Discussion: To rotate or not to rotate ?

Saw a composite bat that was only hit on one side and it cracked. However the crack is on the other side of the barrel from where the hitting area is. Why would that be ?

Discussion: To rotate or not to rotate ?

My grandson is playing high school baseball. He uses a Mattingly bat which has a V-grip and only allows the player to hit on one side of the bat. Talking to his coach and a rep from the bat company that was there the topic came up about rotating the bat. The coach and the rep told me that rotating a composite bat is only a myth and that bat engineers will tell you that you do not have to rotate a bat since the impact is spread across the barrel and rotating will not affect it. Baseball or softball the same is true. So I ask you bat guys if you agree with this. The rep had a valid point in that Mattingly bats are composite softball, baseball and alloy baseball and they have no issues with this concept of hitting on the same side. What say you…..?

Discussion: talking frog.......

Playing in center field, senior softball 75 +, the fielder is set up deep and back by the fence. All of a sudden he hears a voice calling him. Thinking it was just another senior moment he ignores the voice. Again he hears the voice and starts to look around. There in the grass is a frog, talking to him. “pick me up and kiss me and I will become a beautiful young bride” says the frog.
The old ball player thinks about it, then picks the frog up and puts it in his pocket…..”did you not hear me, kiss me and I will become a beautiful young bride”…..”I heard ya, say’s the old player, at my age I would rather have a talking frog”

hit wood bats this weekend at practice. ok for baseball but in softball it is a joke. Talk is there are not enought teams for the league to start and I can see why. Cannot wait to get back senior softball with U2 type bats.

Discussion: Why does the ball knuckle

Thanks for the info guys. We have some hard hitters in our league and one guy that hits super hard. This helps understand why we see the ball kuckle when he hits (those that say in the park).

Discussion: MM COMBAT

My son talked to the BLD director late yesterday and they are imforming all the umps to look for the USSSA APROVED 1.20 on every bat. If the bat does not have it the player might get kicked out of the league (ump talk).

so the hit ball is the same as a knuckle ball pitch ? the ball is hit so hard that it does not rotate ?

You ball & bat gurus. Why does a hard hit line drive sometimes move like a knuckle ball while in the air. Seems to only happen with hard it line drives.

Discussion: MM COMBAT

My son tells me that all BLD fields are USSSA and the umps sometimes get the 1.20 for senior softball and the 1.20 for USSSA mixed up. The official answer is USSSA 1.20 so the MM bat is not legal (my son is both a player at BLD and a ump).

Discussion: Worth 510 Launch - Old or New?

In fairness to Worth it is not true that all senior bats crack. A team member had a new yellow senior Combat that cracked in less than 30 hits, another a U2 that did not last but 50, another gray senior Combat that lost the end cap in only two weeks. On the other hand my friend has a 510 that is almost a year old, another yellow Combat that is very old and doing well. We have a few of the new Boombah senior bats that are holding up and one that has cracked. The point is these bats seem to be all over the board and depending on player, balls, weather and who knows. I am only guessing but it seems to be the price we pay for senior bats overall. I think all the bat companies are doing a good job with what they have do to please our lust for the long ball.

My understanding is they are going to use a 47/525 11" ball. In terms of the bat I know somebody that has access to MLB type wood bats with that new knob design.

There is a slowpitch wood bat league starting up this fall. I would even think of playing against young guys with composite bats but in wood I think it would be safe. Any of you ever use wood bats in softball and I am I going to hate it and just pop out every time up ? Your thoughts.....

Discussion: New bat - one piece or two ??

the two senior bats I have are one piece. I need another bat for a league that is I think USSA or ASA, not sure. So I wondered if a two piece bat gives better performace at the lower levels of play. It seems they do not. I tried the Geezer but it did not fit me well. I like the U2 but have a hard time with bad wrist. thank you all for your help.

Discussion: Batting gloves for hot weather

Thanks guys, good advice. I was told that batting gloves made of goatskin are good in hot weather. Got a pair yesterday and used them today and true to fact they work great. Plus they are thin and grip well. Thanks again for the help.

Discussion: Batting gloves for hot weather

Can anyone tell me the best batting glove to use in very hot weather. I got a leather pair from Nike and they are soaked by the 2th innings. Is there a glove that will not soak up ?

Discussion: Hot weather bats and balls ?

1. Why do the balls seem mushy in hot weather ?
2. Do composite bats perform less in the same hot weather ?
We noticed today playing in 100 + heat that the balls did not carry and it seems everything we hit felt softer.
