Dbax,
"Customers that fronted their money should have their bats in 11 years. 9 with good behavior"

This is a sad situation all the way around. But thanks for providing some humor, I really needed that. And as they say, damn that's funny right there.

Discussion: Speed up rules

NYGNYY,
1 & 1 doesn't help the pitchers, 0-0 actually give the pitchers more to work with, and time for the batter to get more antsy about hitting a pitch.

IMO, 1-1 does speed up the game based on possible pitches thrown.

Discussion: Colin Kaepernick

This is not a new issue, it's not like Colin Kaepernick has suddenly alerted America to a problem. All he has done is draw attention to himself....in the wrong way. Parcells, Belechick, or Coughlin would have cut him the next day.

He's a cancer to his team, boo his arse everytime he hits the field. Such a lack of respect and professionalism. Really bush...

Excellent umpiring, especially with the overturned calls. Congrats USA!

Discussion: Little League World Series

Well guys, let's call it was it is....most of the home plate umpiring has been terrible and inconsistent. Who I feel bad for is the coaches and kids who have put in hours of practice and preparation, only to have a kid strike out on a ball 4-6 inches out of the zone, routinely.

These umps are better than that, they have been directed to call it that way and especially for the kids, it's very frustrating.

I'd be telling my players hey, we are getting inconsistency by the home plate umpire who obviously can't find the strike zone. Don't be picky, aggressively hit the first good pitch you see.

It's probably the worst umpiring behind the plate I ever recall...

Diesel Dan,
Honestly I'd quit throwing backspin every pitch. It's harder to locate, and truly height, location, and batter tendencies are the priority here. I occasionally use it mainly for a change in speed, but that's it. 2 strikes, pull hitter, yeah probably going to get high inside backspin pitch. But that's it...

DOLFAN and Others,
There are far more shaved bats in Senior Softball than anyone really wants to know. I agree with you. No different than the young guns. Pitched for a lot of years, and you know that sound....or lack of it for those who know what I mean. It extends to all levels of play. It's just a fact of life, another obstacle to overcome.

There's too much money at stake for it to ever change.

Wood, the softball community thanks you for the post. This has been a duck for a long time...a duck that is now visible for all to see. You can run but not hide from the truth. And the truth is, this is just sickening.

Discussion: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RULING • WMC 50-Major Matter

It's not too far fetched to get different answers from different people especially when it comes to rules. I went to play in a National, and the same player I had asked **** to get added to my roster to play, ended up playing for Florida Automated Shade for it's multiple winner of the same rated National Championship without being bumped up. So I was more than a little surprised.... But ***** from SSUSA told me no (we had an injury to OF and SS) only to have ***** from SSUSA tell Florida Automated Shade yes. Strange to be sure, and it's something I couldn't explain to my team. If you play in a lot of SSUSA tournaments, your bound to have some familiarity with the SSUSA group. So you might get some different answers. Of course we won that tournament, so I never asked for any reason why. But if you play long enough, you are going to see some non-understandable situations. Agreed, Tim may have not gone about it the right way, but I might be asking the tournament director the same question at the field. So how does that happen?

Do I believe somebody should pick up be able to pick up players for a National 5 days for a tournament? Clearly NO, unless you have dropped below 11 players and that's what I was told.

But after all, "Managers must APPLY to SSUSA for approval of these players in writing. These players are approved or denied on an individual basis."

It isn't egos, or some cheap piece of wood if you win, it's about the CASH expended to get there, that's the issue! And therein lies the rub.....

Webbie, If safety of the players is truly an issue, then removing the rubber would be an issue. A removable rubber, I like it. (No jokes please, OK, I'm laughing myself).

Actually it is a good idea as that's how I've seen most injuries on the mound occur. Phasing them in makes a lot of sense, and the construction is easy to imagine.

Discussion: Why have the mat?

I think the mat makes the game easier for the umpires and the players, it hits the mat, it's a strike (as long as it's not 10 ft or more)...Yeah, I know it's 12 ft in SS, but it doesn't get called much except by the real veteran umpires. But there is one pitch that doesn't get noticed much where the mat helps, and that's the inside deep corner of the mat, it actually doesn't even have to cross the plate at all. I've got a lot of guys that let that pitch go, and when they hear the umpire yell strike, you know the next one's going to be 4 inches inside and close to the same area... If you just fouled out, you probably got that pitch.

But the mat has actually helped the offensive side of the ball more, as batters now protect that front part of the plate....aggressively.

Course there's always Dave, and I have never found out where to pitch him, guys marvel about his swing, and it's truly a killer, but his real secret I think is his position in the box....and with the mat, that's where it all starts, IMO.

Discussion: SCREENS IN TOURNAMENTS

I live in Florida, I pitch, and I hate the screens. First, they are a PITA, another piece of equipment to plop in the field and get in the way. The double play eliminator is what it should be called. Another piece of crap to block that throw to home from the middle part of the outfield and cost you the game. It happens every tournament, every weekend.

Have I been hit? Of course, everywhere, multiple times. Do some guys target the pitcher? Of course, I've got two or three that do it routinely, it's their way of trying to get a hit and we all know it.

But do I want to don a hockey mask to go play softball? Do I want to hide behind the double play eliminator? Nope, I just want to play softball....and leave the masks and screens behind.

Now someone is going to tell me the story about so-n-so got hit, and if the mask or the screen.... Look guys were getting hit with the old double walls, guys were getting hit with the Easton, guys are going to get hit on the mound, you think it didn't hurt then??? It's part of the game, just like double plays up the middle used to kill an inning, but thankfully we have the screen there now to make sure that doesn't happen anymore. And the mask to protect us because no one is going to hit up the middle if we are wearing the mask, right. Yeah, right....that thought process worked out well.

Truthfully, it's hurt the integrity of the game, and I miss it. You ripped it out without even a vote....and that's the facts. Your fear of lawsuits eclipsed your reason and respect for the game. Damn shame...
