back up.
