| June 10, 2015 iRITEi Men's 65 2 posts | Camping Info Wanted I see several of my fellow Senior Softball players with campers and RVs at tournaments. Hoping to purchase my first RV soon and am pretty interested in the Class A motor homes. This sure looks like a great way to travel, and not just to the tournaments! Being a newbie at this, I wanted to get opinions and advice on things concerning Class A’s: Is it better to have a diesel or gas motor? Naturally, look for things like a leaky roof, but what should a person watch out for that is not so obvious? What things do you like best about your motor home? What things drive you crazy and what things are most prone to breaking? Any information would surely be appreciated! |
| June 10, 2015 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | look for something under 35' for ease of use and gas mileage...class A.....also if your gonna have many people inside..get one with slide outs....make sure your clean water tank has some decent size...min 50 gallons for your cleaning up and cooking.....i drove one for years till gas got to high to deal with.....they all are basically the same per say...just do your inspections of them closely looking for roof leaks and such........ |

| June 15, 2015 DieselDan Men's 75 600 posts | I do not own an RV, but have rented Class C's a few times. My suggestions are based on conversations with RV owners and my observations. Diesel is usually better for power and durability. There are few areas that do not have hills/mountains. With a class A, at some point you will probably need to tow a vehicle. If you're a truck guy, also consider 5th wheeler's. As for the RV itself, consider how many might sleep in it over the years. Grand kids, teammates, etc. Some RV's have built in bunk beds. Self leveling is better. Storage inside and outside. Number of AC units, size of bathroom, main BR privacy, number of seats/couches, outside awnings, ceiling insulation (rain can be loud), back up camera, satellite capabilities, size of counters, propane, etc. Size of tanks and fuel, and easy of filling up and dumping should not be overlooked. Don't need to buy new, but at least something no older than 4/5 years. Hopefully others with years of experience will type something, but put your check list together before you start looking and find out where the best areas are to buy. Good luck. |
