i use a ripit mask for best vision when fielding..(metal only for me)....when playing the infield...and add a coaches helmet when pitching..just put it on like a catcher would.....get a helmet with some good ventilation on the top......

I think for pitching you can't beat this mask http://www.anacondasports.com/Worth-Slowpitch-Softball-Pitchers-Helmet/dp/B009R9MPF8

TM44...i had one of those to start with and didn't like it as my vision was hampered...specially down at my feet.....it also was not conducive to warm weather wear......its the reason i wear a rip-it mask and coaches helmet when pitching...covers the head and face and i can still see pretty good...no blind spots like the worth mask..and ventilation is way better than the worth.....

mad dog...I've been wearing my Worth mask for two years so it doesn't seem to hamper by vision and I feel safe wearing it. I agree with you about it being hot in warm weather though. I love the rip-it mask also, I wear it when i'm playing an infield position.

mad dog, yes its good to wear a face mask, but you mentioned that your vision was "hampered...specially down at my feet" did someone tell you that or did you look in a mirror, I don't think you can see your feet looking down.... :)

What type of mask do y'all pitchers use when pitching in Tourneys? Also best place to buy protective mask?

Thanks

This past season I was pitching with a Worth mask and I took a ricochet of my glove that struck me just under the edge of my mask. Broke my jaw in two - to the point the doctor thought it was a car accident because As I found later and talked to other people that wear the Worth, the mask will ride up if you lift your head. So I moved this year to a Lacrosse mask as it is rated for a strike to the helmet and is more protective on the lower face. Now I am looking into a Cricket helmet as it is also rated for being struck but also extends the face protection away from the lower face and appears to have more visibility.

I have the Ripit and Worth masks in my bag, they both work really well and provide good visibility. The Worth mask comes with a built in helmet which I HIGHLY recommend as a veteran pitcher. It's adjustable so you can make it fit good to wear over your hat turned backwards. After the the last out you can take it off and you have your hat ready to roll. The Ripit works best for me at 3B on a choppy field or bad sun, more suited towards infielders. Either way, always protect the MoneyMaker!! (I heard that from a top college coach)
