| April 24, 2013 Donny C | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: The Stutter Step Once a pitch leaves the pitchers hand all one needs to do is watch it to see what it is doing. The ball comes in so slow I do not think curves, knuckle balls really work very well in slow pitch. They work great in fast pitch. I pitch and a good hitter is going to hit the ball, I can only try to make him hit my pitch which hopefully is not the one he wants to swing at. The pitcher does not have an edge the way the game is played now. Perhaps the new rule will help this year that enables a pitcher to throw from anywhere within the circle which is bigger this year. | April 22, 2013 Donny C | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: The Stutter Step I have used this (2-4 step) for many years; started it when they had unlimited arc. I found it easier to stand back in the box in case ball came deep if it came in shorter I could step up to it and make it a good pitch. I still use this and gives me the waist high pitch I like. One can go opposite field also with this by just stepping up in that direction. Works well for me. Donny C |
| March 22, 2013 Donny C | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What is 400 feet.... Webbie, 400 feet is one heck of a shot no matter how we look at it. Your pythagorean theorm, I will accept your word for that as I have absoulutly no knowledge of that, it explains why I am poor at math. I enjoy seeing someone hit a ball like that I have seen them since the late 60's. Yes, even with the old bats always some folks could just put a ball into orbit. The right combination of power, bat speed, coordination makes what Garocket calls the OOOOOOOOOH_AAAAAAAAAYYYYYY shots. I have seen too many of these shots unfortunately to many from the pitchers mound, but have to respect those shots. I love seeing men in our age group hit those shots just not off of me. My 5'5" frame has never allowed me to hit it that far but would love to just once hit perhaps with a gale force behind me. You guys that can do it keep on. 300 325 foot fields are plenty big enough normally do not see that many long shots in a game, no different than years ago with shorter fences and poor balls and by todays standards poor bats. It is spring and we have only gotten 19" of snow in last few days, I am jealous of you folks in warm climates. | Jan. 25, 2013 Donny C | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Rehab after biceps, shoulder and rotator cuff surgery Harry: 27 weeks before you start a throwing program, that is a long time and explains the severity of the injury. I have learned the hard way to follow advice from the therapist, I had to go through therapy twice the last time I had rotator cuff surgery and still cannot throw the ball like I could before the surgery. I will follow recommendations and hopefully this will lead me to a sucessful rehab. Thank you and keep with the program and we will see each other on the field. Donny C. |

You seemed to have the same thing I have and they found the bicep damage while doing the rotator cuff. One year off that coinsides with what I have been told and I was hoping it would be less. At our age one year is a lot but better than not playing after the year is up. I will continue with my shoulder therapy and see what happens with the biceps therapyin another month. Donny C |

I also had biceps surgery the same time 2 weeks ago and cannot start therapy on it for 6 weeks. Therapy started on the rotator and shoulder last week. Has anyone any info about biceps surgery and why it takes so long to heal. The Doc says I can play ball in June. Donny C |

I am still in MI and have been playing with a couple teams from Indianpolis, the Legends and the Fog. I wish I could get a team from the UP but you know how hard that is. Glad to hear you are still playing and still an excellent infielder as always, I would expect nothing less from you. No doubt still hitting for good average up the middle and with the ultra bats knocking them out. lol I hope to see you at a game my friend. | Nov. 30, 2012 Donny C | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Step across the aisleuit the game and go fishin' I agree the live bats will not go away. The pitcher needs to be able to get back in the game and be a factor; use the high arc and get rid of meat ball pitches that we now use. The arc we have now is most certainely made for the hitters, that coupled with the live bats makes it hard on the pitchers. Make the mound bigger which gives the pitcher more tools to use. I understand some pitchers are better than others, but this is still slow pitch, not that difficult to hit a slow moving ball average height 4'. Now a ball coming straingt down from 20 feet is much more difficult to hit. This gives a big edge to the pitcher(who has little now) in a couple of ways, more difficult to hit well, and gives the pitcher time to move back and protect himeself much better. It sure would cut down on a lot of HR even with the live bats. I love to pitch unlimited arc, but not to crazy about hitting it. Thuis is the biggerst reason we do not have high arc, few like to hit it. DonnyC |

