| Feb. 19, 2016 kws 15 posts | 50-55 tournaments MICHIGAN I live in Pontiac, MI and I'm looking to play some tournaments this year. I haven't played senior ball before but think I would be a very good player. I normally play in the regular league but the coach moved to Lansing. I have weekends off and don't know if that would work for tournaments. I also have a lease vehicle and would need transportation to the tournaments so I'm hoping a team member lives close to me. | Feb. 24, 2016 kws 15 posts | joel, these are not needs that I have and only one thing was mentioned. I don't know where you got "all those needs" from. There are other things to do if I don't play ball. I just took up golfing last year just in case ball didn't work out this year. |

Senior softball is made up of teams in age group segments of 5 years. For example, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, etc. Of course, if you are fit enough and good enough, you can play with younger guys (a 57-year-old on a 50 team, for example). What you can't do is play with older guys if you're not old enough. So one need, it to know your exact age. Second, senior softball divides teams into skill categories: AA, AAA, Major, and Major Plus. This is a tough one for a manager who has never seen you play. Are your skills closer to AA or to Major Plus? Again, a need—what team would best fit your skills? Third, teams often have guys who commute hundreds of miles to play with them, but are there tournament teams in the Pontiac area that need to pick up more guys? This is not your need, but is there an opening? Fourth, you don't list your positions. Some teams are desperate for a pitcher; others need outfield help; any one would welcome an excellent shortstop. What are less needed are catcher or first base, unless you are a very good or very powerful hitter. What are your skill positions? What kind of hitter are you—high average or slugger? Fifth, do you have experience with senior bats? They are high performers and also expensive. Will this be a need for you to afford and obtain the right equipment? Last, you do need someone to ride with to tournaments. This is not unusual—lots of guys on a team carpool and ride together. But you actually have a need and can't take a turn driving. That is another need joel was referencing. |
| Feb. 25, 2016 kws 15 posts | Omar, I can play 50 or 55 as suggested in the title. I understand how the age group works. You made a point for me. If they haven't seen me play and I haven't seen seniors play it's hard to categorize myself. No matter what I say about myself they are still going to want a tryout. I didn't put a bunch of information down because I was hoping someone would see the words very good player and I would go from there with any responses. I can hit the 52-300 ASA ball over 300 feet with the ASA Juggy. As for speed, I can keep up with most of the young players on the team. Good glove and decent arm. It might be a good arm for the senior league. Once again nothing to compare it with. Outfield, pitcher, 2B, 1B and possibly other positions depending on the team. I buy a new bat every 2-3 years especially when they keep changing the rules. Just asking for a tryout with someone. |
