Discussion: Vegas 50's Fields

Its about time other teams and people are to seeing the problem 50AAA is facing year after year after year in vegas spring and winter. Shadow Rock and hollywood need to be retired for the list of fields used by senior softball.

Thank you:

Hey Turtle man.. can't agree with you more OMAR...
Games like this shouldn't even be played IMO>. but if the directors have to get games in, the Rule works.. like I said, we had to play in two games at winter worlds and it was tough.. even with the new rule, some players still struck out. My team stopped going to BLD for TOC Northcal because the director put us on the sun field 3 years in a row.. I would rather spend time with the family than try and hit in that crap. We stopped playing in it last season... Nickname 36, I would challenge you to come up to my team and challenge their manhood... end of story!

I was in two of these games.... just a few thoughts.. I think it worked better than doing nothing at all, and I think if you wanted to be a little more effective you could make pitcher go to 8 feet from either side... part of the problem for the hitters in my games was trying to figure the angle... also, I would say that the batter should be able to request another side during his at bat if he found he couldn't see from his first choice... other than that it was a better option than not moving at all...

Discussion: Why so many shaved senior bats

It is not up to SSUSA, it's up to the players in the dugouts... I believe if you get caught the Manager of the team is suspended for 1 year... If I knew someone in my own dugout was swinging dirty, I would have to break his bat.. I know of players that swing/swung dirty and it is up to their own team to put a stop to it! That is the only way you would truly help put a stop to it...The one thing I remember when I was in the forties, is that we didn't have senior bats then and the shaved bats were out of control at that time... now with the senior bats, I felt that it did balance the game a bit against the shaved bats, as I thought everyone now has a hot bat... some now are a little hotter than others but if you truly hit the ball anywhere in the vicinity of the sweet spot, it will go with a regular senior bat..

Discussion: The 1 day Tourney Movement

Funny story, we have a guy when we first came to 50s that wanted all 1 dayers... he would run for everyone play outfield and never stop running... well by the second year in fifties he changed his mind about playing 5 games in one day.... LOL And as Dave said, nighttime vision is not the best for guys over 50... Happy Thanksgiving to all!

It's a catch! The outfielder did not throw his glove but had it knocked off by the fence inadvertently and still caught the ball without it hitting anything but his glove and his hands...

Discussion: Fields at Shadow Rock

Shawdow rock wasn't as bad as I thought it would be after reading post last week... We played 6 games there on three of the four fields... worst thing I had seen there was the first base bag wasn't set correctly... very loose and not all the way down. other than that the park wasn't that bad IMO.. the turf field were hard as a rock if you decided to dive in the OF it would a very hard landing...

Discussion: I have changed my mind......

I would wear one in the infield at any position, league or level or sanction... don't trust any hops... would even say it would lead to better form by infielders squaring up on the ball to field it in general. Glad it saved you!

Discussion: Looking scores 60 in Vegas

Just got back from Vegas, Had the treat to watch a 60 major plus game before my game and all I can say is WOW, it's truly amazing how well these guys can smash the ball at that age... If I'm that lucky I will keep playing..Truly appreciate what you older guys can do!

Discussion: Getting released from a team you don't want to play for any longer

I would have to agree with Grayhitter59... once you have notified the team, and SSUSA, you should be released. giving a Manager that much power over one player is not cool.. I could write a 100 scenarios that would prove this.

Like SSUSA says, why would a Manager keep a guy that doesn't want to be on their team (WE ALL KNOW IT WOUlD BE OUT OF SPITE). Well if that is how SSUSA feels, once both the Team Manager and SSUSA is notified, Get it done. Everyone has an email and that player could send joint email to Manager and SSUSA to make it legit..

Discussion: WESTERN NATIONALS

Tat22, like all of us, if you have great competition in your own backyard why bother to spend extra $$$$ to go elsewhere... we are blessed in CA that there are 39plus million to draw from to have great competition... So the Idea of traveling to play less teams than are in are own area is not appealing!
