Sadly, I've just found out that there will be no temporary fences at Hunter Park due to the difficulty with "punching out" the holes to secure a temporary fence in the Artificial Turf of the Baseball field.

Guess we'll just have to "grin and bear" it. Good Luck to all you outfielders!

JDub, 6 outfielders, plus a pitcher and catcher, leaves 3 infielders to play 4 positions. Enjoy our banter, stay healthy. I want you to experience playing when your 70!

Sure enough our first game is on the VERY LARGE baseball diamond at Hunter Park (#3)!!! Hopefully, they will be using the temporary 300ft fences.

Every 70 year old I've talked is concerned about this!

JDub, you are looking to play with a 55 team, so I am going to presume you have no idea how "relative" the term "slow" is to a seventy year old!

Also, a 6 man outfield would leave a 3 man infield.

I hope SSUSA is reading the post on the "baseball size" fields in Bullhead City. When drawing up the schedule for the 70's in Mesquite please take into consideration to NOT use the two Baseball diamonds. Last year we played two on the upper diamond at Pioneer and one at "large' field at Hunter.

It was ridiculous to watch 70 year old outfielders (I ain't one of them) chasing balls an extra 50-75 feet that were hit in the gaps. It is exhausting and "unhealthy" to expect 70 year old's to play in "baseball" sized diamonds without a 300ft temporary fence!

Discussion: Passing of Fred Purvis

Played with and against Fred for many years. Awesome Power! What everyone has said abot him as an individual is absolutely true! I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. It has been said many times about others but in Fred's case it couldn't be more accurate - " a great player, but an even better person". God Bless, you will be missed!

Discussion: 7 run rule

From what I heard two of the "best" 70 Major + teams in the nation failed to hit even ONE home run in Sacramento last week (each played 5 games)

I agree with the above post - Home Runs are very difficult to hit in the 70's and in fact if a study was made I don't think there would be one SSUSA tournament in which the allotted 7 was reached by a single team!

If I'm not mistaken one of the 70 Major Plus teams did do an analysis of their home runs and determined they had hit a TOTAL of 7 in over 300 ab's in SSUSA competition!

If the 70's went to a "one up rule" it would allow the combining of the Major and Major + teams into one division for a much "broader" competitive base.

I presume then, that this is the "Red Canadian Combat" referred to in the SSUSA response and therefore IS ILLEGAL for use in SSUSA events!

Yes, they are adamant that it has never been approved by SSUSA.

Thanks for the responses, but I would like one from SSUSA. The people who think this bat is "illegal" are SSUSA umpires. Thanks!

Is the Senior Red Combat 10inch barrel that was released several years ago (BPF 1.20) legal to use in Senior Softball?

I have heard that it was never approved by SSUSA. Is this true?

Can't play for your team, I live in Vegas but thanks for asking. Looking to hook up with any 70 AAA/Major/Major Plus team going to Bullhead City and or Phoenix from Southern Cal., Nevada or Arizona.

Discussion: Softball and hot weather!!

We use the very same Trump Rock MCT ball in our Tuesday/Thursday "scrimmages" that LVSSA used in their World tournament for years and that SSUSA/LVSSA used last year and will be using again this year in their LV World Tournament.

As I tried to illustrate in my previous post I do not believe this ball is any more "dangerous" than any other ball and believe no ball better performs consistently "in the heat" (we reached 118 degrees this summer and had a stretch of over a week of 110 degrees each day).

Relax and enjoy everyone, it's gonna be another GREAT tournament full of outstanding teams and competition!

Discussion: Softball and hot weather!!

We have used the ROCK for many years twice a week 52 weeks a year in our Senior "scrimmages" in Las Vegas. We have a mixture of all age groups and all levels from AA to Major Plus. Normally we have 30+ players on 2 separate diamonds participating. On an average of 4 at bats per player each Tuesday and Thursday that we play, that would translate into 480 at bats each week and 24,960 per year!

We have had maybe a half dozen minor injures caused by a "batted" ball using the ROCK in all the years we have been using it! I'm sure that ANY ball would have caused just as many or few (depending on whether your an optimist or a pessimist).

Once again (like the bats) lots of opinions and speculation, but no facts, documentation or studies to substantiate them!

Discussion: Famous Sports Bat Bag

Thanks for your efforts. I e-mailed 68Levi, hopefully it will result in a positive response. I find that a bag that can stand on it's own is very convenient and now I'm spoiled. Worth makes one but it does not perform as advertised and has no fence hooks! The only other one that I know of that stands on it's own is the DeMarini "Black Ops." bag but it is "cost" prohibitive ($200).