| June 7, 2012 Donny C | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Any rules about location of safety screen? The screen works fine in our league as neck10 has stated, good explanation Rik. We went from a large screen to a much smaller screen and the smaller one works just fine and enables a pitcher to make a play on balls coming to either side. I recall playing in the 60's and 70's and the pitcher always had to be on his toes, even a wooden bat could produce an exceptionaly hard hit ball. I pitch and have no problem with lively bats even when the screen is not there. I do like the smaller screen our league uses as the larger screen made it too easy for a pitcher to stay behind it and not get into the defensive part of the game. Since we started with the smaller screen very few balls hit it, an out when it does. The larger screen many more balls hit it. As for better bats and equipment, we have always had technology making everything better bats included. Think about all the different kinds of wooden bats there were for example. Changes were made to make them better, recall the old three finger gloves, my first was that. No pocket on it forced you to use two hands. I now have a large glove. I get the best I can afford and senior bats are cheaper than ASA bats and work better for me. Donny C |

It used to be used by vets, vwery often to treat race horses thathad problems with inflamation in thier legs. June Jones along with many football players used this, it was said it smelled like garlic in the trainers rooms. There was a story about DMSO on the "Real People" tv show back I think in the late 70's. This show interviewed players from the AStlanta Falcons about there use of the product. It is sold as a cleaner in health stores, but you find it where muscel rub is found. I have always used in in liquid form, recently I purchased a roll on. It does itch like heck when put on. Long as it works with pain and inflamation I will continue to use it. Donny C. |
| March 27, 2012 Donny C | Topic: Bats Discussion: ultras This will be my third year on the black ultra II, I love the bat. I have no idea how many swings I have on the bat. Three years use is good for me, I am satisfied. I have had broken, dented bats in the past on a regular basis and they were ASA bats. It was said the cryogenic bats would not dent years ago, so I bought one it dented first game. I will get a maxload from what some of you stated here just to try it out. If I find I can hit the ball better with that I will use it. Donny C |

| March 27, 2012 Donny C | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: When is the last time you saw a pitcher have to leave a game from getting hit or get seriously hurt? Last fall I saw a pitcher get a hard line drive in the stomach which took him out of the game. I have seen other pitchers get taken out well before senior bats came out. Pitchers have always been in a difficult position as the middle is the best place to get a hit. The great majority of balls up the middle are over the pitchers head or off to either side. The best place to hit is where they ain't and that is normally up the middle. I often pitch and have been hit by balls coming off the rubber. Gary19, my glove protects me from balls and quick reactions also help and I wish they were quicker. I have no problem with senior bats at all as I have always would buy the best I could afford. I have said before one does not ask for the least competive bat, ball, or glove out there. I did two years ago, suffer a broken big toe with two fractures while playing third base when hit by a very hard line drive. It hurt like hell and really negatively effected my running but I will still play third if asked. Keep loving life as it will love you back, Donny C |

I was in the UP for a couple weeks and drove down here this past Monday through blizzard conditions. A long trip with near zero visability, and today 47 degrees. I love it. I am not sure if my team will be gong to the TOC in February or not; they will call me if they are going. Heck, I love to play ball and would love to go. Enjoy this good weather. Donny C |

I have a hip flexor injury which makes running impossible, sort of hobbel like the mummy dragging a leg behind. I always wondered why a team that wins a tournaument is automatically put into a higher division, ex. your team in which most of the guys will be now playing 65. It will come out in the wash eventually, lose games and get lowered. Playing the game is still great fun and I always said when you oplay a better team you get better. Donny C |

I used GI bill and ROTC to get an education and went back. US Army 1975-78, Armored Cav 1st LT. Served in many places, Fort Lost in the Woods, Fort Riely, Fort Belvoir, Fort Mead and a few TDY locations over seas. Did some National Guard time also. Donny C. |

You guys had a heck of a team for the 60 being that most of your players were 65. You will do extremely well in 65. I thank you for nice comments about my play. I am the shortest guy on the team but weight ways I am right up there, I need to lose some pounds. The Big Daddy team is filled with six footers and my 5'5" just sort of looks strange. We will be in Dalton angain, Louisville,Fort Meyers, Columbia, and an assortment of places in KY and TN. Hope to see you, have a great year. Donny C. |

I do live in Northern Michigan, just like to drive a lot. Hey JB Texas, you beat us twice in a row in Dalton GA in 2010 to take the championship. I was more than likly the shortest guy playing, 5"5".
