Full Monty,
I don't doubt it. But without proper lighting (which you should know to be true at some of those fields), dark is dark and unsafe. And the blinding sunlight for some of those fields (which you should also know to be true), it's unsafe.

That's my only point, unsafe conditions at any field warrant quick action by the umpires and TD. Or there is frustration and possibility for injury and temper eruption.

A pot of water on the stove is not harmful. But turn the burner on High, and it's going to boil over. And so it did apparently....

Well softballnuts, I'm sorry playing in unsafe conditions is not acceptable at anytime, especially at the cost and level of play here.

This isn't the grocery store league where everyone chipped in 20 buck for the year, and it isn't the talent level you see in league play......

Guys can get seriously hurt with the level of play by teams at those Nationals.

Are the players involved to blame for their actions? Yes. But the player behavior is only the symptom. So we suspended the symptoms, and my guess is NOTHING happend to the root cause of the incident. And that's where the focus should be what was the root cause?

Same thing that's caused other problems....the poor field conditions should have been handled by the TD and the umpires long before a player has to say enough is enough and walk off because the TD and umpires didn't do their job.

There is way too much focus on the player behavior here.....and the same TD and umps will be there next year.

This is always a problem in Vegas. Playing with bad fields that are not safe, playing in low or no light conditions. Our last Vegas tournament we played where the outfield could not see a routine fly ball it was so dark. It was a joke....and honestly, I don't blame those guys for complaining.

The umpire stories that come out of the Vegas tournaments are always hilarious...and sad at the same time.

I thought the SSUSA tournament year began in November so that would require a 2014 card.....

Discussion: 3 Game Guarantee

titanhd, You are right, it won't happen if you play 3 seeding games. But aren't seeding games really like playing in the back yard? Let's see, drive 400 miles with a $500+ entry fee to play 3 backyard meaningless games? Been there, done that, got the picture from the rodeo.

Many discussions on this here missouridave, it shouldn't happen, but with the format provided, it does. It does because it is mathematically possible. What becomes a double elimination for some (win 2 or win 1 of 2) becomes a triple elimination for others (lose first 2). That's right, there is a reward for losing the first two.....try explaining that to guys who come back to softball after a long hiatus.

I and others wish this would be solved once and for all. It's not hard, go to a four game guarantee...problem never happens again.

Discussion: Texas State Championships - How were the fields and other Facilities?

Sounds like you guys had some significant problems for this to be a Championship tournament at $500+ a pop.

My question is this, what happens to the TD who used a non-SSA size mat and also failed to assure the fields were in good playing shape?

Refund?
Never an SSUSA TD again?
Letter to the local rec department about the poor performance?
???

There is also a place we hit indoors at www.hit-n-run.net which is just off I-4 in Sanford. Really good facility, a slow pitch pitching machine, the whole team gets a lot of swings in just one hour.

It's a must stop for us when playing in Altamonte...

Sparky,
Old School softball isn't dead at all, there are still a lot of "old school" type players and teams. I applaud you giving back to the game, and 10K is no small amount, and you should find a team to sponsor.

I don't think the chatter here should discourage you at all, the only difference between then and now is back then, many times peoples real opinions or agendas were discussed in private, sometimes to the detriment. Now the opinions and the background chatter are public for all to see in a forum like this....and that's a good thing.

Don't let it discourage you, take it with a grain of salt.

Pricer,
I agree with you 100%. I sponsor a team and I'm just an 8-5 working stiff. 10K can't come close to buying team chemistry that's developed from hours of playing together and succeeding together.

I sponsor a team and I'm just a regular working stiff 8-5 each day, but 10K with a problem player just isn't worth it.

Discussion: Time to change the format of the board

bkb555,
Signing on each time is not a big deal at all and it is the correct system design for any message board or social exchange. It's a 2-5 second task at most. And it is by far not the only site designed like this. Most sites are like this requiring signon.

Products like Norton Vault can be helpful if you have many login accounts to manage. Good suggestion ShaneV.

Discussion: Travel Discounts

Mad Dog is right, bidding on priceline.com is a good way to save money. We average about 40-55 for Doubletree, Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, and more...

Try biddingfortravel.yuku.com to find out what some of the recent bids were for your particular hotel. It is non-refundable, but if you wait till the week you travel, you'll have good luck.

surf88 (Ed),
We all follow the board and the peripheral discussions away from the clay, it's become a part of the game( thanks SSUSA). And we have all certainly followed the GSC and pre-GSC threads regarding this discussion with warranted skepticism.

Well I must say, for the first time in this thread of multi year discussions, I believe you that there will be a bat produced. And me, I'm usually a doubting Thomas by nature, but somehow your words just seem to resonate truth. Best of luck...

Alan,
Prayers sent from the Florida Classics. I've been there as I had a triple bypass myself a couple of years ago. All the best to Roger....
