Bill Allen
Bill was special for Indianapolis Softball and he will be missed. Those of us who played out of Indy and had the opportunity to play with/for Bill will always remember him as a big supporter of softball but even more of the players who played for him. I'm lucky to have had him as a friend. Nancy thinking of you and if I can help in any way call me.

Bill was instrumental in developing senior softball in Indianapolis. All around him benefitted from his never-ending crusade for softball, his team, and his players. We may may been foes on the field, but I was fortunate to count Bill as a friend. Condolences and prayers Nancy. We'll all miss him but have the opportunity to stay connected through you. Mel

Thank you all so much. He just wanted a new knee to keep up with me and the grandkids and maybe play ball again. He got it Tuesday and then this. It is just not supposed to happen this way, but at least we had him for as long as we did.

Bill's obituary is in the paper and online today (William) with guest book www.indystar.com. Online will stay out there. Midwest and Metro are both holding memorials if the snow ever completely melts. Midwest's should be in March, Metro's opening day of seniors. Will post details when final.

This used to be the time of year that he would take the team for spring training in Florida or Phoenix (thanks, Rick). It was always my favorite time of softball because we would meet up with local teams, and we just had a good time, no rosters, no line up cards, no stress over win in a t-shirt, usually no umpires (although I do have a funny story if we are having one of those parking lot talks). We just took swings and had fun. I sure wish we were there today.

Nancy, I tried to post a comment on the funeral home's site, but, since I'm not on facebook, couldn't. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you now more than usual. Mel

Mel, so glad to see you here. John C has been providing me updates. I am going to be talking with the funeral home because there are 2 links; so there are 2 separate sets of messages. I don't have FB (did set up one for Bill because someone suggested that he might want one to see his son's FB after he died) and was able to post without one on the guestbook link. I did not try from funeral home link. Take good care of yourself. I am sure you will be mobile when Bill's memorials occur.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and actions during this difficult time for me.

There will be 2 celebrations of life for Bill Allen next week in Indy.

April 10 4:45 Metro Sports Complex Diamond 1
April 11 5:30 Midwest Sports and Social Complex Diamond 3

In case of bad weather at either park, we will meet in their upstairs concession area.

At both celebrations, I want to encourage you to bring stories of Bill Allen that you would like share.

Dress is casual or softball attire. We want #12 Coachie to recognize us.

I want to thank everyone for making these events very meaningful which really helped me after this and the awful winter. I will cherish the stories told for the rest of my life. I want to give a special thank you to Lee Sullivan and Tim Fishburn for presiding over the respective events and also give a specials thanks to Butch Drake, Johnny Gannon, Denny Niendorf, and Jeff Case for all of your support to me and love of our buddy Bill Allen, Coachie. Terry, Fran, and Dave, thank you for helping me with remembering Bill for senior softball.

...but as Bill would say once the memorials were done, "Play ball".

I looking forward to seeing everyone at the Brickyard.

Nancy I may be back in Indy area visiting and will come out for the Brickyard and hopefully get an opportunity to see you and everyone. I'm very happy that the ceremony went well and sorry I wasn't able to attend.

Steve, you were right there with me and Butch. I hope to see you soon. I will never forget the care that you treated Bill with when his father passed while we were playing in Plano. He adored you, and I do too. Maybe we will get a chance to use that old Broadsider in Columbus or on one of Ralph's Saturday batting practices in Indy. Thanks for reminding me about it. You will always be our kid from Indiana.
