footwork when pitching
in a tourney today,i was told by the ump to quit walking around in my 6 ft. rectangle while delivering. i know in some sanctions you get one step in any direction. can i walk and take multiple steps all inside my rectangle while delivering?

A pivot foot must remain "planted" in the pitchers box while delivering a pitch. Can be either foot. Walking into pitch not allowed.

the foot doesn't have to be "in the box"....it only has to be touching any part of the outline of the box

You cannot walk up or run up and pitch. You must pause before you pitch.

BJ, the words "contact with" should have been inserted after "planted" in..... I was trying to answer the problem kingofmen had about walking in the box, by stating pivot foot has to be planted. Wasn't trying to define the box and how to use it. I assumed all pitchers would know they are legally in the box when touching any part of that box, basic knowledge, but some don't realize they must keep pivot foot planted..................
