Rocky Mountain Championships
Just like to say that the Aurora sports park is a great venue to play softball! Only complaint was water, 100 degrees could have used some Iin the dugouts because we were not smart enough to bring some in!! Special bonus was playing the Scrap Iron Coyotes very great and classy fun guys to play against. Beautiful complex.m

I played in the Wester Nationals last weekend, and also the Rocky Mountain Championships this weekend. Absolutely no comparison. Denver is where the Western Nationals should be! Superior complexes. Great tourist destination. The Rocky Mountains! Plenty of things to do. Gas prices are reasonable. What's up with gas in California? SSUSA, time to make the change. Most players I talked with agreed.

Played Rocky Mountain This past weekend. Great complex and they are adding 8 more fields for a total of 20 all in one place. Western Nationals ???????????

Could not agree more Dave. Would rather have one good tournament in Denver that drew a large number of teams.

Dave,

You've got this right. I played at the Aurora Sports Complex the last time the Western Nationals were held there, maybe 3 to 4 years ago. Great complex with 12 fields set up in three quads. The entire tournament at one facility, great for watching other teams. Huge fields surrounding the softball complex where teams can hit prior to games. I was initially concerned about the elevation and how many of us sea level dwellers would fare, but all went great.

Perhaps SSUSA will reconsider this venue for future Western Nationals.

I've been told on good authority it's not going to happen.

I forgot to mention that the field maintenance was very good, they didn't wait for the last game of the day to redo the in fields. Great job by park staff

Since Terry H was at the Rocky Mountain Championships I asked him whether they would consider bringing the Western Nationals back to Aurora. He said they were under contract in Sacramento for next year but would then open it back up. Along with others, I worked for two or three years to get the Western Nationals in Aurora several years ago.

I had also heard it would never be in the Denver area again because Aurora wants too much for the fields but I've always said that players want two things: 1) A well run tournament and 2) great fields in one location to play the tournament. From comments made you only get one in Sacramento but get both at the Aurora Sports Park. That's got to be worth something to SSUSA. They need to listen to the players. Here's hoping it will be back in Aurora in a couple years.

I agree with the comments about water in the dugout. The temp Saturday reached 98 degrees and even though there are water fountains outside the fields it was difficult to get a good drink of cold water from those fountains. I know because I tried!!
