I just wanted to add a special thanks to all of you who make this game so special in my life. I am so thankful God continues to let me play a small part. I have to again give a super thanks to Senior Softball terry, Fran, Dave and George for helping the children at Sunshine Acres Children's Home golf tournament. It means the world to me that you guys showed a real act of kindness. We had over 200 golfers and a nice supper with Auction. I am really hopeful any that are ever in area of Mesa will come by for a tour. Thanks again all for playing the game I look forward to seeing you in Jan at the PHX tournament. Keep hitting my friends. Gary Ingle

Discussion: Sunshine Acres Children's Home Golf Tournament

I would just like to add that I have heard some very kind comments from players etc about the golf tournament. It is nice that our softball community helps support needy children and programs. I am so thankful for Senior Softball for helping and also for letting me play ball at 61 years old. Winning the triple Crown with CJS and 50 Worlds in 2009 is one of the biggest moments of my life and I am grateful as a pitcher etc that I have been able to play these years without a major injury. Again I thank each of you for your kind words and actions. I will be putting out a note soon on blog to let teams know that I am looking for a team to play with this next year. God bless you all and hope to see you at Golf tournament. Gary Ingle

Discussion: Sunshine Acres Children's Home Golf Tournament

To Terry, Fran, Dave George I want to thank each of you again for your kindness in helping our kids at Sunshine Acres Children's Home for the golf tournament. The tournament will be held at LongBOW in Mesa on Fri. Nov. 21st with AM and 12:30 tee times. I understand AM is now full. I was just looking at Winter World information and loved seeing the add with tournament page for information on the golf tournament.I know you guys take a lot of heat but your kindness every year to the soon to be 90 children at Sunshine Acres is a real blessing. I encourage all in area at that time even if not golfing to come to LongBOW Fri night 6pm for Carraba's supper and Auction to benefit the kids. We have been blessed over the past 60 years to raise 2,000 children and CONTINUE to never turn a child away due to lack of funds. Support comes from faith and state and Gov't does not pay us to raise the children. Would be great to see some teams that play that week Mon-Wed stay couple more days and golf with us. Come take a tour given daily and see how God has blessed this special home. Home is at 3405 N. Higley Mesa. That is Higley and 202 freeway. Thanks again to your bunch terry. Would love to give tour to Fran and Dave and see new homes that have been built in past year. Good luck to all the teams and I will be back playing as soon as I can find a 60's team for next season. May your best be better and your better be BLESSED. Gary Ingle

Ken You have been such a blessing to me over the past 25 years on and off the field. Do not give up, keep looking for answers, Maybe another medical option. Check with insurance to see what can be looked into. God has plans for each of us, If I can be of any help let me know and I will check with other counselors I work with to see if they have any options. If he is not working State insurance Access could be helpful. Bless you and your family.GI

Discussion: Is there prejudice in softball?

I just finished watching 12 years a slave and it brought me much sadness to see how the African American people had to endure such mistreatment. Even after 150 years since this event occurred I see how some feel that fear of prejudice. I know people of all color have experienced prejudice and I really feel so sad for our culture here in America and the world that we show a mistrust of each other. I wish we could look past color and just accept each other as Human beings. This is what I teach the children at my two schools that all are equal and have the same rights. Maybe I am wishful thinking BUT I really believe this. It is with much sadness that I tell you of an event that occurred today while playing in AZ at the last chance tournament. I walked up to a player I have known for 11 years and have played with him on the same team my first year as a senior 50 player. I understand that this guy has had health issues the past year and I was really glad to see that he had returned to the playing field. I told him I wanted to give him a hug and he refused, I was surprised and asked him if he was kidding and he said know that he would not hug a white man. To be honest this blew me away. I said a quick prayer and headed to the plate.I hope he was not serious but he never came back and told me any different. It does not matter what culture he is and I have no desire to start a problem but again I was really hurt by this. To me I love playing softball because I have the chance to make new friends. God has blessed me so much in life and I really feel like I have no hate for any person in this world. Not liking someone because they are different than myself or others is really STUPID. I AM NOT A PERFECT GUY BUT AS A CHRISTIAN I DO TRY TO WATCH WHAT EXAMPLE I SHOW TO OTHERS. I SAID TRY BECAUSE SOMETIMES I FAIL ON THE FIELD VERY BAD. Thank you Senior softball for giving me the chance to play at 61 and make new friends. Life is so short and a illness can hit any of us at any moment and change our life. When this occurs our friends become even more of a blessing. Thanks and RESPECT TO ALL OF YOU. GI

Hey Webbie it was wonderful seeing you at Prescott. Glad you have recovered well. I missed you but not having to face you as a pitcher. HA Great time in Prescott, I thought it was run well and weather was a lot better than in PHX. I loved playing with 1-1 count, Games went so must faster. Really speeds the game up when guys do not watch the 1st pitch going by. Hope they change to this rule soon. Thanks Rick S. for the tournament and playing with Rocco's in 60's it was a fun weekend. Winning didn't hurt. . Maybe see you in PHX in Sept before Worlds.GI

