Discussion: Warning about too many pain medications

Great post Webbie, Another affect of pain medication is that you may cause more damage to the joint for which you are masking the pain. I'm glad you didn't suffer any of the possible events associated with over-medicating. Happy Thanksgiving to all, Mel

Discussion: Playing after knee replacement?

Webbie, Great news that you'll be able to have this done so soon! My Dr told me 2 days in the hospital......I think it depends on the patient (us) and I'm sure we'll be chomping at the bit to get home and begin rehab. Stay positive, Mel

Discussion: Playing after knee replacement?

Hi Webbie, A friend of mine had an osteotomy on one knee and had the other replaced. He says the replaced one is much better. If Steve is impressed with your long ball, you must hit pretty well. When could you get in for the replacement? My first opportunity is Feb. 18, and I took it and got on the list in case someone cancels before that. Best wishes, Mel

Discussion: Playing after knee replacement?

Webbie25, Most orthopaedic surgeons don't recommend playing after total replacement. Some say it's OK to play "low-impact" positions......they don't understand senior softball....and a few say you can do anything but jump off a roof. From all the information I've gathered, it's an individual thing. I intend to play. Add Zimmer knees to your comparison list, since they are highly recommended also. Best wishes in your surgery, don't forget to rehab, and I hope to see you back on the field. Mel

Thanks for all of the information. I'm anxious to get this done, start the rehab, and see where it takes me. I appreciate your input which has served as encouragement. Mel

Discussion: Playing after knee replacement?

Thanks B.K. My surgeon said playing would be all right, but recommended that I not play the outfield (my position) due to the pivoting and running. The Smith and Nephew seems to be a good option that might require a little more surgical work to "personalize" it. Regards, Mel

I've scheduled a knee replacement (Zimmer Next-Gen) and would like to hear from others who have played or tried to play after this procedure. Most orthopaedic surgeons don't recommend it, but it's hard to give up.

Harry, Good wishes for you and your recovery. While golfing and hitting are a plus, it would be nice if you can get back into the complete game. Regards to you and Terri, Mel

Discussion: A True Triple Crown

Harry, How's your health? Is your shoulder getting better? We were very short in Vegas, but everyone pitched (and hit) in and we were fortunate to double dip Hill Contracting from TX. We won each of these by double dipping the team that beat us in the winner's bracket final. All the best to you and Terri and I hope to see you in the future. Mel P.S. Please work on Jim...we need the outfielder and hitter in him. :>)

Discussion: A True Triple Crown

U.S.Jobs (65AA) won the ISA World in Columbus, IN, The SPA World in Dalton, GA, and The SSUSA World Masters in Las Vegas. In my biased opinion, that represents The True Triple Crown of Senior Softball.

Discussion: Tribute to Cappy

Cappy was a true ambassador of the game, either knowing everyone or getting to know them. I will miss his trademark fist-bump and "I see you workin'". All of those involved in Indiana softball loved him as much as he loved them, and will continue to enjoy fond memories.

It was terrific meeting new friends who can play a little ball as well. Hats off to all of the great people we had a chance to meet and compete against. Particular shout outs to The Kauai 65's and Sacramento Buds for being such great competitors and people. As they say in Hawaii, "A Hui Ho".........till we meet again. Mel

BW, We're a 65 team as well, but have no one who can hit it out regularly and only a couple who can hit it out at all. Good luck in Vegas and stay healthy. Mel

Discussion: 2013 SPA World Series

BW, I think the underlying issue was Dayton's hard feelings since they hadn't beaten either of our Indy teams in a while. Regardless, I appreciate your inquiries and understanding. For whom do you play, in what division, and are you going to Vegas? Mel

Discussion: 2013 SPA World Series

Thanks for changing threads and your answer, Bob. The alleged offense did happen in a different tourney, but it was SPA. Since our player immediately dropped off the other roster, we thought it would be a non-issue. However, when we played Dayton at Dalton, they were prepared to file a protest and Ridge told our player and manager that if it were upheld they would both be barred from SPA for a year. That is why I believe Ridge to be inconsistent. Regards, Mel

Discussion: Congratulations To 65 Scrap Iron Phiten at SPA Worlds

Mr. Wood, One of our players had played in The Circle City Classic with us (65AA) and later played with Brickyard (60AAA) in the same tournament. Brickyard defeated The Dayton Legends in the 60AAA, and apparently there were hard feelings on Dayton's part. Afterward, he was dropped from the Brickyard roster. He's played with us all year, even in league play, and it was a shame that he couldn't finish with us in Dalton. Regards, Mel
