Aug. 22, 2013 softball4b Men's 70 1248 posts | SSHOF I just heard Rickie Perez has been selected to SSHOF. Great teammate and great competitor. Well deserved honor to a fine gentleman. I will never forget our year in Seattle. Lipinski was ready to kill us, because we were in the back seat of the van laughing our butts off because Ken was lost trying to get us to BP. I was pretty sure we were going to pull some bench time after the abuse we were giving him, thank goodness we were both having a good tourney. |
Aug. 22, 2013 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | Congrats to Rickie, well deserved. We also hear another true gentleman, Dave Barnes, has also been selected. Another great competitor, but better yet, a wonderful man. Way to go Dave.... |

Aug. 22, 2013 twins25 20 posts | Congrats to Rick Perez and David Barnes. I just wonder if one of the qualifications to be inducted into the HOF is you must be 60 years old and also have played 10 years of Senior Softball how did Rick get elected If rick retired just after he turned 55. or does he get in because he was a great player and current members really like him. Just curious if the eligibility rules apply to everyone or not. Just seems odd. JMO |

Aug. 31, 2013 SSUSA Staff 3483 posts | The National Senior Softball Hall of Fame is administered by SPA ... They have a website that has a lot of information on the process, including eligibility requirements ... The website is: www.sshof.org ... "Nomination Requirements" is a click through in the Links section of that page ... |
Aug. 31, 2013 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | twins25, you are correct on the qualification requirements by SPA. Here is what it says: "All nominees must be a minimum of 60 years old, have participated a minimum of 10 years in senior softball, and may begin earning nomination points at age 50." Maybe Rick is still playing with a different team, or older than you think. |

Sept. 1, 2013 softball4b Men's 70 1248 posts | Just heard Vern Fowler made the HOF. Great teammate and voracious competitor. Besides a great outfield/pitcher and all-around hitter, he can make some mean elk jerky. |
Sept. 2, 2013 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Congrats to Vern! Yes Mike, he is quite a competitor! Same for Rick! I met him some years ago and he is a great guy! Congrats Rick! |
Sept. 2, 2013 Webbie25 Men's 70 2413 posts | I have had the pleasure of playing on the same team with Vern this year and there is no tougher competitor in the country. The man plays hard until he literally drops. And he is a true mountain man-his stories of life in the back woods and mountains are incredible. An honor well deserved-congratulations, Vern! |
Sept. 2, 2013 Funk 66 posts | Congrats Vern...Great Player, Teammate, Person... Honors are well deserved...I really appreciate our Friendship. George Robinson. |
Sept. 6, 2013 StevenL.Imlay Men's 60 174 posts | I would like to extend my congratulations to the newest members of the SSHOF. Very impressive group and it’s exciting to see Rick Perez, David Barnes and Vern Fowler being inducted. Well deserved and overdue in the case of Rick and Dave. Vern was elected in his first go around which is very impressive as well. Three tough competitors who play the game the way it was meant to be played and even more important as outstanding as they are as players, they are even better individuals. |
Sept. 6, 2013 audieh Men's 60 249 posts | I would like to second your comments Steve. When we have played against Rick we could not get anything passed him at third. After he had made about 4 incredible plays against us in one game we decided to shoot every ball at him until he misplayed one! He never did and we lost the "round robin" game. Vern is a pain in the Keister! I have told my outfield on several occasions that I do not care if he burns you I DO NOT WANT HIM MAKING IT TO SECOND on a base hit! Pete Rose hasn't made it into the Baseball Hall of Fame, but we've got our Charlie Hustle in Vern. All three men, Rick, Vern and David are great players and men! Well deserved fellows! |
