Your Prayers are Needed
My granddaughter, Mena, is 9 years old. She was born with a rare kidney disease, and as a result, is waiting on a transplant. Her Father will be donating his left kidney, when the time comes.

Last thursday night, a huge rotweiler dashed out of his owner's door, ran straight to Mena, who was standing about 30 feet away and attacked her. He clamped down on her face, piercing her right cheek. There were many more lacerations, amounting to 80-100 stitches in here face.

Thankfully, several neighbors were close by and they beat and kicked the dog into submission, releasing her from his grip. An emergency room trip followed; scared parents and grandparents; a lot of blood, many tears.

More thankfully, 24 hours later, Mena was cleaned up, stitches in place, and she was beginning to act like her old self to a great degree--perhaps a bit subdued and obviously still shaken.

Reason for request: We meet with plastic surgeons tomorrow. Several surgeries are thought necessary right now. There is greater concern over how all this will affect her kidney situation.

We need nothing more than your prayers, but also nothing less!! Thanks, Steve

Many of us in the Southeast know about Mena and her kidney problem. I really hate to hear about the dog attack.

The Georgia Alabama Masters will be praying for your family.

Steve,

I don't believe I've ever had the pleasure of meeting you, but I'm sure the rest of my Team 1 Sports teammates will be including Mena in their prayers. We hope everything works out for Mena and the rest of the family.

Thank you all for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Your prayers have meant a great deal to me and family for the last few days.

The emergency room at Children's Hospital, Birmingham, was awesome in their response to Mena. We were advised that due to loss of tissue in her right cheek to expect multiple surgeries. We were also advised to keep her out of school the rest of the school year and out of direct sunlight for several months. We were asked to keep her on a liquid diet until further notice.

Below is the message I just sent to my teammates, the Strykers.

Thankfully, much better. We met with a plastic surgeon and after the examination, he seemed to be very pleased with the stitches, no infection, and stated that he did not expect further surgeries, unless something unexpected happens. He thinks there will be minimum scarring.

She is very swollen and bruised, as well as shaken for sure, but getting back to her old self.

Mena will go back to school in 2 weeks! She is eating soft foods and doing great. Praise the Lord and thanks so much.
