Tim,

1) I agree that events are still happening all over the country
2) Not concerned about a virus that has a 98 % survival rate, which is more than a majority of cancers. The Delta variant, which is appearing to be less deadly, I believe will probably have a better survival rate.
3) As best as I can tell from the search I did on this web site, it looks like a decision to move the tournament to St. Georges occurred somewhere around August 20, 2020, or about a month before last year's tournament started
4) It's really called consideration and understanding your customer....

The players and fans attending the tournament have to make the arrangements themselves and the money (including loss of any deposits) comes out of their pockets. Your travel expenses are likely picked up by SSUSA...

Personally I think that SSUSA is forntuate to have on board, as you go beyond the limitations that are placed you on by others in order to keep us players informed as to the scores from the tournaments.....

All I am saying is remember who your customers are the issues they have to go through...

Regarding any change, like there was last year from Vegas to St. Georges, please remember that thousands of people are in the process of making flight arrangements, rental car arrangements, hotels and other accommodations to play... the benefit of a timely notice would clearly be beneficial to everyone...

Here are the Covid-19 total case for Washington County, which is where St. Georges is located
St. Georges is in Washington County, which is currently fifth in total cases...

5) Washington County
Total Cases = 20,522
Total Deaths =204

Las Vegas is in Clark County which has about 78% cases in the state...

Tim,

Thanks for getting this tournament organized and for getting the information out to the players and the managers, especially those players that needed to re-new their cards...

Glad to be getting back out there again and enjoying the game, my team mates and those on the teams on the other side of the diamond....

Enjoy the weekend, safe travels to all.....

It would be great if the Westminster tournament was made a TOC. There have already been numerous TOCs lost this year... Making it a TOC might bring in more teams for the tournament and it would be great gesture from SSUSA...

95% of the teams are known, giving the players and teams a "heads up" as to where they are playing so that they can get houses and hotels close to their field assignments, that's crazy thinking. It would be a lot like SSUSA having a mechanism to provide the scores and results like ISA does.....

and 3,2,1....

First, Congrats to Tim McElroy on the outstanding job he did in posting the information for others to see. Tim that was awesome and it’s a shame that others have put in you situation that you had to do that, especially when there are other viable and doable options.

I posted a message a few days, which SSUSA deleted. In that post, I criticized SSUSA for not having the scores and the brackets updated for the biggest tournament of the year. A business charges over $700 for an entry fee into their biggest tournament of the year and then act like children when someone criticizes them.

As I was following the board in Las Vegas, I wasn’t the only one who had issues with the scores and brackets not being updated. Sadly, someone has
dug their heels into the sand and are showing that it’s only going to be my way and the heck with the paying customers. This score and bracket updating has been a two year situation with SSUSA with scores and brackets, we have heard plenty of excuses from the organization, including taking pictures of the bracket and sending it to your friends..
About a year ago, we were told that things were in the works and that changes would becoming, clearly we were lied to. Hmmmm, if only SSUSA would listen to their customer base and stop with the excuse that no one is buying.

As our tournament ended, I stopped by and congratulated the SSUSA representatives who were there on a fine tournament BUT that
the fact that the scores and brackets weren’t being updated for their biggest tournament of the year was a disgrace…..

There is one thing being forgotten about the possible rain during the tournament. The county is very protective of the Bachman Park fields and they do not let the fields get torn up, so any consistent rain will make it very likely that the games won't get played..

**** With approximately $1.7 million in annual revenue, I think that they can take the hit for the expenses for a wasted weekend...

So let’s summarize the weekend with facts:

a) the extended forecast called for rain on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with some reports being up too 2 inches of rain throughout the weekend
b) On Friday, we made the field for game time at 9:30, four fields there, two of them were being worked on by the county department crew (the county crew did a tremendous job and made a great effort to get the two fields ready to play by putting bags, bags, bags, bags, bags of Diamond Tex? on the fields) they got two fields ready and those games started
c) Our field, I watched the crew put approximately 30 bags on the field and they got it ready to play. The pathways between first and second, second and third were soft…..the outfield had water everywhere….
d) we played two innings before it started raining again
e) the tournament director called us off the field in the fourth inning…
f) no games were played from on Friday from like 11:00 AM on
g) no games played on Saturday
h) SSUSA however, says they have a plan
i) everyone wastes their time and money at the hotel
j) then for Sunday, they want to probably go to single elim. I say single elimination because of the time
constraints but I haven't heard anything official yet.
k) SSUSA plan is for any teams that doesn't play three games, they are going to give you a $100 credit

From the very beginning of play starting on Thursday, this tournament was a complete and udder train wreck. SSUSA should have cancelled the tournament from the start but no they made the call from California. At least the tournament director did the right thing by calling the players off of the field on Friday. On Friday, with the field conditions and the forecast for the rest of the weekend, the tournament should have been cancelled. On Saturday, with no games played and the forecast, SSUSA should have cancelled the tournament but no, all the way from California, they had a plan to probably play a single elimination tournament on Sunday.

I personally spoke with about 25 players, some from Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, who felt that it was wrong for SSUSA not to cancel the tournament from the very beginning. SSUSA's complete dismissal of the facts, input from players and the forecast(s) tells me either that they are stupid or that they don’t care, perhaps both…SSUSA got their money but they lost a lot of respect from their customers this weekend..

I have been told that all games for today have been cancelled. My app shows that starting at 8:00 AM, there is an 80 % chance of rain.. So now one day is "lost", which means the most likely way to get everything in is to go to five innings games. Of course that will only work, if there isn't any more rain and my app show rain for today, Friday and Saturday...

It seems pretty simple to me

1) Check the weather forecast for today and the fields. If it is currently raining to make the fields unplayable, that's an issue.
2) Check the weather forecast for Thursday and the fields. If it is raining on Thursday, thereby making the fields unplayable, after two straight days of rain, that's an issue.

If after one or two days of rain and the extended weather forecast is calling for rain on Friday and Saturday(which it currently is), then there are a lot of issues and the tournament should be cancelled..

Unless you know a director personally, you are not getting any numbers. Call one of the local colleges to see if it's raining down there. For example;Potomac College Herndon or University of Phoenix Northern Virginia Campus or George Mason University to determine if they are playing any of their sporting event...

Paco12, unfortunately we will have to drive down, knowing that the extended forecast is calling for rain on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which is somewhat understandable, because things could actually change and the tournament could be completed, not likely thought. But don't drag the tournament out just to keep the entry fees and the hotel money. If it's raining on your play day and the forecast is calling for rain, do the right thing...
