Championship Sunday
Is there’s a tournament format where ALL teams that make it to Sunday would be able to play their finishing games at the most desirable fields for that tourney?
I know like the Vegas worlds, there would be too many teams to do this… But Everyone likes playing at Field of Dreams would it be possible to have most divisions finish there on Sunday?…..IMO Reno would be a great tourney to try this Out! All Sunday teams for all divisions, could play their Championships games at Sparks, Wouldn’nt that save SSUSA on field expenses + other expenses?
everyone will all be at one park on championship Sunday

rightrj1 - The simple answer is probably not, but that's not as simple as it may appear ...

The scheduling goal is to have as many teams as field inventory permits playing on Championship Sunday (or Thursday in the case of the 65+ and older groups) ... That usually means taking six, or occasionally eight (see the Carson City schedule this year), teams to Sunday ... And the related criteria is to have "If" games scheduled not later than 3:30 PM so the teams can complete their travel home at a reasonable schedule for flights or drive times ... Accordingly, the Sunday schedule is comprised of six games, starting at 8:00 AM through the 3:30 PM "If's" ... Games after that time are usually not possible due to local league play in the evenings ...

The only other way to get (hopefully) everyone at a particular site would be to play another round or two of games on Saturday (or Wednesday) night to whittle down the remaining teams to no more than three in each division ... Then we could schedule the divisions with three games each (Third Place, Championship and "If") stacked with two divisions per field through the six available time slots ... However, that is inconsistent with trying to maximize the number of teams playing on Championship day ... Teams commit to the three day tournament and we strongly believe in scheduling accordingly ...

At Rock 'n Reno this year, your session had EVERY team playing at Golden Eagle two of the three days (except the 3-team 55-Major+, which played all three there) and playing one day at Rancho San Rafael ... Your day at Rancho San Rafael was Sunday, which means you probably had no complaint with playing Friday and Saturday at Golden Eagle while the other teams were cycling through Ranch San Rafael ... Lastly, we do not provide preferential treatment to teams based on their age and/or division of play ... The 55-AA teams pay the exact same entry fee as the 50-Major+ and should, and do, receive equal treatment ...

This "issue" only arises when there is a Golden Eagle or a BLD in the mix, facilities that are clearly a notch above almost anyplace else in the country ... We will continue to maximize the number of teams playing at those sites, but NOT by the detriment of forcing out as many teams as possible on Day #2 to make Championship Sunday (or Thursday) an exclusive affair ... Playing on Sunday is important in our view ...

Dave, I can see how you can't accomadate everyone's wishes to play at the best facilities all the time. However, I think when it comes to championship Sunday, the remaining teams should all be brought back to the best fields.. IMO, if possible.

Hey Dave,
Thank you so much for your answers……”My thinking on this, wasn’t from a better playing field site” I was looking at it from an expense side, as well bring all the Champions to one site for the Championship Sunday Celebration!
I think it’s worth a try!….I also think more teams would rather play more games on Saturday and or go home Saturday Night (if they must be eliminated’)verses Sunday Morning & then going back to the Hotel to check-out, etc etc… Okay let’s take Reno Sparks 5 fields, 50,’s 55’s & 60’s all playing this weekend. You could have moved all Sunday games there, (leagues games on Saturday’s should not IMO be agreed too in the contract for theses SSUSA out of town events) thus allowing longer play on Saturdays! You still bring back the top 3 teams in each division on Sunday & all winners can enjoy their day together & still make their travel commitments! Win Win….lol
Swing, see you at Cal cup!
