A partial solution for altered bats
Don't kill me on this just something I heard that sounded good on the surface. I would forward that in general Easton Bats account for the bulk of alterations. If Easton won't participate in some new ideas for making their bats more difficult to tamper with why can't the local TD's just issue and edict saying Eastons won't be allowed to be used until they get problem solved. This certainly wouldn't impact the Senior game and I believe would go along way to stopping it at the adult level. I think the kids are altering bats not for HR's but to get the ball through the infield with more authority. Before anyone says this won't work I have played in a number of tournaments where all bats from a certain manufacturer wern't allowed and the show went on.

That is the dumbest thing I've heard.
Actually, in all seriousness, it makes sense on the surface.
My concerns would be that there are some guys that use the original Synergy when the rest of use Ultra 2s. Would they be 'grandfathered'? I would hope so.
Secondly, how would this fly from a legal perspective? We would be isolating Easton from other manufacturers... would this be an insurmountable issue? However, if someone did use an Easton when other folks are using U2s, it could give the TD reason to put him on the 'watch list'. If he's hitting bombs with it (CNT or Flex), perhaps the bat ought to be scrutinized (he = he or she).
Maybe the latter part is the direction to take rather than to disallow all Easton bats.
But this is more simply done when we can use U2s... (SPA, LVSSA, ISA, SSWC). How would we differentiate when U2s are not allowed?

Some cities or communities take it even further for one reason or another:
No double walls, no composits , no Mikens, and the games still go on.

THE WOOD: Did u like u're Kristy Cream Calander?

One of my "friends", is a WESTERN STATE DIRECTOR for ISA. My 'friend," believes & has some proof, that 70 % of the ILLEGAL BATS, that ISA, has confiscated, are EASTON. ISA, appears to be upset, that EASTON, will not try to stop this BAT DOCTORING.

IN FACT.... several TEAM EASTON teams, have gone to a tournament, w/ bats still in the wrapper. These TEAM EASTON BAT, got confiscated. All 10 to 12 bats.....

Bat Doc's, are going to places like AUTO ZONE; buy a cylinder honing tool. The EASTON End Cap, is drilled out.
Then, the honing tool is put to work. These Doc's, leave the last 1/2 " to 1" of the barrel alone. WHY? so, that the 'New' End Cap will fit tightly...

The Bat Doc's, then buy, a cheap Wal-Mart EASTON BAT; cut that 'New' bat with a hack saw; pop that End Cap out; then press the 'New End Cap, into the shaved bat.

Here is ISA's SOLUTION..... all bats & their End Caps, should have an "engraved" Serial Number in the End Cap & on the Bats taper.. If, the End Cap & numbers on the Taper, do not match.. that bat will not be allowed..
BOB, what do u think???? GOOD IDEAL???

Sorry Wood..... The STONEMAN........................OUT

Steve, as i mentioned in my email to you, I believe that you're on to something... as long as Easton becomes a willing participant. I cannot imagine anyone publicly denouncing it... but stranger things have happened.
Re: Krispy Kreme Kalendar... I'd seen it before but it never ceases to nauseate me. Thanks for that. :-)
Should seniors presume that the element of cheating that you described ( 10 of 12 bats confiscated) is as prevalent in our events? My gut feeling is that this isn't true due to a heightened state of integrity and we're allowed to use hotter bats than the younger guys.
I will say that i have seen many cheater bats in dealing with younger guys and they were many different types (mostly ASA version Eastons, Worths, Mizunos, Andersons, Freaks,Freak +s, etc.). They readily admit it and their standard rationalization is 'everyone else is doing it'. But this is old news on this board. The point is that I don't believe that its just Easton bats.

Being fairly new to senior softball (now 59 and have played for last 5 years), I find it amazing that men (and women) in their fifty's and sixty's are still trying to cheat the system by doctoring bats. THIS IS SLOOOOOOW PITCH SOFTBALL FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD! Makes me wonder what else these people cheat at. Just my 2 cents worth and I will probably catch flak but it seems to me that a whole lot of what we call ADULTS need to grow up!

Hey Lecak,
How'd you like what you saw
of the Winter Nationals?
I got one of those Eastons because
I saw guys hitting rockets with it.
After all these years,
I should have known better.
It's good but not THAT good.

We still are looking to find out
what the determination from Seattle
is/was regarding the 2 guys who were caught
using meaningfully illegal and altered equipment.
I emailed Fran just a few moments ago
reminding her, respectfully,
we're still waiting.

Einstein stayed away from Doc Romeo I had a team ready to go and couldn't get it off the ground, One of my best friends ended up with MAC II, left a bad taste so my frame of mind might not be the best or real objective. There were some really good players from the guys I had that weren't known who would have opened some eyes, that was the most disappointing part. Anyone needs some connections I got a cell phone full of players looking for teams. Keep spreading the word on the bats we just had a charity tournament for a North Las Vegas fireman who was hit in the face by a batted ball from a suspect bat , whether or not Seniors are cheating we should at least be on the front lines showing the way.

Sky Warrior - Who can really argue with your comment? You hit the nail on the head... why would seniors cheat? But some do.

Lecak: I like your point that 'seniors should lead the way'. I agree with this as long as we don't make drastic changes to the game in our effort to lead. Your opening idea on this thread is the best one that I've seen on this board. It asks the bat manufacturers to help discourage the cheating and gives the assns some clout if they do not.

Einstein: The 50 major/major + division had 7 teams... two 50 major +, four 50 majors and one 55 major +. Not bad for November... Mac II was clearly the hottest team... the infields were the best in LV but needed to be drug more often... some real nasty hops but no known injuries... the schedule made good sense... lot of close games.

SSWC: Thanks for posting your 2007 schedule so quickly. I would think that your efficiency in this area will help you maintain 'market share' in '07. Some of our players are all over me about providing them with solid dates for next year and for all of the right reasons. SSWC is the only assn that has taken this step at this time. Others have stated that they are but I've seen no results as yet. If I'm wrong on the latter point, please let me know where I might find this information.

Thanks, Bob Woodroof
