July 10, 2014 SSUSA Staff 3467 posts | OFFICIAL SOFTBALLS • SSUSA Rulebook §3.5 There have been some recent competition issues and inquiries about "Official" Softballs for SSUSA events ... At SSUSA administered events, we provide six (6) softballs for team use and have additional softballs available for purchase should a team desire to do so We offer the following information to clarify our official softball policy ... • Rulebook §3.5 (page 17) defines an Official Softball for SSUSA sanctioned tournaments ... • Rulebook §3.5 E. states "In all SSUSA sponsored qualifiers and tournaments, official game balls must have the official SSUSA stamp or be pre-approved by SSUSA headquarters, located in Sacramento, CA." • Except for the LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters and Southwest Championships held in Las Vegas (which use "The Rock" ball), the only softball that meets that pre-approved criteria is the Anaconda Trump "Stote" optic yellow softball with .44 cor and 375 compression ratings ... Additionally, any such softball must have the official logo of SSUSA, ISA (the Base Burglar logo), Florida Half-Century (FHC) or Texas Half-Century (THC) imprinted on the cover ... NOTE: Among the most often encountered non-compliant softballs are "The Rock" and "Micro-Cell" technology softballs ... • PENALTY - Teams discovered to be using non-compliant softballs shall be assessed a "forfeit" for that game if they are discovered to have introduced a softball for play that does not meet the specific criteria of Rulebook §3.5 E. (as clarified above) ... The use of non-compliant softballs is deemed to be the use of "illegal" equipment ... Please contact the Sacramento Home Office if you have any questions ... Thank you!
