BAT REPAIR
Has anyone tried repairing a crack bat barrel? I have a Dudley Lighting, love it, has well over 1000 swings on it but it cracked. The crack is fairly small, however there is no warranty and before I just give up on it, was wondering if it was worth trying to repair. Open to suggestions

not sure but a repaired bat might be considered altered. If an ump sees a crack or repair he will throw it out. Just put some gorilla glue in the crack and a couple of wraps of duct tape and use it for batting practice. That will help save excessive hits on your new one.

We would not normally determine a bat repair to be "altering" (unless the original defect was from altering), but here's a relevant Rulebook provision, which is a judgment call by the tournament officials, to keep in mind ...

§3.4(5)C.BAT INSPECTION
Umpires and SSUSA/SSWC Staff shall remove from competition for the entire tournament any bat that exhibits significant cracking or other deformity, whether or not arising solely from normal wear and tear.

Good advice Gary. I did the duct tape with one of our team bats and used it when the weather was too cold preseason or just to keep getting too many knocks on my good bats.

I had this guy that does fiberglass repair look into it & he said that cost to do it& to chg to repair a bat wouldn't be worth it. Also weather it would even hold up would be another factor !

Reading our SSUSA staff input and no other workable repair ideas it sure sounds like if you have a cracked bat your done. I do see cracked bat on e-bay for sale, don't know what use someone would have for them.

We use bat sleeves on ours. Had a Reebok with a split in the barrel and hit it for a couple of months with the sleeve on it. Also we use the on our BP bats to extend the life.

Good ideas Reaper, better than throwing them in the can.

I am willing to try some experimental repairs in my shop. I was a fiberglass and epoxy application professional in South Carolina for 13 years. Have been doing sailboard and surfboard repairs here locally.

If you want to ship a bat to me, I will attempt to repair it. Your choice.
