Discussion: Bat doctors retirements?

Is it true or false about the bat standard changes mentioned by Walk? I have been unable to verify this rumor. Can anyone tell me where I might find the answer to whether the Snergy2 will or won't be legal after July 1, 2005?

don...we had originally planned on attending, but Stu was told by the director that there would be no comp for us, and that other teams wouldn't come if they knew we were in. It's too late now, but it would seem that we should have followed through with our plans. Live and learn I guess

Don...Thanks for the kudos bud, but even with our missing guys in the lineup, we'll definitely need our "A" game to stay with Old South. You guys flat out "hit the shit out of the ball." I hope you "do" play AAA. That way you'll be out of our hair. Unfortunately, if you keep throwing up the numbers that you did last weekend, the powers that be will be dictating a higher class for you. Oh yeah, don't forget that if you keep winning, the west coast sherrif will be starting up about your bats being too hot to be legal (LOL).

CONGRATS to Miken / Old South for going undefeated in the Gold Division in the 50+ age group to take the championship.

I believe that the term "REPEAT" is in order as well.

You guys have a super team. Too bad you let the cat out of the bag, with scores in the forties. we'll be lying in wait for you now.

Again, Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

To JAH#4 & Tater in Georgia,,,Don, I am wondering how things have gone for the McCraine's in the aftermath of their fire, Did the softball community have an impact on their financial resources to get back on their feet? Don't forget people, It's never too late to lend a hand to those who need it.

Discussion: Letter from ISSA Executivee Director

Recently, a senior player from Georgia sent us the following poen which he penned while attending the ISSA World Championships at Manassas in 2000:

They traveled many miles far & near
To play a game, to bat & cheer
A little mist & sometimes rain
An occasional pulled muscle to give a slight pain
Fifty & older tells the men‚s age
But the heart‚s a twenty as they turn back the page
To relive the moments of when they were young
Not as fast or lively, but strumming the same song
They swing the bat swiftly with strength & grace
And have competition etched in their face
They‚ll play real hard all the way to the end
Win or lose they‚ll leave as friends
When they return home physically spent
We had a great time at the Manassas Tournament
John W. Hayes, Faith Electric Team
August 19, 2000

John, also sent us an email earlier this week to inform us of the untimely death of Charlie Adcock. Charlie also played for the Faith Electric Team and will be missed by all who came to know him. Charlie was an exceptionally good ballplayer and was inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame several years ago. But to me he will always be etched in my memory, not for his playing abilities, but for that friendly smile that always greeted you when in his presence. I will always consider Charlie a friend, we only knew each other at the ball field and to me his spirit and attitude exemplified the true meaning of senior softball.

I just returned to my office from attending an old friends funeral and tomorrow one of the players on the Thomas Engineering Team will bury his father. For me it has become a time for prayer and reflection. A time to look at my priorities and be thankful for the joys of life.

We all have so much to be thankful for, and being involved in sport at our age is one of them. Senior softball means so much to so many players. It provides an opportunity for one to maintain and renew old friendships. But perhaps more important it offers us the opportunity to acquire new friends and share the company of others. It was this camaraderie that drew many of us to the sport.

In recent years we have witnessed some derisiveness which has manifested itself in name calling, personal attacks, organization bashing, cheating and other inappropriate activity all of which has been contrary to the principles guiding the growth and development of senior softball. Administrators in the sport may differ on their rules and policies, but I believe that each has the best interest of the game at the root of their decision making process.

It is my prayer for all that we return senior softball to its beginning philosophy. You can be competitive and remain friends. At this stage of our lives, friendships should be more important than trophies. When you ask who is playing in the next tournament, it should be born out of wanting to know which friendships you will get to renew and less about your chances for winning. Camaraderie is the one thing that senior softball provides that does not exist in some other sports. Together we can keep our sport special. As seniors our time is fleeting, the moments are passing from you and me. We should all try to make the most of our time together at the ball park.

I wish for each of you a great 2005 Senior Softball Season. See you at the ball park.

Discussion: When all is said and done...

Joe...well said...all of this other malarkey only serves to kill the enjoyment of playing. I, also, offer the same statement that you have so simply stated.

I forgive anyone who‚s offended me and ask the forgiveness of anyone I‚ve hurt.

As Buffalo33 says, "Life is too short" and "We're all brothers and sisters in God's eyes".

Good luck to all in 2005, and I'll see you on the field.

Don...Thanks. Maybe you could take it one step further, and ask Brad for permission to post the necessary information on this board so that everyone who might be inclined to help out, could be afforded the opportunity to do so. I'm sure that there are many ball players who would help if they knew how to go about it.

Discussion: Exemptions:

What you didn't have was the bat doctor's response to Mike Kelly's request.

It read as follows:
To whom it may concern I just called Mike Kelley from kelly sports to tell him that I did not want any part of his bribes to lie and tell the Thermco sponsors that I altered their players softball bats. I Daniel ****** at no time altered any softball equipment for any member of the Thermco team, further I was told from Mike Kelley that I had very generous offers and that I should have taken them but since I did not I will have to go down with the Thermco team. Mike Kelley also made it a point that he has many connections and was going to drag the thermco team through the mud. I asked Mike Kelley to stop trying to contact me by telephone and email because I did not want any part of this.
Thank You
Dan ******

William...How about coming out from behind your board name, and letting us know who you really are and what team you play for, sincve you want to be a bomb tosser.

Don & Donnie...This takes effect immediately (2005). We were not allowed in the meeting that this was decided, so I only know the result. Terry & Ridge have changed their policy to go along with the other organizations. All this took place at the summit.

Patty Melt... The player advisory board was excluded from the discussion meeting of the delegates. We were asked to leave the room, as it was a closed meeting.

I do know that all the rules regarding this issue remain the same as they were before the summit, at least for 2005
