Thank you, Dave! Although at this point in my life (playing 80s), having an extra game does not have the appeal it did when I was playing in the 50+ age group!

Unless I’m reading the tentative bracket schedule incorrectly, it appears Maverick Construction is playing 2 seeding games on Tuesday and 2 on Wednesday prior to the DE portion of the tournament. That’s fine but I only see the 2 other Major Plus teams - Omen and Scrap Iron - playing a total of 3 seeding games. Am I missing something?

Discussion: Move Midwest Championship to St. Louis

As information, St. Louis easily exceeded the turnout in Rogers last year. The website showed 64 teams attended. Great site choice!

800 the answer would be Run Differential. Generally, if your run differential is >5, SSUSA is likely to move a team up if they finish second.

Discussion: Bobby Saenz

It is with a heavy heart that I am advising the Senior Softball community of the passing of Bobby Saenz of San Antonio.
Bobby has been a teammate for several years on the San Antonio Silver Streaks.
Bobby was a friend, a tremendous Softball player and a true ambassador of the game.
A humble man, Bobby let his bat do the talking. He will be missed greatly.
Pam and I send our condolences to Bobby's family.

Discussion: Ball or strike

B.J. I should have said "I have had, on many occasions, a pitch that DID NOT hit the inside or outside edge of the plate" called a strike. In such an occurrence, I do not expect the ball to deflect. If the ball does deflect, i.e., "nips the edge", I expect a strike call.
As to your suggestion on explaining the physics of catching a ball with a concave glove, I need to explain that one to myself! LOL!

Discussion: Ball or strike

It seems to me that if the ball actually hits the inside or the outside edge of the plate that it would deflect sideways. However, I have had, on many occasions, such a pitch called a strike on me. Even explaining the physics of the event to the ump makes no difference. Perhaps someone can explain the "error of my ways"!

Discussion: Equalizer clarification

We had this same controversy at the Aggieland Classic. Our team, San Antonio Silver Streaks, was protested by a 65 AAA team for using our native defensive alignment of 11 players. The tournament director had to call Sacramento for clarification even after being told the rule by several of us on the Silver Streaks.
Hopefully, this won’t happen again in Grapevine.

Discussion: Southwest Championships - Date Change

I noticed that the play dates for the SW Championships in Las Vegas next month have been changed for the 65 and older age groups to Friday, August 28 thru Sunday, August 30. I only saw this change on the tournament page - no ‘priority’ notification was seen on the Message Board home page.
Flights/hotels and cars have been reserved for the Original dates. I just wanted to make sure you guys have not been hacked!

Sorry to hear about Doak. I knew he was battling cancer. Enjoyed playing 1+ years with him with the San Antonio Silver Streaks. He will be missed. Condolences to his family.

‘‘Impact player” is a SPA category. Players classified as such can only play at the Major Plus and Major levels. Unless the rules have been changed, They cannot play at a lower level in ANY age group.

Discussion: Midwest Championships

Let me add that the grounds crew is to be congratulated on the work they did after last Wednesday's downpour to get the fields ready for play on Thursday (the last day of the 65 and older portion of the tournament). I was surprised and pleased at the condition of the infields.
We were able to finish without any problems. Thanks again!

John,
As missouridave said, the Rogers tournament is administered from Sacramento.
That said, of the four 70 Major teams who attended last year, the Minnesota Ancell team moved to Major Plus after winning Vegas and I think Boyd Metals 70 team has broken up.
If there are any other 70 Major teams planning on playing in Rogers, we would love to know.

Discussion: Houston Area

There are several leagues around Houston, none better than the Harris County Senior Softball League (HCSSL). There are also the Bay Area Senior Softball Association in Pasadena and Bayland and Baytown Area Senior Softball League.
Information can be found under the LEAGUE tab and select TEXAS.
Good luck!

Discussion: getting bat bag to tournaments

I use a duffel bag with a TSA friendly lock. My Combat upright roller bag fits nicely. Only negative is the duffel has no wheels! I don’t put the bat bag into the duffel until I get ready to check in.

Harry and Joe, it’s always good to see old friends at these events. I’m very surprised that neither of your teams did as well as I expected. Are y’all going to Vegas this year?
I’ll be with the San Antonio Silver Streaks playing Major this time. Hope to see you there.

marcster13, the ratings list still shows Timberworks 65 as Major Plus.
Doak, I am with you 100 percent! Never thought I would live long enough to see a rating created for just one team!
