Rating Question
I'm currently a 50 Major Plus player this year. Next year I am eligible to play in 55 division. Do I still carry my Major Plus rating in the 55 division?

SSUSA Staff,

Is your "yes" response the only answer, or is it assuming that Dolfan anticipates playing both 50's and 55's next year? I was under the assumption that if Dolfan forgoes playing 50's to play 55's only, he could play Major and be classified as such.

It seems unfair that when moving to the next age group he has to carry the Major Plus tag, especially odd when his team the So Cal Vandals were one of those 50 Major teams bumped up without ever winning a major tourney.

Thanks,

Tony Baltazar

It was the only appropriate answer to the question as posed ... If there are other "complicating" factors he (or you as his Agent) would like to have considered, please call George at the Sacramento Office at (916) 326.5303.

@Tony..thanks, you bring up a good point. If I would only play in 55 next year, I should be rated Major and not count as a 55 Major Plus player...Tony, let me know you agent fee ...lol

@SSUSA Staff...Understand by your response ("complicating") factors ,this can be negotiated.

Not sure "negotiated" is the right word, but individual facts and circumstances can have an impact on any decision based on one individual and not a blanket interpretation for all ...

Would it be allowed that a 50 major team drop and play 55AAA? Entire team.

titanhd: Nope, but a 50-Major team, assuming all players are 55-age eligible, could play 55-Major Plus OR 40-Masters AAA (same team rating index for all three division is 8) ... softball4b: We don't have a 45 age division, but as mentioned, they could play 40-Masters AAA ...

I am looking around on this web-site and cannot find it BUT doesn't SSUSA have a chart that gives individual player ratings for all ages and divisions

I thought I saw a chart once where a 50 Major Plus Player has a rating of "9" or something like that and the chart was relatively easy to figure out-------where if you changed age or divisions you could not move down more than "1" player rating (or something like that) but could always "move up"

Is that chart available??? Is it on this site somewhere and I'm too dumb to find it???
I believe that chart would be helpful for ALL

I Sponsor a 50 Major team where majority of players are now 55, some still want to play 50 some don't.

Thanks

17Black - The Team Ratings Index (R/I) chart is available from the download link on the RULES page of this web site (from the above menu bar: TOURNAMENTS ► RULES) ... Note that SSUSA does not rate players ... We do, however, keep track of their team affiliation and participation at the rating history of the team(s) they play with ...

DolFan, I'm 57 and rated as a 50 Major + player, I wanted to play 55 majors but my 50+ rating supersedes the 55 major division. George very seldom changes this rating, so asking might be a waste of time! I think players should be rated my their age, not by past playing history. If you move up to the next age level your raking from the previous level should go down 1 level.

You're welcome! ... We revised the chart this morning to add the newly created 85+ age group, but it's otherwise unchanged from the previous version ...

Thanks again and LOL

If you would have told me at age 25 I would still be playing at age 55, I would have told you, you're out of your mind!!!!!!!!!!!

Well here I am !!!!

Now I look ahead another 30 years ahead (I hope both I & we, all make it) and can still play at 85

CONGRATS and Kudos to that group for still playing, travelling, & continuing to enjoy the game!!!!!!

WOW!!!!

So if I read the chart correctly, a 62 year old that played 55 major last year has to play 60 major plus this year if he wants to play his own age? Thats a little harsh. That means he could never play AAA, correct.

Went thru this myself…58 yrs young, playing 50 Majors…but can't be classified lower to play 55's…unless you hold out playing for a couple of years! Aloha, Fabe

Michigan,as a major player you can play AAA but the team can only have 3 major players, if they add the fourth they get bump up to majors. And a AAA team can not have any major+ players on roaster.

If you want to hear a funny one. A buddy of mine went to help out a 50's major team which was needing a coach he is 56 never played SSUSA got his card and he put himself in the seeding games. Now he is classified as a major player no matter where he goes.

Hey Swing,
I'm OLD! my skills have left me and I'm still being judged bye this rating system...LOL

All I did was coach the bases on this Team the won the SPA World last year and they make me 50 +.

I hurt all the time, just from the pain my body goes though alone while playing in SSUSA events, I should be allowed to play 55 majors.

SSUSA should have a exemption clause for pain tolerance levels and allow those players to play down, but only if their 55+.

We might be able to form a new division if approved! lol

Our 80s players told me that pain is God's way of reminding us that we are alive. So I think about that whenever something hurts. It is better than the alternative; so be glad.

Einstein is still "occupying" the SF softball leagues.

He's building such good teams that many of the top players are jumping over each other and bailing on their friends to get on his team.

He is pitching and shutting down the middle so well that even Swing has gone an record that we will not even try to hit it up the middle when Einstein is on the mound;-)

Swing reluctant to go middle on Einstein? That seems unlikely. Good to hear that Rinaldi is still active in softball. Always a joy to watch.

Ha, turtleman... I only hit Einstein once, in a league game about 4 years ago.. felt horrible and didn't even move from batters box... he laughed and picked the ball up and threw it to first.. I wrote him an email that night and said again how sorry I was.. We were using metal bats at the time with the 44-375 in SF.. He emailed me back and said he was fine and no problem.. he knew I hadn't hit for a while and he threw me an outside pitch with bases loaded and I was trying to go to right field with it(even though I'm a pull hitter), with the wind.. I thought to myself, man that was a shot he took.. surprised it didn't do more damage.. He told me a couple of years later that he had a knot on his leg for a year... We had a laugh about it.. none the less, at the moment he wouldn't let me know at all and played it off! Tough and Crazy old dude for sure!

To Staff, if I understand the ratings/index chart, if I am a 70 major player moving to the 75 division, I would carry a classification of 75 major plus. What happens if there are no 75 major plus teams or a 75 major team with an open slot available to me?
Do I just quit?

1billyd - When you matriculate to the next higher age group, you carry your current experience history rating with you ... Your 75+ classification will be 75-Major ... We would encourage you to continue to play the great game of Senior Softball ... Good luck!
