Three more weeks until this tournament starts. Surely there are more than 3 teams entering a national tournament. Please post your team as coming if you are! Payment is due July 16th. Thanks!

Better get in this one while there is still time left. There are 5 teams in the 50's. A few more would make for a good weekend.

Hey you guys in the N. Carolina region need to respond to this. We really need this tournament to make so we can come back here in August to play in the nationals. Raleigh has a great 9 field complex and much to do at night.

Jawood is correct. 1976 was the year of unlimited arc. Absolute worst rule ever in softball.

Discussion: Cure for AAA after 3rd HR!

To address webbie25's comment on advantage. A true AAA team doesn't have so much power that they are going to hit 3 homers early in a game. The teams that come out hitting homers left and right and sometimes with nobody on base are the ones who should be playing major. Most true AAA teams are smart enough to save the homer for at least 2 on. Also, they are smart enough to save 1 for late in the game. They also usually only have certain players who hit homers. So the idea of having the 11th defensive player added after the 3rd HR will make teams think twice before hitting the 3rd one. And the teams that have a lot of power wouldn't want to play with this rule and should want to move up to major. Finally if the other team feels they are at a disadvantage they could go ahead and hit their 3 HR's and then they would have 11 on defense. This might be a good rule to experiment with sometime in pool play! Directors!

Possible cure for protecting the pitcher in AAA after the 3rd homer! As soon as the 3rd homer is hit the defensive team would be allowed to have their ah or any other position player to play the 6-4 hole giving them 11 defensive players. The defense would not have the option to put the additional defensive player in the outfield. He would have to play infield which would address the intent of the rule. Now, let's hear the pros and cons!

I ran a tournament years ago and went with this pitch count. 3 balls walk 3 strikes out. This gives equal weight to a ball and a strike. 3rd strike foul would be an out. This would speed the game up as well without affecting the hitter. Think about it...why should only 3 strikes be an out and yet it takes 4 balls to walk? Would be interested to hear your feedback. Also, concerning the mat. The only person the mat helps is the umpire. I'd like to see the mat done away with and play the game the way we've played it all our life. Question would come onto play what if it hits the plate? Ball or strike. This outta be some good fodder for you guys!

My opinion on retaining 4 3 count. I have continued playing several weekends a year with young guys who play 3 2 no foul. Trust me when I say it's awful! Guarantee you right of the gate your batting avg. will drop dramatically. You don't have the luxury of watching a few pitches and picking out a good one. The mindset has to be hit the first good pitch the pitcher throws or you are in the hole. If you take that first pitch and it's a strike you will be swinging at anything that resembles a strike for fear of going down looking. Smart pitchers are going to throw inside and attempt to get you to foul out. Look guys, we are seniors. We don't need to SPEED this game up. After all, think about how much we spend on a weekend of ball and now we want to make it harder on ourselves. Trust me when I say all this rule helps is umpires and directors. It does not benefit the players one bit. The young guys have already ruined the game we grew up playing. Let's not follow suite by adding this rule. My vote is a very demonstrative NO!!!

I too apologize for my ignorance on the brackets but a novice looking at this type bracket would have a hard time figuring it out. I may not know how to read a bracket but I do know humility when I'm wrong. Thanks to SSUSA for the fine job you do!
