Shadow Rock & Hollywood Field Conditions
What do these to parks look like this year, just as crappy as last year? If google earth is any indication then they look terrible. Did they trim hollywood park foul lines this year? Last year grass was growing 3 or 4 feet into foul territory from the foul lines.

Hey dave, if the 50'sAAA bring in the most teams why is it we get the worst and farthest away fields? You would think with the big number of teams and the amount money($$$) we bring in we would get the best field and the divisions with the least teams gets whats left. If you say it takes 10 fields to run the 50's then we should have BLD(6 fields) and lorenzi(4 fields) and plus there pretty close to each other.

55AAA played on both...infield was good, the the outfield grass was a challenge! Crew did their best to keep it playable, but I agree was pretty far to travel to play the amount of games we did! The heat was the worst! Hope it cools off for your games....Aloha, Fabe

You sure about BLD, nick? ... There's another thread running here complaining about the outfields there ... Hilarious!

Dave: You seem to have a knack for categorizing comments/observations as complaints. If you think any of the observations are incorrect, please add your comments. Instead of commenting on 2 threads, I would add that if the outfields at BLD have not received water due to lack of rain and/or watering, then that would seem to infer that the observations are valid.

Here is another observation. Be careful what you ask for if you want to play at BLD and play the outfield. It is quite tricky because each of the fields have different configurations so you have to play each field differently and understand how the ball will travel off the fences. We wasted a lot of energy running around the first year we played there because we were not familiar with those details. Once you gain that experience, you have a good understanding of how/where you should play. When you play on fairly standard fields all year with symmetrical set ups, it takes some adapting to.

nickname36, just finished playing this week at Shadow Rock. So far in 20 years of Senior Softball I have not played on fields so BAD!

Bad bounces on infield, the 2 grass outfields have bare dirt and then 4 to 5 inch high grass, the 2 fields with turf on the outfield allows an easy hit ball to roll all the way to the fence if between fielders and a ball hit 75 or so feet high will bounce over the outfielders head. Any org that puts players at this complex has only MONEY for its interest. They do not care for Seniors that have spent lots of their own money to play in a big tournament.
2 of the fields do not have any shade period. The only real shade is a small area around the bathrooms and food stand.
The temp was 102 according to local tv.

Teams should wait to send their money in each year to see where their age bracket will play, if it is Shadow Rock it is best to bypass this tournament.

Crusher, just curious how was the wind on the grass fields? The last 2 years that I played there the wind was a steady 25-35 mph directly in the hitters face. I happen to like the 2 turf fields at Shadow Rock. Agreed, the ball bounces high, but you just have to adjust to it.

4-5 inch high grass on the other fields is unacceptable.

Wind was not a factor. we were so happy when a breeze came up. It was completely hot.

The problem is I play 70+. You have to play close on most batters, so any little hit on the ground or a fly ball between the fielders went all the way to the fence seeming to pick up speed. If you are playing the younger ages you are back towards the fence so it is not so bad. When you run all out for 100 to 125 feet to the fence a few times in 102 degree it takes some out of you.

On the grass fields the ball stopped before it got to the outfielders most of the time.

The infields were pretty good, outfields needed work. Couldn't cut the grass to be even, come on this isn't difficult to do!! Biggest issue this year was lack of shade!! Again the dugouts could have all, not some some, covered, they knew there was going to be a tournament here, right??
