Discussion: 80 TEAMS

JUST NOTICED THAT THERE IS ONLY 5 80 TEAMS ENTERED IN THE WINTER WORLDS AND THAT THERE IS NO 80 DIVISION IN ST. GEORGE. WHICH BEGS THE QUESTION (IMO) WHY WOULD THE 80 MANAGERS REJECT A PROPOSAL FOR ALLOWING MORE 78 AND 79 YEAR OLDS TO BE ADDED TO THIER ROSTER THAN THE CURRENT ALLOTMENT?

IN LAS VEGAS WE COULDN'T PUT TOGETER AN 80'S TEAM TOGETHER TO GO TO BULL HEAD WITHOUT ANY 78 0R 79 RESTRICTIONS AT ALL! IN FACT WITH THE CURRENT SSUSA RESTRICTIONS IT IS PROBABLE THAT WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FIELD AN 80 TEAM THIS SEASON!

I'M HOPING THE SSUSA WILL RECONSIDER AND CHANGE THE RESTRICTIONS TO ALLOW 5-6 78 YEARS OLD OR MAYBE 50% OF THE 80 ROSTER COULD BE 78 OR OLDER?

FOR OBVIOUS REASONS FILLING OUT A 80 ROSTER UNDER CURRENT GUIDELINES DOES AND WILL GREATLY RESTRICT THE FORMATION OF 80'S TEAMS.

In other words "thanks for nothing"! Fauci and the CDC are full of never ending contradictory information! Following them is like the "blind leading the blind"!

You are based in California, don't you realize what a disaster the lockdowns have caused!

How about those of us that have had both vaccine shots!

What's the purpose if we still have to wear masks and please don't quote Dr. Gloom and Doom Fauci!

Discussion: New Virus-Regulations

The "logistics" of complying with these guidelines will be a nightmare! What about Parking lots and entrances to the fields, Vendor contact or buying concessions! A team of 15 will have to separate by a total of 90 ft! All the sanitizing WILL add a "lot" of time to schedules!

I agree with OZ40, these "regulations" will greatly limit the "total experience" of a tournament, even celebrating a victory will be "sterile". Just won't be FUN anymore! I live in Vegas and our Governor in conjunction with the SSUSA will make the tournaments here anything but enjoyable! And before you say it, no I will not be participating for the 1st time in 25 years and not because I fear the Virus!

Discussion: Preparing for Hip Replacement

I've had both hips replaced. If your overweight lose some, get the VERY BEST orthopedic surgeon in your area, make sure they know you want to have an 'active lifestyle" afterward and I suggest you have a discussion on what material you want but most of all - DO THE REHAB!

Today Hip replacements are very successful and routine. You should be able to function "almost normally" in a short period of time (6-8 weeks). I returned to work in 4 weeks.

Good Luck!

Discussion: Ken Lipinski

Ken gave me my first real opportunity to play "big time" softball. He loved the game and supported it in anyway possible . He always treated me with respect and I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years with the Mavericks!

He should be remembered for all the good he did! RIP!

Discussion: Arthritic Feet

Anyone have Arthritis in their feet? X-Rays show that I do (some toes are "bone on bone") and I need help in finding a way to relieve the severe pain! My Podiatrist apparently developed an operation to "cut" the nerves leading to the pain, but I am very reluctant to do that!

I am trying creams, ointments, roll on pain killers and special socks with minimum results!

I am also taking acetaminophen's (can't take Ibuprofen in any form) and Hydrocodone (by prescription) but I'm concerned about hurting my kidneys and/or liver.

Is anyone using "pain management methods" that are helping!?

Thanks for any input!

Discussion: 11 on defense

For whatever reason the rule was established, it is no longer valid or necessary in any age group. If you watch the positioning of the 11th man they very rarely are in a position to "protect" the pitcher (who now wear protective gear that didn't exist when the rule was put into effect), the middle is still open. It is now used like the Major league defenses that "shift" from batter to batter.

As for "getting" more players into the game, that's nonsense. You can have numerous players as AH's and rotate players into the defense if you want them more involved in the field.

Time to eliminate this "antiquated rule! the 70's are not a special group of old people that need to be protected!

Discussion: Hip Replacemant Results

Had both replaced, one in DEC. 2006, one in Jan. 2008. Couldn't rehab properly due to a life threatening infection complication from the first (right) replacement. The second was great until now. I played every year since the replacements but I've never been the same, especially as it relates to power!

Having said that, when it's time to replace your hips you really have no choice and most everyone I know that did has had much better results than I have.

If I had to do it over I would (with a different Orthopedic Surgeon). Make sure you choose the very best OS in your area!

Discussion: WE NEED 70 MAJOR OUTFIELDER FOR AN ARIZONA TEAM

Does this person need to hit or just play good defense. Does he need to be able to move "laterally". Does he need to be able to run quickly to first base?

Based on your answers I have some one in mind who may be able to help you!

Sadly, I've just found out that there will be no temporary fences at Hunter Park due to the difficulty with "punching out" the holes to secure a temporary fence in the Artificial Turf of the Baseball field.

Guess we'll just have to "grin and bear" it. Good Luck to all you outfielders!

JDub, 6 outfielders, plus a pitcher and catcher, leaves 3 infielders to play 4 positions. Enjoy our banter, stay healthy. I want you to experience playing when your 70!

Sure enough our first game is on the VERY LARGE baseball diamond at Hunter Park (#3)!!! Hopefully, they will be using the temporary 300ft fences.

Every 70 year old I've talked is concerned about this!

JDub, you are looking to play with a 55 team, so I am going to presume you have no idea how "relative" the term "slow" is to a seventy year old!

Also, a 6 man outfield would leave a 3 man infield.

I hope SSUSA is reading the post on the "baseball size" fields in Bullhead City. When drawing up the schedule for the 70's in Mesquite please take into consideration to NOT use the two Baseball diamonds. Last year we played two on the upper diamond at Pioneer and one at "large' field at Hunter.

It was ridiculous to watch 70 year old outfielders (I ain't one of them) chasing balls an extra 50-75 feet that were hit in the gaps. It is exhausting and "unhealthy" to expect 70 year old's to play in "baseball" sized diamonds without a 300ft temporary fence!
