Sept. 24, 2015 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | I was very fortunate to have a nice conversation with Brian about senior softball a few weeks ago when he was subbing on a Thursday night at Charney. I will cherish that conversation always. I have been talking with a lot of seniors here since the weekend. Besides all of the other emotions, there was something that was mentioned several times that I am really touched by. When this happened, one of the Brickyard teams was nearby and had people qualified to deal with a medical emergency. They rushed to him and did everything that they could to keep him. They did this until EMTs arrived. I just wanted to thank them for being there and helping him. This was NOT a SSUSA event, but I think it is a good example of why an AED defibrillator should be at any senior event, charged and ready to go, and why tournament personnel should be trained to use it. My prayers also go out to his teams, Circle City Playmakers, Nu-Tech Roofing, and Life Church. |
Sept. 24, 2015 Skibum Men's 60 11 posts | JP#44, Nancy, Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. In todays world of people running from trouble and responsibility is was overwhelming to see the effort from fellow players and wives that ran to the scene and did everything in their power to give Brian a chance! The family has been blown away by the support from the Senior softball community. Countless players at the showing last night and funeral today. For local guys there is a gathering tonight 9/24 at Metro 6:30 to 8. No games just a tribute / toast to Brian and a passing of the hat for the family. As for the AED, the goal for the Playmakers is to work with all associations to insure that they have one at all events no matter how big or small. Thanks to All Team CCP |
Sept. 25, 2015 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | I was at Charney last night, but I wish that I could have been with you all at Metro. Coachie's celebration of life was on diamond 1, and I left some of him there; so at least the Allens were represented. We have a wonderful softball family here in Indy. A friend of ours said that sometimes it is the family we make that gets us through. You are all part of mine. |