Discussion: Is Pitching Mask mandatory

As a pitcher I am very comfortable with the mask and Helmet., I did see many pitchers this past weekend in PHX with facemasks that did not look safe to me if they were hit by a line drive. I tried to find a face mask and helmet that would protect me as much as possible from a 100 mile linedive to the head while at same time proper venting for our very hot summers in PHX. My students at school do not always agree with our school rules but I have to believe we are doing our best to protect them from this crazy world we live in today , Should have heard the parents hollar when we shut campus off and gates were closed during day. They did not seem to mind as much after people started coming into schools and shooting up students and teachers. I have to believe that terry and his people are trying to keep the game as safe as possible with all these new super hot bats. I still love the game and yes I wish they would start the 1-1 count and maybe higher ark to help us pitchers BUT I WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY THE GAME,FOR as long as the good Lord lets me continue on this earth. Had alot of fun playing my first 60's tournament this weekend. Bless each of you and see you on the field. Gary Ingle

Discussion: PHoenix Jan 11-12 tournament

I can tell you the weather could not have been any better with highs in 70's. I loved the 1-1 count with one to waste. I t was wonderful to play 7 innings without watching guys taking the 1st pitch down the middle. Sure wish that one could have been voted on again. Maybe next year. I enjoyed seing all again on the field and felt Rick Siefman and his umpire crew did a very good job keeping games going and staying consistant. Pitchers were wearing the mask but to be honest some of those masks look unsafe to me if a line drive hits and bends the mask apart. I much prefer a sronger mask and helmet that is well vented. I would wear even if not the rule. Just wonderful to be back on the field and winning always adds to the fun. Thanks again to all that keep us on the field. My first experience with 60's was a positive one. Hugs to all and Webbie, Cisco and others keep healing, we miss you. GI

Roger those are wonderful memorys. You did a great job at helping the community youth who had got into trouble.. Roger our reward comes when we see these young ones grow up and become successful. Some have some have not BUT EVERYONE of them knew we cared for them and wanted the best for their life. We planted a seed that's the best we can do. Roger hope I run into you again soon. Played softball with your younger Pal Ken Paddia in Tucson couple of weeks ago. He is still hitting the ball hard and continues also to work with kids. Remember the movie , It's a Wonderful Life, At the end in the book Clarence wrote, No one who has FRIENDS IS A FAILURE. Senior softball is helping us have new friendships. Thanks for note. GI

Hey Webbie I have a present for you. My first Helmet and mask that I used against you guys. You laughed at me when My helmet slipped over my eyes on a infield flyball I lost it and it dropped in for a single. I will even sign it for you.Might be worth something if I make it to Hall of LAME. HA. Big Ron D. so good to see you back on the field two weeks ago in Tucson. Last I have to thank Terry Fran, Dave and George, We may not always agree with you but I for one am so thankful to still be on the field at this age. Fran you have been my nurse on several line drives and I cannot say enough of your guys kindness to me to help with the kids at Sunshine Acres Childrens Home. Again bless you all and for the 12th Day of Christmas I would have to add 12 more seconds around basepaths because of extra 5 feet per bag, Ha, with me a may be a minute. Be safe out there, Hugs GI

Discussion: Merry Christmas to all- happy New year

I just wanted to wish you all well for this next year of playing softball together. Like my students at school I see that it is impossible to get everyone happy or on the same page. With that I will tell you something that should make all happy this year. With the new Rule about pitchers wearing masks etc. many of you will no longer have to feel the distraction of looking at this mug of mine that God has graced me with. This past year has been a positive one for many here on this site but we also should look back and remember those friends of ours who Have died and thru injury had to give up the game. I think that each of us are so blessed that as we reach an older age that we can continue to play a little BOYS game. I just wish I still had that little Boys speed and recovery time. I was trying to think of something funny to say for the 12 days of Christmas with all these topics that are up right now. I guess one could be for Webbie to have one new knee on the 1st day. I do hear that Cisco from AZ 60's team is doing better and may be out of hospital. I have always considered him and Kenney from Rouge to be the best leadoff hitters I have pitched to. I would close by saying remember to have fun this year and be thankful that we can be part of a special group that gets to play beyound our youth. Time is different for each of us. One of my 6th grade students recently told me that he would invite me to his graduation from High school in 6 years but there would be a good chance I would be dead by then. Kids gotta their spirit . Same goes to all of you who still are involved with the game. Bless each of you and please remember to keep your love of the game and each other. This world is not my home I am just passing through. Webbie, You could hit a home run off me in a chair I bet. I have enjoyed so much our back and forth over the years and look at it this way , you may still be faster than me. I am saving my speed for the 80's anyway my friend. We both have been very blessed and I look forward to seeing you in the future. Stay in touch and I will say a prayer for a good recovery. I am thankful for the time I have been able to spend on the field and time with you all over the years. Hey Webbie one of the kids at school asked me recently how do they cut my hair so neat to make it that you can see through it. Those kids gotta love them, It was a 1st grader. Have a safe Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas holiday. Hugs to all Gary Ingle
