Posting Big Tournament Scores in a Timely Manner
I would wager that all of us on this board know a number of teams and players participating in the Las Vegas two week extravaganza currently being played. In today's world of instant media updates, video uploads etc. there is no excuse for not updating tournament bracket scores on at least a nightly basis. From another thread:

grd8sbnut • 55-Major+, 55-Major and 60-Major+ are posted up to Sunday mid-afternoon ... Please keep in mind that our sole focus is on the tourney administration for the teams and players that are here ... That's the #1 priority, and will be for the next eight days ... Journalism is way farther down the totem pole! ... It's below tomorrow's Hall of Fame inductions (9) and completion of the 3rd Session brackets ... Thanks!

In the time it took this individual to post a message he could have actually put in the finals winners of the three brackets noted above. Somebody was able to put in almost all of the scores from seeding rounds up until the last few games for them. Why not finish the job? And does this imply that other age groups and classes are less important to whoever did the partial update?

If the staff at the event does not have the time, or as stated above considers it a low priority item, hire an intern for $20 an hour and get it done. This can be accomplished on-site or by easily communicating the scores to the home office or to anywhere in the country. Take a picture of the on-site filled in brackets with your phone and send it to the person who can then update on the site. Or just post a completed bracket picture for the rest of us. Done! Contrary to the poster above, this is not "journalism"; it is a simple communications issue that can be easily solved with minimal time and effort.

For any that live in a larger metro area, at this time of year there are likely over a hundred high school football games taking place simultaneously, obviously all at different locations, and mostly on Friday nights. And yet, even the local papers with limited staff have ALL of the scores in the paper the next morning, along with stories on key games. Apparently they do feel it is a priority for THEIR readers. Perhaps it even helps their circulation and on-line hits, better selling advertising that pays the bills. There may be a lesson in that!

Nice first post .. Quick hitters to get you up to speed as you jump in on this topic ...

• Top priority is on tournament administration for the teams in Las Vegas ... That will remain unchanged ...
• Scheduling/scoring software is my 10-year duration custom and proprietary creation (no commercially available options will do the job) ... ONE copy of it (on my laptop) ... Another on a backup disk ...
• Saturday, for example, was a "typical" World Masters day ... There were 10 Directors who had minimum 16-hour days on site at their facilities ... None of them complain about it, but additional workload to satisfy the curiosity of persons not here is most likely unreasonable to demand or expect ...
• Best interim information until the event ends will continue to be posts by those who were in those brackets ... Full detail scoring and brackets will be updated post-event ...

What this really comes down to is differentiating between when you WANT something (apparently right now, or sooner) as opposed to when you might NEED it ... The complexity and magnitude of this event, as measured against the personnel resources and time available for same dictates the timing of this lower priority item ...

Now, back to completing the Session #3 40-team and 68-team brackets ... Thanks for commenting!

Those two posted for 55's are at the same complex the others were at other locations.
While I agree about the tech out there, the time to gather info from all sources (TD's) won't happen in a day.
it's been tried and failed, twice. We (you) are actually lucky to get that much.
Best to contact your friends to get some info. Maybe they could run around gathering info fron various parks. But the players give faster input than the assn has time to do, but it gets done eventually, about 2-3 weeks down the road.

Same is true for the 60-Major+, a group that migrated to Big League Dreams for a Sunday finish, allowing me to update their division from the paperwork that "travels" with the teams ... Much of the work for the 55-Major+ and 55-Major was done late Saturday night where we concluded at BLD around 11:00 PM ...

Hey Dave once this month from H*ll is over you it may be worth your time to have a look at Gameonmobile.com This software was created by a couple of slo-pitch whiz kids and has been used successfully to do virtually live updates from multiple sites in Canada. Once the brackets are created the updates can be made from multiple places via smartphone. Might be worth a look for you...

For now, thanks for all the hard work to keep things running smooth on location for the teams that are playing as I must agree they need to be the number 1 concern.

Thanks B94 ... Just took a peek at the "Features" there ... Just see one rather formidable "glitch" for us ...

"..Have a large schedule? Now you can upload an Excel file with your Team Names, Dates, and Venues and have us do the work for you!.."

My schedule/scoring system is purely custom and, unfortunately, isn't hung on an Excel platform, nor does it export to that format ... That's an "off-season" project that's being considered ... Ughhh!

Understand the enormous task of running a event as large as this tourney but, could you simply list the winners and runners -up of each division?

Dave another option would be to get in touch with the GoM guys and see if they can adapt what they have to your current platform. They are pretty good at what they do and are real softball guys that like a challenge.

I can only imagine what a daunting task it is for you to schedule & update these large events hopefully something is available to ease the pain. Definitely an off season endeavor after some much deserved rest...

Cheers,
Brad
